Since update to 2.20 I get this error message in Editor
silverhead replied to talonmm's topic in Helix
I think both of your suggestions are good, but the editor did give you an error message - the one in your original post. Granted it could have been more specific..... but the fact that the editor and the firmware had different model lists was the clue . 😉 -

To begin the update procedures: - Download the EDITOR package first (not the firmware). To get this, select HELIX in the middle (Software) field of the Downloads page; do not select Helix in the leftmost (Products) field. The following page lists the detailed installation instructions. READ THEM FIRST. As the instructions prescribe, before downloading and installing the editor, follow the pre-installation instructions to make proper backups. Avoid using the bundle backup - backup individual setlists. - Now use the Get Download link at the bottom of the instructions panel. During installation of the editor package, make sure you use the check marks to also install the driver and the Line 6 Updater program. If you are very experienced with the process and really know what you're doing you can choose to not install any of these. By default, install them all. - Connect the Helix device and run the Line 6 Updater program. Continue to follow all post-installation instructions, including restoring your backups. -
You just need to install the latest package - it is comprehensive and includes all features and fixes from earlier releases. The instructions describe the correct installation sequence and ensure that you will have compatible versions of everything. To begin: - Download the EDITOR package first (not the firmware). That's never happened to my Rack/Control pair either. One possible explanation, pure speculation on my part, is that an internal ribbon connector may be loose. I don't know that this is the design of the Control module, but Line 6 often uses ribbon connectors in their products to join major internal components. It's conceivable that the ribbon connector for the display in your Control unit is loose or not seated properly. Perhaps some minor movement or relocatoin of the Control unit first unseated and then later reseated the ribbon connector. I know - I'm grasping. But If this happens again that's the first thing I would check.

I agree with PeterHamm. Double check this. Note that the main editor window displays the version of the firmware installed in the connected Helix. To determine the editor version in you need to use the Help..... About Helix menu in the editor. -
I agree. I can understand the initial desire to keep all the old tones that one has worked so hard on over years. But when you upgrade to a newer generation device that is capable of producing much better tones it seems to me that you are doing a disservice to yourself if your goal is to reproduce the old inferior tones.

I don't recall seeing that here. I have seen many posts in languages other than English. Sometimes they are answered in the same language, sometimes answered in English, and sometimes translated to and then answered in English. Unfortunately sometimes they are not answered at all if the original language is unfamiliar to the vast majority of users here. I think people in general find it easier to understand a written response in a foreign language (often an online translator is available) than to write their question in the foreign language. So I would encourage you to post in German and then translate the English response if it doesn't come back to you in German. I know this doesn't address your real desire to have multiple versions of this forum in many global languages, with the English forum somehow translated and mirrored in each of those languages, but that's just not going to happen. And that's true of the Internet in general, not just this Line 6 forum.

I'm not exactly clear on the terminology being used here. In your question and the reply I see the terms saddle, nut, and bridge all being used. Of course all are relevant but they are different pieces of the guitar. Your question asks about sanding the saddle so it's important to understand that the piezos live in the saddle. You certainly don't want to sand them down. I don't know about the construction of the nylon Variax but presumably you can remove the saddles/pickups and sand the bridge down, then replace the saddles.

It may depend on how, or whether, the physical Helix FX Loops are implemented in Helix Native. The question becomes, what happens when you import a Helix preset with FX Loop(s) into Helix Native? Are they simply ignored or will Helix Native implement a way to place other VSTs in the loop? Will be interesting to see.

Interesting question and I don't know the answer but here is how I would proceed. First I would take notes on the preset in case you have to rebuild it. Then I would try using the 2.2 editor with the 2.11 firmware. You never know - it just might allow you to back up the patch successfully, and I don't think it can do any damage other than freezing either the device or the editor. Both should recover with a restart. If that doesn't work I would upgrade the Helix to v2.20 but I would defer the global reset. After upgrading and before resetting you will still have the v2.11 presets in the device now running the v2.20 firmware. It's the reset that overwrites the presets. In the interim you could try firing up the 2.20 editor and see what happens. If neither of those things work then I think you'll have to manually rebuild it from your notes.

I think it depends on the tablet. There was some discussion about this some time ago in the context of the POD HD500 iirc. Most tablets run a stripped down version of a PC OS and the editor does not work on those. Some, however, seem able to run the full PC versoin of the OS, say a full and complete Windows 10. If a tablet can do that it should be able to run the editor, assuming it also has a USB port.

Try using no guitar amp. Use the Vintage Preamp - It is in the Preamp+EQ section of the FX. Here's a snip from the manual: This Model is a vintage-voiced, mono tube mic preamp based on* the Requisite® Y7 vintage Tube Mic Preamp, excellent for use with your Mic source input, Variax acoustic guitar models, or even in conjunction with Bass or Guitar Amps, anywhere in the signal path, to provide some nice tube warmth.

