  1. It's about the music, pure music.

  2. You are not alone. That's what I plan to do as well. I should be able to pull up a raw amp, adjust a few tone controls, and get a decent miked amp sound. If that can't happen I'll pass. Every other product they've produced, besides HD, was able to deliver on this funtionality. I'm hoping Line 6 has learned from HD. The hands on test will tell the tale.
  3. Thanks for the hands on review Drew!
  4. Back to the question the graphs and give you lots of various bits of information. You can pinpoint trouble areas in the frequency spectrum and know exactly what freq to cut or boost. You can find out if you have an EQ that is up to the task, meaning is -12dB of cut enough or do you need more. I know one manufacturer that was asked why there seemed to be a high freq buzz in their amp models. A graph was done and showed a huge spike, which I believe had something to do with the littering in the power supply. For most part it should really be about what sounds good to your ears. Plug in to a few pedals, into your amp, make a few adjustments, and done. However, there are some issues with the HD genre of models that warrant a deep dive to find out what is really going on. Resonance default settings at 100%, that accentuate trouble frequencies, and the Master default, which adds power amp crossover distortion are some of the issues that are finally being understood. Bottom line, sit tight. If things go right all these issues will be addressed with the next big release. Of upgrade and add non-HD amps and the problems mostly go away.
  5. You need a graph and numbers to figure out the EQ, that's for sure! LOL
  6. No need. DI can be trusted. I'm looking forward to the next big release.
  7. This is really great information and much appreciated.
  8. Pod 2.0 was made to sound like a,....well...an amp. Same with XT and X3. Remember how amps work? Pretty much plug in and play. Maybe tweak a few tone knobs. I would have been really awesome if the HD series was made to FIRST sound like an amp and THEN let you have the deep drive into settings. But that would not have made any sense. LOL I feel positive that with the next release they will get it right. And if they do people will run from this generation of gear like the plague.
  9. If you run a HD unit into headphones or into a desk, yes it "used to" sounds pretty bad. The lastest firmware fixes a lot of that. If you only run it into an amp it will sound a million times better. Why? Because the natural roll of of the speakers helps to remove and in some ways mask the harsh fizziness. That is one of the reasons why some people love the HD gear and others don't. If you never go direct or use headphone you most likely will not hear the fizz. I would even guess that was how the units were tested at L6 before they were shipped. I don't think they would haven elevated it if they knew how bad the sound was. But that a bit in the past. Firmware update fixes most of the problem.
  10. Here is a link that compares the Pod 2.0 to the Pod HD300. It doesn't matter which HD unit you have it still has that nasty fizz. This is why some have gone back to the XT and X3 and why, IMHO, AMPLIFI uses algorithms for the X3 and NOT the HD gear. Again, this is made better if you get the latest 2 firmware upgrades.
  11. BTW, the latest firmware upgrades (the last 2) help make the unit sound 80% better! Not sure why Line 6 is not talking about this, but whatever. There is still a bit of digital fizz there, but there is a huge improvement. Get the latest firmware folks!
  12. Not having frequencies is a big deal that could effect the purchase of this product. It's just another element that make it difficult to program. Add that to insufficient processing power and a horrible direct sound compared to previous versions of Pod it makes one wonder who was captaining the ship when Line 6 released the HD product and if the were drunk at the helm. HD is both the best and worst product released. No doubt why it was not used for Amplifi. But when the new gear is released the HD stuff will just be a bad dream. And I very much doubt anyone will keep any of those units compared to the number of people who still swear by the original Pod, 2.0, XT, and X3.
  13. Digital_Igloo, thanks for posting. I get what your saying and I hope AMPLIFI is a success. This digital world we live in has really mucked up how some people think about gear. Why are you afraid of being dumped? Do people who own old Strats, Les Pauls, Marshall/Fender amps, TS808s, and old Big Muffs worry about being dumped? Why is it that in the analog world older gear that sounds great is considered vintage, while in the digital world old gear that sounds great (Pod, XT, X3, etc) is considered obsolete? Especially when right now the direct out of my 2 pod 1.0 units sounds a million times better than the direct out of my HD bean? We have great gear today that will still be great tomorrow. Tomorrow will bring more options, more power, new ways of doing things, but what we have today is still great and still delivers. You are not being dumped. You have been given great power. Use it! Spend more time playing, improving your technique, and writing great songs, and less time chasing the lastest software version and Uber HD product........until it's released anyway. :)
  14. I think it was an oversite, plan and simple. It may also be very difficult to correct in the programming. My hope it that in the next generation of Pod gear this is corrected. Every piece of gear I have uses frequencies for adjusting detailed EQ parameters. It makes things easy when sharing settings between them. Not having them drops their flags ship product below other products.
  15. I have to agree. I'm not sure what Line 6 was thinking when they put frequencies as percentages. I can only hope this is corrected in the future. And Mr. Smith, thank you for your hard work. My appreciation is beyond words! Mr. Meambobbo, ditto! Love your website.
  16. If been perplexed by this issue for months, trying to understand and fix it. Time to ask the experts. When ever I try to use the Pod HD for recording in my studio and it sounds raspy and unusable. I've also noticed this when trying to use headphones. I've set the unit for "Direct", but it still sounds terrible. For reference I have an original Pod version 1, a Pod Pro, and a Pod X3 connected to my Mackie board and they all sound great Direct and with headphones. Why does the Pod HD sound so bad? I have tried all of the output setting with no success. If I plug the unit into and amp and set it accordingly it's a bit better, but has to be excessively tweaked to get it to sound right. I have had better success turning off the Pod's cab emulation off and using one from another device. This seems to fix the raspy tone issue for direct recording and for going into an amp. While this was fine for experimentation I do not want to pull out 2 pieces of gear to do what one piece should be able to achieve. So can you help me to get the Pod HD to sound as good as the original Pod and Pod X3 going directed and to headphones? Thanks.
  17. I say go with Amplifi. You will not be disappointed with the tones you archive and the ease of use.
  18. That's because the tones from the X3 rocked big time! Great tone never goes away. That Line 6 choose to put the algorithm from the X3 in their new amp and not the HD algorithms says a lot.
  19. The Pod XT was replaced by pod X3. Try it. You won't be disappointed.
  20. You won't "see" the problem, and it us most likely a hair line fracture. Take a soldering iron and some solder that contains resin and reheat the connections to the jack. That may help. If not you may have to remove the old solder and re-solder the jack. If you are not sure how to do this seat the help of a professional so that you do not ruin your unit. The X3 is a good unit with some great tones. Once you get this fixed you'll be able to enjoy it.
  21. It could be a defective jack, or more accurately cold solder joints between the jack and PC board. This can cause everything for a distorted sound to a complete loss of signal. On thing that might show this s to strum the guitar and then "GENTLY" push up or down on the guitar jack at the input of the X3. If the sound cleans up or cuts out that is your problem. With that seek an authorized repair person and explain to them the issue and if you noticed the items listed above.
  22. Looks like I have a tone deaf hater not liking my posts. My guess is that they sunk loads of cash into the HD gear and don't want to hear the the emperor has to tone. That's why Line 6 makes gear for everyone. Even the deaf.
  23. For sure get the Metal Pack or just get an X3, which includes all the packs and for some reason sounds much better than the XT. However don't get an HD unit. iMHO they sound worse and forums across the web are full f stories of people trying to get them to sound right and who later either go back to the X3 or another manufactures pedal all together.
