Interestingly, I was building brand new Presets from scratch. I figured it was time for a new sound journey. Situation now occurring; 1) Setup patch with multiple FX blocks assigned to on footswitch in latch mode 2) Activate group by stomping on footswitch and the foot switch ring is lit 3) De-activate group, footswitch ring is not lit, but every block icon assigned is now still showing as active even though they are not 4) At this point no FX blocks show the proper state even though every FX block is working in the PA system as I play I checked every Pre-set and though it was a problem with the song list so I use a different song list and now same problem. So I use the trusty FS10+FS11 and no change. FS9+FS10 - rebuild and still problem. Thoughts? Dennis

DI, LOL, yea, I was just starting the initial countdown before doing the 28 day count down till the end of February. Even then, it could be mid-March ... just adding my jovial nature to the comments! :D Dennis

Just saw the ad! Own the Helix and get it for $99.00 .... AND new stuff in 2.20 coming soon to a Helix near you! True? If so I just did what my wife does all the time ... only for real!! I did just spend $1,500 and saved us ... hmm, $15,000 (OK maybe a little over the top but I priced the bass effects and imaged the cost of the amps ...) Tell me this is true (or at least the $99.00 part for current Helix owners and Helix Native)! :o :o Dennis B)

Do yourself a favor and check this periodically: versioning
jpdennis replied to HonestOpinion's topic in Helix
Yep! I uninstall first as well. I even use IObit uninstaller to get everything possible that can be cleanly removed. I am sure there are other and even better uninistallers but I just add that as an extra measure for me. YMMV. Dennis -
Got my Helix! First impressions, demos and impulses. Video inside!
jpdennis replied to GuitarjonSDS's topic in Helix
Thank you very much for the demo. Very informative and very sweet sound all around. -
As long as the Helix absorbs the best of the HD/Pod/M-series effects and amps! B) Now how can I spend those royalty checks?

Save and export preset as well. I take the time every so often to backup set-lists and the presets as well as I build them. Via the editor I have screen shots of the placement of the presets in the set-lists as well as the placement of the IRs. I also note the IR names (a document of any type helps such as MS Word) as I put them in for the case where they get truncated and any export of the IRs or the screen shot shows the same truncated name due to too many characters with some long names to include microphone names in the descriptive name. Those that have seen this know what I mean. Dennis

Helix version of M13 effects not currently on the Helix. They could call it the Melix ... wait that name sounds wrong on so many levels! OK, just add the effects (auto-volume, Slow Gate [OK, not on the M13 but you can't blame a guy for trying], and many of the FX types on the M13 not currently on the Helix .. that part I was serious about). It is the snapshots that are named that exhibit this problem. Here is my complete method 1) Backup presets individually as well as set-lists and IRs 2) Reset the Helix to factory using FS9 & FS10 while turning unit on 3) Uninstall all Helix software (I use IObit uninstaller on my PC based laptop) 4) Reboot laptop 5) Install new Helix software 6) Reboot laptop 7) Connect Helix and follow the Line 6 instructions to the letter (too many polkas in my younger days) to update firmware a) Check version of new Installer as well 8) Make sure everything is once again turned off and disconnected - laptop and Helix 9) Turn on Helix for third time and use the FS10 & FS11 10) Connect Helix to laptop and check Helix Editor version 11) Import set-lists and check for any anomalies in case I have to import specific presets 12) Close Editor and disconnect laptop from Helix after 1 minute wait (should have probably mentioned this earlier). 13) Turn off Helix and restart again using the FS10 & FS11 to rebuild set-lists. 14) Turn off and back on Helix for gins and giggles once more So after all that for this 2.10 update any preset that does not have named snapshots (which I have several of) works fine. Any preset that has named snapshots needs the shorted 1/4" jack trick. As stated I have all my presets that use snapshots defaulted to start on snapshot 1 so I can save a step or two as I mentioned before int his thread. Also, I have several presets where I only name snapshots 1 thru 4 and do not make any adjustment6s or do I name snapshots 5-8. The named snapshots in those presets need the fix but the un-named ones do not. **** One extra note is that when I create a brand new patch in a set-list regardless of whether it is in a set-list I imported or one that is still "virgin" the FX blocks I assign foot-switches to do not light up if I am off that block with the joystick even when activated with the FS until I save, switch to another preset then come back to the new preset. Anyway that is my experience so far with 2.10 Dennis PS: I haven't used the switch-less Wah feature yet.

