  1. I bought my Helix Floor when they first came out in 2015 and I don't think I've ever even touched a factory preset. What's the point? It's highly unlikely they used a guitar like the one I use, and it's probably not likely they're using the same output rig as me. I can waste my time a WHOLE lot better than that!!!!
  2. I suppose anything's possible...especially with the FCC who has a great deal of autonomy in it's mandates. But there are tons of other factors one of which is that Florida (and in particular those three cities where you played) are leading almost every place in the US with population growth, 2nd only to Texas. By definition that means a lot more infrastructure and a lot more chance for interference in these frequency ranges. As mentioned by some above, I've moved all of my wireless to the plugin dongle style for both guitar as well vocal mic and it's worked solidly, and I'm in Florida in the Tampa area. The downside in your case is these type of units are not really good at long distances, but I think the frequency issue is still going to be a big problem in dense urban areas.
  3. I think I would blame that infamous "Florida Man". You know the one that's always reported on news wires, "Florida man buries his wife in a swamp, Florida man drives across the state on flat tire and wheel rim, causes $12 million in damage to highways....that guy. Honestly my first thought is either power problems or wireless interference at the venues. Is there any commonality there such as near airports or airfields, neon lighting, etc. If not, "Florida Man" is a likely suspect....
  4. Well that's ultimately the whole question....he says this is a new "model"...the obvious question is, "a model of what?" Amp, effect, air conditioning unit?
  5. Regardless of whether you hear clipping or not, flashing red is not a good sign. Intermittent flashing into yellow is understandable especially with signals that can be intermittently "peaky" like drums. But you gain nothing with guitar signals peaking into red and are certainly inviting problems, so why not correct it? The one certain thing is that any peak into red is telling you that you aren't getting an accurate digital to analog conversion.
  6. I've mentioned the performance system I built and use with my band many times but I got in a productive mood this morning and took some pictures to help people see it and understand how it works. The top picture shows the Control Center which is what does all the work. I never really touch it but I keep it on stage just for reference or if there's a problem. The laptop has two USB outputs. One goes to the MIDI Control unit and one goes to the audio interface in the case the laptop is sitting on. The MIDI Control unit controls all aspects of the performance either by me engaging a footswitch such as selecting a song and starting it, or through MIDI commands from the Control Center. Of course one of the main things it controls is the Helix so I rarely touch the Helix on stage other than maybe the volume pedal. The audio output goes to the QSC Touchmix 30 which is our main mixer. As you can see the Live channels for live instruments and voices are separated from the Audio channels which come from either the control center playback or from the streaming laptop situated next to the TM30 and managed by a separate person. If you look closely at the Control Center you'll see it's running Ableton Live in session mode where each row contains a song and each column contains either an instrument for that song, a MIDI control command track, and a stop track to end playback at the end of the song. Those are the commands sent to and from the MIDI Control unit at particular points in the playback of the tracks. Each one of those instrument tracks consists of a single instrument being used within the song being played. If you look closely at the MIDI Control and the Helix you'll see they all have the name of the current song being played. So when I select the next song the MIDI Control system coordinates that action between the Helix and Ableton. So each song is a separate Helix preset and a separate Morningstar MC8 setup. Each song in the live system is it's own .WAV file or a MIDI file. In the bottom left you'll see a screenshot of the studio system where these tracks are created using Ableton in arrangement view along with Native Instrument plugins such as The Gentleman piano. Once completed those MIDI files are all converted down to individual WAV files which are imported into the live laptop system. This avoids a lot of processing and potential problems because live playback doesn't depend on any plugins. That's about it. Hope you find some of these ideas interesting or potentially useful for your applications.
  7. I would think any number of the various portable power stations on the market would do the job just fine for a reasonable investment.