Workbench off line use?
silverhead replied to Mrkgtr49's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Make sure you are using Workbench HD, not the original version of Workbench. I am able to open and operate Workbench HD offline, without any interface device connected. I am on Windows 10. -
I am 65 and purely a hobby guitarist / soundguy. I have used Line 6 products for about 8 years now and am still amazed by the breadth and flexibility of the tones you can get with the multi-fx units (started with X3 Live) and Variax guitars (started with V300). I also love helping local start-up bands get their stage show together with my M20d and Stagesource speakers. My Helix Rack/Control and JTV-59 get played almost daily and 'the band' (me and a buddy or two) still gets together regularly in my basement studio. Kids are grown and gone, wife is very supportive, and much fun is had by all. If you haven't done so already a good preparation for Monday would be to download and peruse the Helix manuals and 'cheat sheet'. http://line6.com/support/manuals/helix

No. You need to manually recreate them on the HD500X. But the underlying modeling is different so even if you can match the XT amps/FX exactly on the HD500X it will sound different. The good news is that you can run the HD500X Edit program without the HD device connected. So if you still have your XT you can run its editor to view the presets and then manually recreate them in the HD500X Edit window. Then save the HD500X presets to your computer, disconnect the XT and connect the HD500X device, load the saved presets back into the editor, and then SEND them to the HD500X device. However, you should consider this a starting point for tweaking the presets on the HD500X.

Soundstag L3T Delivery today
silverhead replied to rjmorris77's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
There's no difference in the 2017 L3t from the 2013 L3t. But I can't say that this particular speaker is as good as new because clearly the box was opened so it's history is unknown. But unless you encounter or can demonstrate a problem with it you might not need or be able to return it. -
When you connect the AMPLIFi device via USB it becomes your soundcard. You need to connect your speakers/monitors to the AMPLIFi outputs. Your computer speakers will no longer receive the audio from your computer.

Here's preset designed for recording a wet and dry signal simultaneously into two separate tracks. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/2784034/

As of firmware v2.20 Helix acts as a Workbench interface. With your guitar connected via VDI you should be able to run Workbench without using the separate Workbench interface hardware or regular guitar cable.
-
What's your output device? Are you routing the Helix output to a guitar amp or an FRFR/PA system? Glenn's patches are designed for the latter. If you are using a guitar amp you will need to do some tweaking.

The detailed instructions can be found in the Release Notes for the Helix editor software. Go to the Downloads section of this website (see tab at top of this page). Select Helix in the middle Software field, not in the leftmost Products field. That will bring you to the editor page where you will find the instructions. The first step (after making backups which does to apply to you right now) is to download and install the editor package, including the latest versions of the driver and Line6 Updater program. You will find the Get Download button at the bottom of the instructions page. Follow all instructions carefully.

Please describe what you are trying to do and the behaviour you are seeing.

Line 6 has said that they are working on a new and more automated firmware update process. I expect that will include a save/restore of the global settings but am not certain about that.

need to restore V600 to factory presets
silverhead replied to grumol's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
Yes the VDI should power the JTV. And as long as the sound carries over VDI to the Pod XT that should be fine. But don't use the VDI and regular guitar cable a the the same time. -
Using the Helix live - mixing presets with stomp mode
silverhead replied to lespaul0338's topic in Helix
Going one step at a time, here's a progression to consider...... Start with a single amp/cab combination per preset. Use Global Settings to set your display to 8 Stomps. This will allow you to control the on/off state of up to 8 FX blocks assigned to footswitches. You will be able to use the up/down footswitches to switch the presets, and within each preset you turn your virtual pedals on and off just like you would on your 'real' pedalboard. With certain presets you may find yourself wanting to change the state of multiple FX blocks at the same time. For instance you might want to turn on/off the Chorus and Delay blocks as a pair. Now it's time to learn about assinging multiple FX to the same footswitch. Soon you might find that you typically progress through a song with certain groups of FX being turned on and off at specific points in a song. You might have one group of FX for the Intro of a song, another for the verses, and yet another for your blistering solo. You might also wish you could change some of the settings of these individual FX while still playing!! Imagine no bending down to your pedal board to change the depth of your Chorus, or the number of repeats on your Delay, for your solo. Now it's time to learn about Snapshots, and to change your display to Stomps/Snaps so that you can have access to 4 FX on/off switches and 4 Snapshot switches simultaneously. Eventually you will end up with a few very versatile presets that will make it very easily to turn individual, or combinations of, FX blocks on/off and changing selected parameter values with a single footswitch. It actually won't take you very long to reach this stage once you get used to how things work.
