  1. Hope you get a good price for the M20d. Good luck with the new gear.
  2. Here are a couple of recent sales for used ones: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Line-6-StageScape-M20d-Mixer-Black-888365214658-/191363007234?pt=US_Live_Studio_Mixers&hash=item2c8e1fc302 https://reverb.com/item/327779-line6-m20d-2014 Do all 5 players need their own custom mix? If you could persuade two people to share the same mix you can daisy chain two monitors from the same M20d mon out, giving each their own monitor with the same mix.
  3. Make sure your Sonic Port 1/4" output is set to Guitar (maybe it's called Amp) level; not Line level. Also make sure you are using the mono output, and a mono guitar lead, from the SP to your amp input.
  4. Not sure what role your Sonic port is playing in this setup. What else is it connected to, and what sound are you trying to send through it to the amp? Is it the Somic Port original or VX?
  5. When viewing the post you should see a Delete button in the bottom right area of the window, just beside the Multiquote button. This is only visible to the poster.
  6. I'm going to set up my Global EQ in Canada. Will it still work if I tour Europe?
  7. ... and I suspect you've seen many, many threads already that debate whether or not this expectation is reasonable. Certainly there was nothing from Line 6 when you purchased the system that promised future updates. I don't know why you consider it a 'fact'; it's actually nothing more than an assumption. An arguably reasonable assumption based on Line 6 product history.... but still only an assumption. You now have an already improved product (the 2013 update) than the one you purchased. So let the debate resume (again). My opinion is that you have already received more value than you paid for. Any disappointment you feel is of your own making.
  8. Most reported problems with alternate tuning end up being caused by the natural acoustic resonance of the physical string on the guitar, which is in standard tuning. So, for instance, when playing at normal volumes in the alternate drop-d tuning you will hear both the naturally produced low E note (unprocessed and unamplified - straight from the string) as well as the altered low D from the processed and amplified sound. It requires a surprisingly high volume of the processed and amplified sound to completely drown out the acoustic string sound as far as your ear is concerned. There's only sure test. Record a sample of the sound, then play it back. In most cases the playback sound is fine, and contains only the alternate tuning. That means the other sound you are hearing is not present in the recording, and is in fact the natural acoustic sound of the dissonant strings. Try it. If you still hear the dissonance in the recording then there is a different issue.
  9. If you are controlling the JTV Model selection using the HD500 then it does not matter where the physical Model knob is positioned. The HD500 setting determines the model selection. Also, physically moving the pickup selector position changes the pickups within the Model bank of the HD500-defined model, regardless of where the Model Select knob is physically positioned. After selecting a preset on the HD500 that specifies the JTV Model selection, you will need to physically move the Model Select knob on the JTV to override the HD500 model bank specification. So if you do everything with the HD500 there's really no need to touch anything on the JTV itself except the Vol and Tone knobs (unless you have also locked them using the HD500, in which case they can be assigned to control other HD500 amp/FX parameters).
  10. Yes, it can be an audio interface for iPad; camera kit required. Not sure if it charges the device. No dry signal. You would have to create a preset that comes as close as possible (no amp, no FX).
  11. Also, experiment with the Model vs. Standard position of the JTV Alt Tuning knob. The Model position is used when you want to access Workbench-created alternate tunings that are stored with the JTV model. The Standard position is used when you want to control alternate tunings via Pod HD and the VDI connection.
  12. Yes, the learning curve is shorter with Firehawk. It is a simpler single-path device with fewer I/o and routing options.
  13. You can't select the PRE-amp version like you can on the POD HD series, but along with any selected amp you can also select No Cab, which inhibits a mic selection as well. So that's pretty much like using just the preamp. You can set the 1/4" outputs to Amp mode.
  14. I am reminded of this every time someone asks how they can use their internal laptop speakers with the POD HD. Sure you can - but you might as well use the earbuds.
  15. Oooh... of course. I had forgot that the cd/mp3 input is never converted to digital format inside the HD500; it passes directly from the input to the analog outputs. Hence the signal is not available for L6 Link, which is a digital signal. Thanks for reminding me. The way to achieve what you want is to connect the two speakers in a 2-way L6 Link manner - the L6 Link IN of each speaker connected to the L6 Link OUT of the other. This way you will get full stereo of all analog inputs. This means that you need to connect your HD500 analog audio outputs (not L6 Link) to one speaker's analog inputs, preferably the rear panel inputs. Put the HD500 in Studio mode and the speakers in PA/Reference mode. If using the HD500 1/4" outputs set the Output Mode switch to Line. There are only one thing you lose this way, as opposed to using the L6 Link connection: the ability to store/recall the speaker mode setting in the POD HD500 preset. But that doesn't matter in this setup because you don't want the mode to change from PA/Reference. The D/A conversions are the same. There's either a D/A conversion inside the HD500 before the signal leaves the HD500 via its analog outputs, or the same conversion inside the speaker after it receives the digital L6 Link signal.
  16. 1) Don't forget that you don't have to purchase the new model packs. 2) AFAIK Firehawk will not include the new model packs (at least not the new HD models; not sure about the non-HD stuff). You may or may not be able to purchase them at some point in the future.
  17. Check your controller assignments. Sounds like your amp is assigned to the toe switch as its on/off controller. I think you want to remove that assignment.
  18. Also, you don't HAVE to buy anything with this firmware update. The firmware update itself is free, but it also is the first firmware that supports the add-on model packs - which you don't have to buy.
  19. Yes, I can tell you ...... and no, you can't.
  20. Have you tried connecting your audio DAC to the cd/MP3 input on the HD500?
  21. Try turning down the Mic Input level on the Sonic Port VX (see dial on side of device).
  22. In Pod Farm, go to the Mixer page and make sure you have the Guitar input selected.
  23. Re: the JC-120 distortion...... I had an exchange in another thread yesterday with user named RipperShred. We (respectfully, I hope ;)) disagreed on whether the JC-120 should be included in the Vintage amp pack or the Metal pack. Turns out the main point of distinction is the Distortion feature on the JC-120. I happen to share the view expressed by Zap above. However, RipperShred pointed out that it is exactly this feature that makes the JC-120 a favorite in the metal world. After all, Metallica is a very successful band with a huge following and James Hetfield (yes, I do know who he is :P ) is apparently a big proponent of the JC-120. Just goes to show ya.... one man's ceiling is another man's floor (or something like that). Different strokes for different folks ... whatever. Thanks to RipperShred for educating me on the metal-worthiness of the JC-120. The moral of this story is.... use the distortion knob on the JC-120 at your own risk! :o