  8. What you need to do is check that both devices you're connecting to have the ability to be linked together in chained fashion. Most often this is done with MIDI in and MIDI out connectors like those on your Helix LT. If the other units only have USB MIDI connectors you may need to get some additional hardware something like THIS
  9. First off, loading presets from the cloud has nothing to do with running out of memory on your presets, unless you're talking about running out of preset slots. The memory used once a preset is loaded has nothing to do with the cloud. That's all a function of the DSP capacity within the unit and would be the same for any modeler. I have no idea whether Line 6 is targeting a new Helix 2.0, but if so we won't know until it's pretty much ready for release. That's just the way things work in this and most competitive industries. I've had my Helix from the moment it was first released and I still haven't outgrown it and it still serves my purposes, but what I think you're seeing now is a lot of folks jumping into the field hoping they can create a spot for themselves by offering some "flashy" stuff that really has little to do with advancing the core abilities of a unit, but enticing people with some features that, in the end, won't improve much as far as performance. The fact is, modelers are modelers. They all work the same way and it pretty much comes down to how much "beef" (level and capacity of DSP) is in the unit. Even if Line 6 were to introduce a unit like you're describing I certainly wouldn't be moved to part with another $1600 without something significant that really improves what the unit can do that's relevant to performing or recording. Eye candy just doesn't impress me...functionality does. As far as connecting to a PC, I've had both of my Helix Floor units since 2015. One in my studio and one for live performance and each one is connected via USB to different PC's and both have worked every day I've owned them without fail and have never had any problems upgrading software or firmware. If you've got your Helix unit and PC loaded correctly with firmware and the appropriately matched version of HX Edit and it's connected to a direct USB port (no hubs) you should have no problems. That doesn't sound like any kind of rain dance to me. That's just simple computer operations and reading and following directions.
  10. The first thing I'd do is try to export an existing preset from your HX Stomp to your local hard drive and then try to import it into another slot. This will tell you whether or not the problem is with the HX Stomp or with the purchased preset. If you can successfully import an existing preset then I'd go to Alex Strabala's site and use his support page to describe the problem as his presets are dependent on some specialized IRs and I'm not sure how you're expected to import them.
  11. As mentioned before, none of that matters if you're using a hub because all bets are off if that's the case. It's been well documented USB hubs are problematic with the Helix USB port.
  12. It's highly unlikely anyone from Line 6 will see or respond to you on this forum as this is really just for users. However there are quite a number of users here that have been using Helix since it's introduction and are quite active in the beta testing programs. I personally think the real question here is, is it WISE or even necessary to use more than 8 snapshots? Snapshots are a great tool. So is a circular saw, but I wouldn't depend on it to fix every problem I encountered in maintaining my home. And the real issue is how many users would sctually benefit from more than 8 snapshots? I'm not sure that's a huge number of us. A better question is how much would DSP limitations make having extra snapshots irrelevant? In many cases I think snapshots can cause someone to disregard an obviously better approach. The fact is, you have much more capability for variations in your tone and usage of the Helix via having access to 1024 different presets. How often are you using that capability? Yes there is a slight pause when changing presets, but I've never encountered that as a problem since I'm not playing music constantly with no breaks or pauses for a period of 4 hours, so I can easily afford that pause to load a new preset configuration. In the over 7 years of performing with my Helix every week I've yet to feel even a hint of a problem with not having enough snapshots available or running low on DSP. But that's because I use my Helix to it's greatest advantage in that it can easily adapt to different styles and genres across any performance...which is the PRINCIPLE value of any modeler.
  13. There may be different issues between what's happening on the Mac and what's happening on the Windows 10 machine. As far as the Mac there's some level of hardware connection issue if turning over the USB-C connection fixed it initially. Of course using a hub in ALL cases is a known area of problems. The no connection on Windows 10 makes me wonder whether the HXEdit version and Firmware versions on the Helix are in alignment. The first thing I'd do is eliminate the well-known culprit which is the USB hub and go to a direct port.
  14. Actually having just finally upgraded my stage system to 3.50, the coolest thing about this approach is that once I have a cab configuration saved it's pretty much the same workflow as an IR, so that takes away my one hesitation about using cabs over IRs.