All my presets default to snapshot one. For me I go to the preset then immediately go to Snapshot 8 first. Then I go to 7,6,5,4,3, & 2 in that order following these step. When I get to one I double tap save because one is correct. It saves me one step.

Once I save the preset it works. And sometimes after I save it I move to another preset then back to the problematic one and it works. Before that I have the same symptom Dennis

Did it! Thanks for the link Phil

Zooey, Thanks. I read the one about using a shorted 1/4" jack on the EXP 2 input jack. Is that the one you're talking about or is there another? Thanks in advance for any response, Dennis

Belated Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian friends. And Happy Thanksgiving to us Yanks today!! (said with a smile on my face and a song [played on this wonderful Helix] in my heart!) Dennis B) :D

Hmmm, pre-2.1 with Snaps. Good to know. Would removing the blocks which use the EXP1/EXP2, saving the Snaps, then adding them back in and save again help? DI out there to try this at home (actually work since that is what I consider my home on some days) AFTER today ... not today! Dennis

Acoustic rhythm guitar is Les Dudek. All other guitars are Dickie Betts. Band is the Allman Brothers Band (some shorten it to Allman Brothers). Song is Jessica. Side note ... when I was young and learning to play guitar the communal house I lived in had this long play record player with a long center spindle for placing 2 or more (a lot more) LP records on. This one guy would sandwich the Fillmore East Allman Brothers LPs in with Yes, Blodwyn Pig, The Band, and a few others. This went one for about 2 years with the Allman Brothers LP always the staple. Duane & Dickie did make quite the team Dennis

I wonder if I can get Thursday off to be safe on both bets. That or major therapy if I fail to read ... twice! Dennis

Wait, aren't we going to 3.07.0121.43.776.1? Oh man, I think I just had a nightmare. It was 1999 again and the Helix wasn't invented. Man, Charlie Brown! Dennis

Last Weekend's Experience Contradicts Things I've Been Reading Here
jpdennis replied to erniedenov's topic in Helix
I play in a cover band, I still do some session work, and I work with worship teams. The issue with what type of headphones versus what type of speakers has been discussed since I have joined the group of Helix owners. All I can say is I had a similar experience. I am using an expensive 250 ohm open back set of headphones only because I tried the under $200.00 route and it didn't work for me. Three weeks ago my sound-man said to take home his powered monitor because I was thinking I could get a better mix if I heard myself through a relatively "Live" environment (using the looper and all). When we next performed and I too stepped onto the dance floor to hear ... No bueno! Quickly switched to my Headphone created set list. It was much better. And then Sunday during worship at my church I used the newly "headphone created" patches I've discussed in another thread and the tone was amazing from the playback I heard. The worship team has dedicated sound engineers. The cover band sound man is also the other guitarist and he is training someone to bring up and turn down volume out front. So it may not be all headphone versus "live" speaker for setting tone, but that is my experience. Last session work was with my FloorPod Plus in February so can't speak to the Helix yet in that arena. Dennis -
I had the FloorPod Plus then the HD500X. The Helix does take some learning but the Forum here and other blogs have so much information I can't imagine someone taking the several months it took me to final say "Nice!" This week I discovered a few tricks and in less than 2 days I revamped my presets. The IR ability was a game changer for me. Anyway, save those pennys and prepare for a nice upgrade. Dennis

I have been watching and learning from Richie for the past two days. I did my best to create his four presets shown in the video using the Ownhammer IRs; yes I bought them . After that I revisited my presets/snapshots and have had a great success in not only clearing up some frustration with a few of my presets, I have tamed some problem patches using the amps I like to use. I am going to have to thank him if I ever can. Even though he only had the unit for three days he suggests he has been blogging using the FB groups and the various Helix forums. Given the experience he has in the music field, his previous HD500(X) experience, and the amount of time he dedicated in three days I am very thankful he shared his outcome so quickly. And thanks to the experienced and the new Helix users in the forum for the all the dedication and work and questions which have resulted in great answers. It DOES take a village to raise a Helix! Very cool. Dennis
