  1. Hi, i am irritated by some 'background distortion', sizzeling, .... . In the attached files (preset + wav) it's very prominent but i hear it not only in clean(ish) sounds but also - in varying degrees - in some overdriven/crunchy ones. Is this - some problem with the (active) pickups of my ESP LTD EC1000? - something i'm doing wrong with the preset? - just 'normal behaviour'? - some defect? - .... Thanks Simon HelixDist01.wav.zip HelixDist.hlx

  2. Firmware: v2.71.0, but I think non only OS: Windows 7 Global Settings: factory defaults (Helix with a complete factory restore) Bug: Suspected malfunctioning of the Channel Volume, introducing unwanted parallel distortion. (Step by step description of how to reproduce bug) A little introduction is necessary before the description of the problem, the following steps should demonstrate not the problem but a trick to solve it partially an temporarily. VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: DURING THE PROCEDURE, PAY ATTENTION MANAGING THE VOLUMES LEVELS, WRONG SETTINGS CAN DAMAGE YOUR HEARING!!!!!!! BE CAREFUL Create a completely new preset; Add a AMP+CAB block (one you really know well how it works, one you use very often, better if you start with a distorted one); Set the CHANNEL VOLUME parameter at 0 Add at least 2 stereo GAIN blocks after the AMP+CAB, each one settled at +12db; Set the output level of the OUTPUT block to comfortable level for you (I used +20 db); Play with the AMP+CAB varying the parameters at your taste. After this, first of all is very important you understand if the chosen amplifier is working really so much better than ever, for me certainly, otherwise it could not be a bug forwardable to Line 6. As rebuttal do the following steps: Disable the two gain blocks; Rise very carefully the CHANNEL VOLUME continuing to play. Finally I want to say, only to know I'm not a newbie, that: I have a very big experience with Line 6 product; I have been playing for 35 years; I had a multitude of different amplifiers and multi-effects in the past; I have a large knowledge of musical instruments and surroundings. So, let me know your experience, to understand if I found something very useful or it's only a dead end. Personal note: I have the suspect that CHANNEL VOLUME is working in parallel for the processed and unprocessed CAB block signal, so in fact lowering at 0 the parameter you reduce at minimum the unprocessed signal intervention. I'm very interested in your opinions so be free to comment.

  3. I can't find that in the Powercab manual. I can only find: "The output signal will have an SM57 microphone model applied when using speaker models." in reference to Powercab 112. For Powercab 112+ and 212, the user selected mic model is used. I thought Mode:Flat sent the input directly to the XLR out with no processing for all voicings (FRFR, LF Flat and LF RAW). Can you provide a source or verify? I had suspected the purpose of the Natural speaker model was to provide a means of adding a mic model to the Eminence speaker at the XLR out, and the difference between Mode:Flat, Voicing LF Raw, and Mode: Speaker, Natural was the EQ applied by LF Flat normalization was essentially removed. So the difference between Flat: LR Raw and Speaker:Natural is the additional processing through the EQ. And I suspect this EQ is done with delta IRs. But this is all speculation.

  4. This may be a different issue. Greyed out options indicate that a preset’s DSP capacity is maximized - that there is insufficient DSP remaining to load the greyed out FX block. Try testing the looper using an empty preset. Does the looper work on its own?

  5. I've had similar issues in Studio One with the Helix (versions 4 & 5). I ended up using Asio4all whcih allows me to use my Focusrite Scarlett for playback but also record form the Helix simultaneously. Its not the cleanest thing but works well enough. I only find I have to re-assign lanes once in a while in "song setup".

  6. I use a lot of this bundle in my Standard. Its very nice, and it was generous of @arislaf to share his work with the community.

