reggiedadog
Hi I’m an noobie and looking at various options for stage set up at the minute. Been seriously considering a L2T speaker However for home my current set up is direct to a Fender Blues Junior (way too loud) or via Helix into a pair of JBL305 speakers. I was wondering if I sold both of these (the JBL and the Blues Jr) and bought the L2 speaker, would it work turning it down to home use levels? Yeah Yeah I know about the Higgs boson effect or whatever it is, just wanting something to hear whilst experimenting and practicing. Thanks in advance Edited May 11, 2019 by reggiedadog Typo
Ed_Saxman
Turning down the volume to home user levels is not a problem. However, the internal fan noise is very noticeable when when it starts up. In my experience, the "Electric Guitar" setting is the only "Speaker Mode" that sounds good enough: " The overall frequency response emulates the sound of a 212 combo amp. The 10” speaker plays full range, with the horn adding only the smallest amount of sparkle" All the rest Speaker Modes pumps the lows or let go too much "sparkle" from the tweeter. Comparing the Stagesource L2T with the "powered cabs" I also have (Roland GA-212, Roland AC-90, both using line inputs), it sounds a bit "boxy" to me , and feels somewhat compressed. The VDI connection is great, however. It completely isolates from ground noise when using my Helix+Variax. The feedback supressor feature really works (using a mic), and I really like the acoustic guitar options. If I were you, I would seriously consider the new L6 Power Cabs instead, unless you really need a PA.

Thanks in advance Honestly, if you're looking to sound good at comfy living room volume, studio monitors are the way to go, and you already have what you need. Those JBL's are great monitors for the price...I have a pair myself. I've seen them for as little as $200/pair new, so whatever you'd get for them used would be minimal. May as well hold onto them. I have an L2T also, which I've been using live as a floor monitor for years now (though probably not much longer, as we're transitioning to in-ears). It sounds great too, but it's really for getting loud. Not that you can't turn it down of course, but I never even turn it on in the house... just no need. Plus they're considerably bigger than the vast majority of studio monitors, and unless you get two of them you'll lose the option for stereo FX, which are magnificent (love me some stereo delay, 1/4 note on one side, dotted 1/8th on the other... sounds huge for solos, lol). Also, even if you don't do any home recording at the moment, you might want to at some point, in which case you're gonna need a pair of monitors... sell the Fender if ya want, but keep the JBL's. JLondon
I've got an L3m, L3T, L2T, and Powercab plus and here's my 2 cents worth. Since your specifically wanting something for "home use" and don't mention needing stereo (I'm using the 2 L3s as speakers for my daw/Helix/whatever in a little 12 X 14 room - wow!) I would either go for the L2T (rather than M) or the Powercab Plus. The L2M is only an FRFR speaker where the "T" has it's own built in mixer and doubles as an acoustic amp as well. A lot of bang for the extra $100. It's also very compact and easy to move around. But you said "home use" so my vote is for the Powercab Plus. It does it all (except the mixer) in my opinion giving you both an FRFR option or real/traditional amp speaker cab option, and makes an awesome acoustic guitar speaker as well. Love all my L6 products for different reasons/uses but the PC+ sounds like the best option in your particular case.
mrkphpps
I think they had to build something a little bigger than a guitar amp to find the Higgs Boson - check out cern. If you want my opinion - home is home - out is out - anything that works at gig volume is going to rattle the windows and annoy the neighbours. Actually - my KRK 6s are capable of that... At home - you probably need the JBLs - if you gig then you definitely need something a little bigger. Either way, Fletcher and Munson will interfere... reggiedadog
Tried a powercab today, I loved the tone but they only had the basic model in, so Ive ordered the plus so I can swap speakers via midi when switching from electric to acoustic patches. Cant wait to get it!
schuha_at
I use studio monitors for home use. Large stage monitor or FOH boxes should be reserved for the big stage. At home you are better served with nearfield monitors. Than even neighbors can become good friends. ;-) Just my 50 cents.
HeathDaddy
That's my exact living room rig....and I love it. The good part is, when I gig I simply pack it up and use the same gear. Either a line out to FOH and get my own monitor mix, or sometimes I line out directly to the L2T, and then one to FOH, and then take another line FROM FOH for a monitor mix and send it into another channel on the L2T and control the volumes of each from there. I don't feel like collecting studio gear anymore. This stuff does both very well. My 2 cents.

reggiedadog
so to conclude my feelings on this thread I bought the Powercab + and I love it, its funny but after playing for years and using overdrive pedals with valve amps the sound I can get from the craked Matchstick or Brit 2204 models with no overdrive, at home levels, uis amazing. So much better than the studio monitors! Highly recommend it!
beascott
Folks seem to be loving the Powercab plus. For me, I love my L2t and L2m combo at home. It doea it all--electric, acoustic, bass, and stereo. It leaves me not wanting for anything more.
dickbanks
The Line 6 StageSource speaker turn down to low volume very well. I have two L3Ts in my studio, and I can play through them at 5am with my wife sleeping one room over--obviously WAY low--excellent fidelity. As to why I'm up playing at 5am, well I guess that's for a different sort of forum....