  15. Yeah I'll try to make it down there..if I don't fall asleep on my habitual Sunday afternoon nap.....
  16. Pitch shifting has nothing to do with the actual number of strings you're playing. It simply works on the note you play and adjusts it accordingly.
  17. Here's what you're not understanding. If you're playing through a physical amp there's no way it's going to evenly produce all the frequencies in an accurate representation across the audible spectrum of human hearing. It's simply not made to do that, and that's why no one would ever dream of using a physical guitar amp for a PA with vocals and everything else. Beyond that, if you stand to the right or left of the traditional amp it will sound very different than if you sit dead in front of it facing the speaker in the middle. What this means is, if you take a mic to capture that amp, depending on the mic and where you place it your sound will inevitably be different to the audience's ear than it is to you on stage because they're using speakers specifically designed for all instruments and voices, unlike a traditional amp. None of my presets are terribly complex, but they're pretty much usable from the moment I create them once I choose and dial in the amp model and dial in the cab and mic setup. But I only listen to it through either my studio monitors or my actual PA speakers which are Yamaha DXR12's. But I know that what I hear on stage from my floor monitors is exactly what my audience is hearing.
  18. I'm sure Line 6 is looking at this as well as other happenings in the modeling space. With all the attention being given to profiling these days it's hard to tell whether that trend is really durable or not. Certainly profiling as we've known it from the Kemper approach has it's limitations in much the same way as IR's have limits based on the regimen used in the capture. And although there may be some that are drawn to it, there are also many of us that aren't that interested in it and just fine with a pure modeling approach. So where does this lead? Who knows? But I have confidence that Line 6 will do what they deem to be the best in terms of performance and market opportunities. They have a good track record at that.
  19. But you still haven't answered the key question which is, what is the type of output you're going to on your FOH? They are not all the same. Especially compared to what was used in creating the initial preset you copied. If he used high end studio headphones or studio monitors to dial in his tone and you're going through a PA with passive speakers and a Crown amp and analog crossover you're bound to have problems. And there's certainly no comparison between the response characteristics of a guitar amp and a modern DSP driven powered speaker. What you're wanting to do is not impossible as many of us have done it for years and are quite happy. But you must understand what you're dealing with in terms of output. This isn't a guitar player thing, this is a sound engineering thing.
  20. I guess I'll just have to dig in deeper into my user rights and make some comparisons between the computers. The problem is it's just annoying and easily worked around so it's hardly worth any big investment in time. Yeah Dunedin Woodwright is just down the street from me in walking distance. I've had a couple of friends play down there. It's a good little crowd. Give me a heads up on your next gig down there and I'll try to drop by.
  21. Nope Admin rights on both. I actually don't have any user accounts on either.
  22. I've had 3.50 running on my Studio Helix Floor pretty much since the release, but I haven't bothered to load it on my production/live performance Helix Floor until today. Both my studio and performance PC are on the same Windows 10 release, but the studio is an USUS desktop and my performance is an ASUS Laptop. I've run into this before and can work around it, but I can't quite figure out why it occurs only on the laptop. When I do the download and run the HXEdit download/update it works fine on the desktop, but it has a problem saying it can't execute the HXEdit update on my laptop. I have to stop the update, go to the HXEdit Update file that was downloaded and Run As Administrator to get it to install HXEdit so I can continue with the update. It's not a big deal, just a nuisance but I was wondering if anyone else runs into this and if so did you find some permanent setting on the computer so this doesn't happen?
  23. I'm going to take a wild guess that the OP has bad seating on his nut and is hearing the additional tone from the vibration of the string above the nut.
  24. Unfortunately all the intelligence for determining whether the change you're making to the preset is valid is in the Helix itself, not in HXEdit. This is why an idea promoted back in 2019 never gained any traction and never will under the current architecture of the Helix.
