WOW it's about time DI. ... I've already bought 2 EXP's and to answer your question that was my intention but also to add a bunch more toggles ;)

same problem here with the church mixer so I changed the global setting to control the XLR output with the Multi Knob and turn it to about 1 o'clock

Helix XLR outputs and 48v Phantom PowerOct 30 2015 07:28 PM | line6will in HELIX When the Helix XLR outputs are subjected to phantom power, the output level is decreased. Do not try and connect your Helix to a mixer, interface, or PA system that supplies phantom power (48v) to the Helix XLR outputs. The workaround is to use the 1/4" outputs instead. and that is exactly what happend,,,

Do you mean logarithmic and linear ?

Found this yesterday at church I got there plugged in and got ready to play and all the sudden my volume was way low I had to crank the multi knob all the way wide open I tried messing with the global eq, tried switching the input from from guitar to aux, turned the padding on and off, change the battery in my guitar even checked all the cords with my Cord tester then someone came up and said oh we were here yesterday and was trying to get set up for someone to sing and we were connecting to the sound system and then I said to myself now I understand when I thought nothing has changed from the week before, long story short I adjusted some settings and after we played it went up into the sound booth for the rest of the service and noticed the phantom power was on, why did they turn the phantom power on? i'm assuming because the power switch is right next to it on or Behringer 32 channel board but we use a power strip to turn everything on and off but they would've not known that because they don't go to our church regularly in any case I switched that off well my volume came back I was worried that maybe it it might damage the unit but it does not it just was very frustrating to try to get my helix running properly not knowing what had been done and I noticed when I would hit a certain frequency say like an E chord striking the strings open and hard it would make a very loud distorted noise and almost like a cord was bad First thing I did was have my rhythm guitar player to adjust the input sensitivity on the board but the result was a lot of hiss in the monitors so I had him back it down where there was no hiss and I was just able to get enough volume to make it through the beginning of the service. I had thought about starting a thread about this before with the issue of adjusting for levels on the PA I noticed that with the PA at the church I have to have the input level control turned all the way down as low as it would go and I could not use the regular line level output for the XLR's because it was still way too hot for the input of the PA so I had to make it where the multi knob controls the volume level and I would turn it to about 1 o'clock and that would give me an acceptable input level without any hitches good Clear Sound but the input knobs on the mixer still had to be adjusted to the lowest setting I have read in another thread about someone saying that they had read that you were supposed to use the auxiliary input if you have powered pick ups I have an EMG 81 and an 85 in my Charvel and I haven't had the chance to try and see if that would make the difference and usually have the padding for the input off In this case it did but only if you hit an open E cord pretty hard, whether it was actual clipping of the single because of the input or because of the phantom power I'm not sure

NUMBERED PREFIX SCRIPT AND UTILITIES TO HELP WITH IR BACKUPS
jaminjimlp replied to HonestOpinion's topic in Helix
I did post the info before but as you know on a forum things get pushed past the 1st page and are forgotten.... I think its great that you are able to write script and it may help someone in the future to use it for something else. -

NUMBERED PREFIX SCRIPT AND UTILITIES TO HELP WITH IR BACKUPS

PC Freeware Bulk rename utility pretty straight forward and is easy to figure out http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php -
Try this one I made and see what you think its called "Acoustic Match.hlx" https://www.dropbox.com/sh/a6ja1ccg9opnsvu/AAANth50j9N_AJMVN2ykjfJua?dl=0 I use it with the Taylor IR that has the shure mic, I think it sounds pretty good, it is fuller with the neck puckup but also good with both and bridge alone... I have an emg 81 and 89 in the guitar I use with it. I can't wait to try some of these posted here with it to.

I have posted some work arounds that seem to have gotten over looked because the don't include the patch change, I spent over an hour taking 2 of the OP's patches and making it one, I know its not a fix but it is a "work around" for the time being, maybe a second look at the single patch per song thing is worth another try and can be fezeable for now, I am in no way trying to push the issue at hand under the rug, I haven't had any time lately so I've not been here or had time to mess with patches, I would like to make a suggestion though, GET Creative!!! has any one tried to use a few different tone stacks and overdrives together to achieve a 4, 5, or 6 tone preset?? Remember I am not trying to say don't fix the latency issue just want to help till it's addressed. Some of you should post some (4 or 5) of the presets that are in question and give some of us a chance to try and help consolidate the tones until the fix is in.
-
Hey look at me I didn't read the other 97 post but I just wanted to know if there is any sign of the tone match feature in the editor that was either discussed or otherwise just curious I haven't had much time to fiddle with it

Well maybe is not a dead horse but it is definitely not the elephant in the room they're well aware of the problem they are probably working on it right now and I'm sure as you said the bread crumbs that DI has dropped... they have a policy not to reveal anything before they release it so that being said the elephant I'm sure is being pushed out the room as we speak Is just that this is been gone over in so many threads so many times it is quite like beating the dead horse if people would just search a little more they would see it has been discussed maybe they should just add onto those other threads instead of going over and over the same thing on new threads every week
-
Oh yes... LOL The Axe Trolls Beating Yet Another DEAD Horse!
-
Please folks do a little more searching of the forum before starting a new thread on the same thing we just went over last week... and we continue to beat the dead horse.... all the questions here have been answered many times

