  1. Yes, you should definitely use the Line output setting. You should have no problem using the XLR outputs.
  2. With what device are you viewing the website? Your question implies it's not a PC/Mac, and in a previous response you didn't answer a question about 'a phone or something', so I guess we're all kind of struggling to understand your question. As someone else mentioned earlier it's a bit of a paradox.
  3. But what is the spec sheet? A printed page? A display on an electronic device? If so, what device?
  4. All the settings are embedded within the preset/tone file, and you can't inspect them without loading them into the edit program which of course requires a computer. I know of no website that contains all the detailed settings of all Customtone (or other) POD HD tone files in a human readable format. I know of previous efforts on the part of some users to go part way. They built various custom, personalized utilities that would at least partially parse the tone files and generate a readable document showing selected settings. Afaik all of these efforts were abandoned. It's a massive undertaking and begins with reverse engineering of the tone files to try to figure out the proprietary Line 6 file format.
  5. Short answers are yes and no respectively. Yes you have to hit the Start switch the instant of the first 'beat' and th Stop Recording switch at the same instant after the last 'beat'. Of course, the recorder has no concept of beats. And no, there is no way to erase part of a loop.
  6. I used to use both occasionally but I don't anymore. The main Line 6 JTV support/repair guy (username psarkissian) has advised against it. Apparently it can cause circuitry overload issues.
  7. I expect any answer you would get would be in terms of the evolution of DSP capacity, rather than components. You could compare it to pixelation in the photo/video world. The evolution of processing power in cameras has consistently improved the depth and granularity of the images, and you can speak of this generation of camera having ten times the number of pixels as the previous generation. Similarly, the amp modelling in the HD series allowed ten times the sample rate of the X3 series, resulting in much higher granularity and realism of sound reproduction. Number of frames/second and pixelation depth defines image realism. Similarly, audio sample rate/depth defines audio image realism. Same story.

    FRFR ?

@Old-Rocker: I confess I haven't read this whole thread so forgive me if I am being redundant or missing the point. It's possible that the struggles you are having are based on false expectations. There is a real difference to be expected in the sound of the amp in the room vs. the sound of FRFR, being a mic'd amp in the audience or control room/studio. FRFR is designed to deliver the sound an audience hears when your amp is mic'd and sent through the PA system, or the sound the recording engineer hears in the control room. It will not, and shouldn't be expected to, deliver the sound that a guitarist hears directly from his amp on stage or in rehearsal. There is no FRFR replacement for that sound of a physical amp/cab pushing all that air in your face. If that's what you are trying to reproduce you will be forever struggling.
  9. Yes, the PC sounds will also come through your X3. This should happen automatically but you might need to specifically set the X3 as your sound device in the PC Sound control panel item. You may not need additional cables but you might need an adapter. If your existing speakers are connected to your PC with a 1/8" stereo plug you could connect them to the X3 headphones output using a 1/8" to 1/4" stereo adapter.
  10. No. If your Variax is connected directly to an amp the POD settings are irrelevant. You should hear the sounds of the Variax models through a 1/4" cable connected directly to the amp as long as your Variax battery is good. The only other thing that could be the problem is the 1/4" cable. If you can hear the Variax mag pickups through the amp, but not the models, there's definitely a problem with your Variax.
  11. You need to connect your speakers to the POD's outputs. The POD becomes your computer's soundcard. The internal computer soundcard, and speakers connected to your computer, are bypassed.
  12. The manual describes all the amp models (Chapter 4). Each model has the same range of settings as the original amp. You need to experiment with the settings/dials to find the sounds you like; there's no 'right' setting. The presets will give an idea of where to start. Find the presets that you like and fine tune them to make them sound better (to you). http://line6.com/data/6/0a060b316ac34f0593b09200e/application/pdf/POD%202.0%20Advanced%20Guide%20-%20English%20.pdf
  13. Try not to get discouraged. If it is a main board or other hardware failure I'm sure Line 6 will help you get it resolved as quickly as possible. My first thought is to return it to the retail location where you got it and demand a replacement.
  14. Don't be too concerned about the software end of things. It's pretty straightforward and there are many people here willing to help if you need it. And there are lots of online help docs too, like this..... http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/amplifi-products/ampl/how-to-update-amplifi-3075150fx100tt-with-w-r701 I don't own either a Spider or AMPLIFi amp, but I do have a Firehawk which is similar in concept to AMPLIFi. If you want portability/mobility, tone matching, and a great jamming/learning environment I would definitely recommend an AMPLIFi over a Spider.
  15. The pedal's toe switch is assigned by default as its on/off switch. It is also used to toggle between the EXP-1 and EXP-2 positions. The toe switch is physically located beneath the toe of the pedal. It's easy to miss that fact because the switch is initially very difficult to engage. It will loosen up over time but at the beginning you have to really pass down hard on the very top of the pedal. You can't do it sitting down, you have to stand and REALLY stomp/press down on it. Don't worry - you won't break it!
  16. Yes that's normal. I think that's what he's getting at - if the mags are working properly it could be that the 'main board' circuitry (which provides the modeling features) is faulty. Line 6 will advise you through their support ticket mechanism.
  17. I would open a support ticket to work directly with Line 6 tech support on this. http://line6.com/support/tickets/add.html
  18. Check the input switch on the VX. Make sure it is set to guitar, disabling the mic. It's possible that the mic is active and the mic gain level/dial is set very high. This could overload the mic input circuitry and might cause the device to shutdown for self-protection until the input level decreases.
  19. Correct. Just pull straight up. To get more leverage you might want to use a pair of spoons or something under opposite edges. Use a cloth under the spoons to protect the surface of the guitar.
  20. Inputs can be set either globally or per preset. You want per preset.

    A 435 hz

I believe the Hd500 tuner has a Reference parameter. The default value is A440 but you can adjust it. Activate the tuner and check the parameter displays.
  22. I would set Input1=Mic and Input2=Aux. Use a dual path preset (see below). Do not assign any amp or FX in the preset; leave it empty. In the preset below, remove all elements on Path A, but don't change the preset structure. In the mixer adjust the Path A and Path B levels until you are satisfied with the output signal balance. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/217206/
