  1. I make a habit of saving the factory presets in each new firmware release immediately after installing the new firmware, for exactly the reason you describe. If you PM me your email address, and are or want to become a Dropbox user, I will put them there and invite you to access them.
  2. I don't think there's any problem with the display malfunctioning as it warms up. I think it's purely an effect of the sunlight / daylight. Any LCD display is very hard to read in sunlight. Your towel might help but I believe the problem is light, not a heat related malfunction. I think the best you can do in future is try to jury-rig some sort of visor that provides more light shielding than a towel.
  3. 1. I replaced my JTV-59 jumbo frets with medium size frets. No problem after proper setup. 2. No problem using 11s, again with proper setup adjustments. 3. Just follow the documented procedures carefully. 4. Spare VDI or battery, whichever you plan to use most. Note that the cable that comes with the Variax is not a VDI cable. You should get a VDI cable with shielding at both ends for live play. 5. Have fun!
  4. You could just use the L/MONO 1/4" output from the Pod to your amp. This sums the signal to mono. Leave the preset settings as they are unless you want to achieve something other than a full, but mono, signal to your amp input.
  5. .... moved to POD HD forum .......
  6. My first suspicion is the global settings. Part of the firmware update process is a global reset which may have set something back to its default value, which you had previously changed. You now may need to set it back to what it was before the update.
  7. It's there..... here you go.... http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/pod/pod-hd/video-tutorialpod-hd-series-flash-memory-upda-r209
  8. Check the product FAQs. See Support tab above, then choose Technical Support. Then select the Pod HD product family.
  9. Set the helix XLR Outputs to mic level. Start with the M20d trim at its lowest level and increase manually if necessary. Also it's important to balance your presets on helix to avoid having to adjust the M20d trim constantly.
  10. Try setting the helix XLR to Mic level. That's what the M20d XLR inputs are expecting. And start with the M20d trim at its lowest setting.
  11. Your xt Pro is an audio interface when connected to your computer via USB. With that setup you connect your speakers to the xt Pro outputs. You don't need your other interface. If for some reason you want to use your other interface connect the xt Pro audio outputs to your other interface inputs.
  12. Yes. With the FX assigned to the pedal (e.g. VOL) selected, press and holds the Position controller. The following screen allows you to assign Min/Max values for the heel/toe positions.
  13. I don't. I happen to be sitting at my Helix right now and have just tested it with various presets, from clean to hi-gain. In particular, I thought I might hear it with factor preset 2D German Ubersonic, but no. Does it happen with all presets or just some? Does it go away if you put a noise gate at the beginning of the path?
  14. The manual is your friend. See page 42 for details. It's in GLobal Settings -> Ins/Outs -> pg 3.
  15. You also need a VDI cable to connect your Variax to your POD. With the Variax connect d to the HD500 and the HD500 connected to your computer via USB, run Line 6 Monkey. That should tell you if your Variax needs updating, and will help you do the update. Note that Workbench HD will not work with the Variax bass. You need the original Workbench program. Again, Monkey will help you install it.
  16. Depends on the individual. Sound is very subjective. Some claim to 'hear' an improvement, and are content with that. For them there's no incentive or need to provide empirical evidence to back up their feeling. Others want objective evidence designed to somehow 'prove' an improvement. So, given the subjective nature of it all, the bottom line is that anyone who wants to believe there is an improvement can do so. And anyone who wants to believe there is no improvement can find fault with any supposed evidence to the contrary and maintain their belief. It's all quite meaningless imho. Does God exist? (Yes, I went there. Heaven help me!) 😇
  17. The short technical answer is that the M20d has no L6 LINK IN connection. Why? Because it's a mixer. You'd have to assign the L6 LINK IN jack to a specific channel for signal processing. Without a hardware change Line 6 would need to update the firmware to use a pair of the existing digital inputs (channels 17-20) temporarily disabling them for their current use and reallocating them, or add an L6 LINK digital processing capabillity to the combo input of each (currently analog) input channel 1-16. Neither makes much sense to me.
  18. Yes, the Standard model includes the Workbench HD hardware interface device. (I live about 2 hrs north of Kingston)
  19. The HD500X should have come with a USB cable; that's all that's necessary to do what he wants. If it is a used device and did not come with the cable no problem - it uses a standard USB printer cable. He will also need to download and install the HD500X Edit program from this website (see Downloads button at top of this page). Also at the top of this page is a link to the Customtone site where many HD500X compatible tones/presets can be found. Download presets from Customtone to the computer, load them into the Edit program (a simple drag/drop operation), and use the Editor's SEND feature to save them to the POD device.
  20. Yes you will need to purchase the original Workbench product (not Workbench HD) including the hardware interface. The early Variax models, including the V600, did not come bundled with a license for the Workbench software, nor did the Variax purchase include the Workbench hardware interface. Workbench was, and remains, a separate purchase. Note that all you actually need is the hardware interface device; anyone can download the software for free. You may find a used device on eBay or some other online source. The Line 6 online store carries it at full price. Beginning with the JTV Variax things changed. A Workbench license, along with the hardware interface, was included with the JTV purchase. EDIT: I should also mention that older Line 6 POD devices that support Variax guitars like the XT, X3, and HD500/Pro (not the 500X/ProX) will also work as a Workbench hardware interface device. If you have one of those you are already good to go with Workbench.
  21. I frequently bring my M20d to a venue and run it through the house PA and speakers. The band connects to the M20d at the side of the stage and I run the Main Outs into a pair of channels on the house stage snake panel which goes to a stereo input pair on the house board which then delivers the sound through their speakers. I prefer to connect the stage monitors to the M20d as well but sometimes that is not practical due to local cabling. I use the iPad app to run things from the audience.
  22. Well, the release notes say this: - Additions to and improvements made to the existing factory preset bundle So how widespread are the improvements? I don't know. Perhaps it's not ridiculous to think that the factory presets sound better overall. But you're right that anyone who wants to prove the point might want to provide some evidence.
  23. Actually a firmware update often changes the factory presets. New ones are sometimes added and others removed, and others are modified even if the name is not changed. It's quite plausible that factory presets sound different after a firmware update. What's less frequent are changes to the overall sound engine, though they sometimes occur as well. But generally your custom presets sound the same after an update.
  24. Sorry - I'm missing your reference when you say "they sound identical". What is "they" that sound identical as a matter of fact?
  25. Would you also feel cheated if you bought a new car this year and next year the manufacturer introduced a stripped down version of the same model with fewer features at a reduced price? How about a lawnmower? PA system? Mobile device? Computer? Pick your product/industry. Happens all the time, everywhere.
