I paid 695€ for a first hand JTV-89 Blood Red. Thomann (the biggest european music store) was also selling the 89 black for 650€ Both offers lasted quite some time, while stocks last. Therefore, I think a reasonable price would be around 450€. Unfortunately, the Variax Guitars doesn´t retain their value very well in the second hand market. Personally I think I'll stick with mine. It is often hard to find guitars with thin, flat and wide neck, and fixed bridge. For this single reason, the 89 it´s a keeper for me.

Ooops! I´ve just checked it now to answer you and I realized I was partially mistaken. As soon you turn off or disconnect the POD, all the names of the amp packs dissapear from the list, but both the icon and the parameters still works in all the presets already loaded where a amp from the new packs were saved. So: if you sync your POD to the HDEdit, then turn off/disconnect the POD, the HDEdit will continue showing the amps packs (except names) in the saved presets, but you´ll be unable to create a new preset with those amps (unless you duplicate a existing one). Not a big issue after all, so you can use it almost normally. Just make a basic preset for each amp. The only drawback is not to be able to choose any cab coming from the packs.

Tuning to [435hz] with POD HD500x Edit and a JTV69
Ed_Saxman replied to Mastersonics's topic in POD HD
Not possible with the HD Edit. Try using Variax Workbench. Maybe you can create a Variax model somewhat detuned using the "parallel pitch" feature (Pitch at 0, Cents to tune) and setting the "mix" parameter to 100% in each string. -

Just kidding. All you have to do is turn the "1" knob. You'll see the option when you are in tuning mode. -

No way. -
Yep, you need to plug the Pod to see the new amps. However, if you turn off the POD after being connected, the HDEdit continues to show the amps pack while the program is still open.

Why is my HD500x tuner not working when Variax is connected via VDI?
Ed_Saxman replied to Rocco_Crocco's topic in POD HD
Have you selected "Variax" as input 1? -
What about a standard WIFI N to work in To-Host mode with the editor? That is cheap and is something a wide percentage of us would use. I can even imagine a Helix device with no screen built in that uses an iOS/android device instead, wirelessly.

There is another bug in the new Tweed model, isn´t it? That model is incredibly noisy. Of course you can set the "hum" parameter to 0, but when you reduce the "master" parameter, the noise goes even worse.

The " analog chorus" effect in the HD series is modeled after the original JC-120 chorus. (Boss CE-1, same guts than internal JC120 built-in chorus) Place it after the amp, but just in a side of the path, and leave the another clean, as it Is in the original JC-120.

I just wrote a quite long review about the model packs in my language, but I'm too lazy to translate it: http://www.guitarristas.info/foros/comunidad-line-6-pod-hd/164361/pagina87#post1979054 In resume: HD Bass Pack -> Superb. HD Vintage Pack -> Great (most part) HD Heavy Pack -> Quite good (HD amps), but totally dispensable "Podfarm" amps. Next time, better forget that old Podfarm stuff and develop more HD amps and Cabs. Good work anyway. Looking forward for the next gen POD HD.

Is a known fact: we live in a world where a very small number of people steal an explode the rest of us, but al least we still have the right to say it loud. A revolution is coming, and it will be televised. Anyway, I was referring to a specific case: If I paid an extension in the form of firmware/software for a specific machine, I understand that if the manufacturer pretends to re-charge for the same concept to someone that buy that same machine second, third, or seventh hand, then yes, absolutely!: that is something I would call a kind of theft. No matter if they call it "personal use license" as a (US) legal subterfuge. Do not be so thin skin, especially when you are talking about the private interests of a private company. As you say in the US: it's not your business. We shall do so! I think I'll buy the model packs this afternoon, after creating a new account just to register my HD500 and purchase the model packs in order to be able to give it to the next person who buys my machine in the future, including all the content that is already paid, so nobody has to pay for it anymore. Thanks for the offer, has been a great idea. Otherwise I do not think that would have bought, because I think that the initial price was too high, and even more expensive for those of us who had to pay extra taxes. I remember that they was giving a Podfarm license for free for the last year X3 Live costumers, as well as different generations of Variaxes being brutally discounted (I bought my Variax 705 Bass along with a Bass Pod XT live for a incredible price), but my memory doesnt go further. In any case, that only happens when a product is about to be discontinued. Not a bad thing per se unless we speak about software. Some years ago I bought a very expensive pair of Event ASP6 studio monitors at half the price for this same reason, and I´m very happy with them. However, if it's something you need software or drivers to run, it is much better to sell at the moment is discontinued. That was the story with my Bass Pod XT live. They dont make drivers for OS X anymore (Snow Leo was the first unsupported version, I think), so they forced me to sell it. I hope so.