  7. Here's the bundle of his Ultimate Realistic JTV models. I have not checked this in awhile so make a backup of your JTV models before you load this. Of course, you would load it in the HD Workbench first anyway. Hope this helps. Ultimate.bun

  8. Yeah, I have, and it is marginally improved, but still quite present. Just to add some more info to describe the sound: It's coming from the low-end of the guitar i.e. the bottom 2-3 strings, but it manifests itself as a nasty high end fizz/unnatural distortion. Is this some sort of aliasing?? I can certainly dial some of it out if I but a low cut on the front, and then put Bias and Bias X up full, but it is still there.

  9. Yeah, I hardly ever load up an amp model, and leave the sag/bias sections at default... and I like to create a new patch for each song/instrument. I don't think I have come across any amp models in the helix that I don't like in some form, for some reason. I have found some that for no reason seem to use a lot of DSP (Mail-Order Twin is the name if I remember correctly) but boy I could get it to sound quite nice for the application.

  10. ... addition: Tried it and succeeded! :-D Bias does the trick. ... and i had a lot of fun playing around with just a few amps and their settings. THANKS A LOT!

  11. Is it the sound the quickly fades in after the note is played? It's subtle, but I can hear that. I just loaded your patch into Helix Native to give it a try. I can hear those sounds when the CALI IV (Boogie) amp is loaded (default on your patch) but if I disable that and load the US DBL (Twin) the sound does not appear. It sounded consistent to a cold bias to me... so I raised the bias on the CALI IV to 7 or 7.5 and that sound disappeared and the overall tone warmed up. Maybe try that on your patch.

  12. Hiya So I am playing around with the Helix and my 5 string (Cort with Bartolini Mk3 all set to neutral) and I am getting some very odd bass distortion. At the moment I am running the Helix with no Amp or FX using the Guitar In and the SPDIF out into a Focusrite Liquid 56. I have turned everything off just to see if it was the amp/cab/FX that were causing the artifact. It seems mainly to affect the low A but it can be heard on the E as well. I have tried the output to headphones and it's still there I also put my bass through my Sans Amp RPM and its fine no distortion at all. I have dropped the Guitar Input level and tried the noise gate on and off with no effect I have Tried dropping the Digital level on the Helix output and no effect The signal to the Focusrite is well within normal and there is no peak There are no effects anywhere in the signal path I have tried with DAW tracking and without I have tried with the amp/speaker on and off and no difference distortion still there. So at the moment, I am thinking the Helix can't handle such low frequencies but I find that surprising as my Fractal can so I am at a bit of a loss. Anyone else using a 5 string with the helix? Anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of this? Thanks in advance for any ideas

  13. Dumb question, but have you replaced the battery in your guitar yet? I had a similar problem with my JP13-7 into some other gear and it was wigging me out - but then I realized my battery was getting weak. Once I replaced it, the noise/distortion went away.

  14. I don't think I've seen it mentioned, but did you try replacing the battery? On my Ibanez 1205E I can recall a weak battery at one point causing unwanted distortion/clipping. Not sure how this explanation might jive with it sounding OK through your Sans Amp though.

  15. Hiya and thanks for all the suggestions here is where I am up to: Guitar in Pad om/off - no difference Aux in - Much better but still there Return 1 in - As Guitar in I have played with SPDIF output levels and that does make a difference but the signal gets so quiet it's verging on unusable and adding the Input Gate does little to help I then decided to put my base though a SansAMP Bass Driver DI into the Mic Input of the Helix to see if that would tame a hot signal and to an extent it has but it is still there in the low frequencies like it's overdriving something but the input levels to the SPDIF in are all in the green as well as the input levels in the DAW. I tried the SansAmp DI in both on and off modes and off mode was the best so far with an acceptable signal level. Solution: Guitar In (pad on) to 1/4" out no distortion So I guess that the SPDIF circuit is, in some way, getting too much of a hot signal at either my Focusrite or the Helix and as I don't have another SPDIF A/D converter to hand it will remain an unknown for the present moment. Many thanks for all your suggestions and patience.

  16. Nevermind solved it already fixed by running the license manager and deactivate and reactivating pod farm