When a new unit goes on sale, the resale market is flooded with hundreds of the old units, causing prices to fall dramatically. Certainly, if I had to sell the machine at the time, for 1/4 of what I originally paid, maybe I would not sell it. But selling it before, you can still recover about half of the money, which is a reasonable amount in exchange for having used it for 5-6 years. That's what I did when I had the Pod X3 Live. I put on sale just after the HD series was announced, and I could recover more than half. It is also true that I spent about 3 months without a multi-effects unit, waiting for the HD500 arrived in stores, but that also helped (forced) me to save the remaining money to buy it ASAP. Users who retained their X3 Live until the HD500 was on sale, had to assume lose at least 2/3 of what they paid, which in many cases led to renounce sell. (Which in turn involved in many cases not buy the next generation until a few months or years later.) Staying with an electronic device with more than 5-6 years means: be willing to bear the cost of repairs, face to receive updates on drivers later (or will no longer supported) and see how the rest of the people is talking about how good the new generation is, while you keep your old outdated model. Of course if the money its not a problem for you all the above its pointless, but I live in a country where the 65% of people are very poor, so usually the amount of personal possessions may not be very large, and certainly doubling machines that do the same thing would be a luxury. Therefore, for most of us, it is usually necessary to sell any possessions in order to buy another one. Accumulating patrimony is an exclusive privilege of the socially advantadged minority. The same arguments can be applied to your mobile phone, but most people buy a newer iPhone while the previous one still works, isnt it? (capitalism s_ucks, I know). Still, I doubt that anyone should pay 100 extra bucks for minimally extend the functionality of their mobile phones, six months before they come out the next generation.

Absolutely agree. Spend more than 100€ in a unit so near its EOL is pointless, unless you're actually making money with it. This expansion pack would have been fine if it had come out, let's say, two years after the launch of the HD series, but at this moment a second-hand HD500 is selling for around €250, and prices will fall even more when the next POD generation (and/or the Fractal AX8) hits the shelves. If I could buy just the JC-120 and a bass amp, I would. But spending over €100 on something that has already lost half the price of what I paid initially, and I'll have to sell off in a few months to finance the purchase of the next gen fancy thing, it's something that I can´t rationally justify to myself.

Well... look as this picture: This is the Kurt Rosenwinkel setup (november 2011, Barcelona). If the EX-1 is stage worthy to him, then it should work for me as well

I used to have a M-Audio expression pedal and it does not work properly, like most 3rd party pedals. The range was not complete (something like 35-100%), so this renders it almost unusable. The Line6 expression pedal (EX-1) includes a passive 10K ohm mono linear taper pot, so it´s good for volume and effects parameters (I got one for 30€ second hand (or foot), and it works OK for that purpose.) but not so much for wah. On the other hand, the Mission Engineering EP-1L6 seems to be great for wah, as it use a 20k Ohm custom taper pot, similar to that found in analog wah pedals, but it´s really expensive for what it is, IMHO. For that price you can get a good real Wah. My advice: keep using the onboard pedal for volume/effects, save a bit more and get the G-Lab "Wowee Wah" . This is an optical wah, true bypass, includes an amazing pressure activated mode by placing and releasing the foot from the pedal, and you can even send MIDI messages from the POD HD to control its parameters, with the MWW-1 version: http://www.glab.com.pl/midi_wowee-wah_en .

Jennifer Batten on Variax

It seems a 69 US heavily customized for her. -
So.... What if/When we sold our Pod HD? (in about 1 year or less, when the next generation Pod or Fractal AX8 hit the shelves) It´s is possible to create a new L6 account just to register our machines with the xpansion packs installed? This is the main reason (besides the price of the models packs) that is holding me in the intention of buying it. Moreover: - There is any "legal" impediment to doing this? (I mean selling the Pod HD and give the buyer the associated account from which the models packs were purchased) - Once the model packs are installed, they remain installed on the machine forever? Or you need to keep track of L6 associated account?

Absolutely agree. Get any dedicated machine for serious looping. Get a Boss RC-300 to be able to record perfect loops by setting the number of measures (a essential feature that only this unit allows), and forget about imprecise loopers that can ruin your sense of tempo.