OK Can We then focus on a "optional" mode for the helix say one that will be limited to One chip, two paths using one shark for DSP and the other for "spill over" or what ever you want to call it and the "set list" be a sort of road map that one would line up there "way points" (presets) so that the fallowing preset could be preloaded in the freed up DSP chip ready for seamless switch over then the next preset in the set list preloaded in the then freed up DSP chip and so on and so on..... and the other mode the current version??? Some how if it is possible I don't think they will be happy with that either... and wile your at it Scrap the design for the helix 2 and make it with 10 DSP chips so 5 can be used for the preset and 5 could be used for the "spill over" or seamless switching... dang you should have made it with 6 each hold it 7 no 8 uh 9... might as well be 50 each yeah 50 arrgh 100... see where this is going? that is why I replied " Helix just might NOT be for you" and for the rest of us I will say thank you DI and Line 6 for such an innovative, intuitive and easy to use enjoyable unit!!! I love it!!! any improvements in it are welcome and added features, amps and FX are icing on the cake... thank you for your Hard work!!! I was serious about the 2 mode idea though :P If it would be doable in firmware of course. PS The Editor is the BOMB!!! but the graphix could be better  .... really functionality is more important than how pretty it is.

The preset is just what you had so all you have to do is hit the "clean" toggle and it is the clean sound you had with the option you had for distortion and the same for the distortion preset you had with the option for the distortion peddle you had, essentially 4 toggles in one preset instead of 2 toggles and 2 presets there was another distortion peddle in the one preset but it was bypassed and had no toggle assigned so I left it out. So this will (should) work for the one issue you had, but I understand the problem you sighted about more complex presets and the tap dance I have the same issue so I came up with a work around for the moment, my 11 rack had the same issue but I had no option for the second amp so I am delighted to have the 4 path option I always tried to nail the pre-switching thing and must say I was about 50% or less at getting it on the beat so the way I do it for the moment is leaps and bounds ahead of what I am used to... just trying to help That is why I said in my original comment to your post "Helix just might not be the MFX for you" I am sure that the value of the Helix is not dropped so much that you could not get 90+% of what you spent on it and cut your losses instead of dealing with the stress that you are putting yourself though.

I tried them and it is quite a quick drop out between presets, is it noticeable yes, horrible not really IMHO. that said I managed to do this. see if you like it. I messed with your two presets and got them to pretty much fit on one preset and keep them the same and made the toggles swap tones https://www.dropbox.com/s/c97vx10yzanpcu9/Clnfndr-Dist.hlx?dl=0 well it was worth a try, let me know if that will get you by.... Oh you will have to re-assign the IR's because I didn't use the same # positions. Here is another preset I made and there are 2 IR's 1 is the Taylor acoustic that has been floating around and the other is one I made with the redwires IRMIX II program from free IR's I have found around the net (so I figure there OK to share) the Taylor (@#6) goes on the top path and the other goes in the bottom path (@#7) https://www.dropbox.com/sh/hk7i66s4luyym36/AABA5al160VMtvrD2fdkBEzZa?dl=0

DI already stated before it would take 2 more DSP chips to do a completely seamless change and those 2 extra chips would add a lot more cost to the unit. Really though if you were using an amp and a peddle board you would have less that the helix provides IMHO... even if you had 2 amps 2 pedal boards and an a,b switch you would still be limited to what they could do and you would have spent a whole lot more money (and your back would be killing you). The 2 path setup is quite cool I think and has a ton of possibilities. As stated before by many here this is something that all (with one exception) MFX units suffer from. DI also made a point that "the more complex the preset the longer it would take to load", so maybe spreading the blocks out some between the 2 paths and simplifying the preset by splitting one into two presets they would load a lot faster.
-
That sounds like its right up my ally... would you care to share?
-
OK... Sorry if I am so cynical, but as I posted before we have been down this path in many other threads and with the OP refuting every good work around that the other users throw out and some of your responses have been exactly like those. The guys here have helped me out a lot and it seemed to me that you were not going to be satisfied with any type of fix that was proposed to you. Please share 2 presets you have made and the names of the Ownhammer IR's I have a bunch of them... and all the Redwires and the MixIRII program. Both Redwires and Ownhamer have freebies IR's they allow for download so others could try them as well. I don't care if other people don't agree... It's just that people are here to help and we have delt with some trolling here and frankly your posts sounded a lot like them. I am truly sorry. BTW nice lookin' guitar
-
I smell a Rat... (or should I say a axe fx Troll...) <_< Look guys, the ones that do this all the time always have a low # of posts... they most likely don't even have a Helix or haven't even seen one except in pictures.... and this is the only thing they can harp on?!?!? I say I am glad I spent $1500 less on a unit that is on par with the "Cliff Box".... I think it is hilarious that they come here to troll, I have never went to the "cliff town forum" and don't even care... B) The fact of the matter is these guys don't really want any help they just want to knock the competition, so lets just move on and answer some real questions that the good folks that have a Helix are needing help with. ;)
-
As you have seen we have been down this path many times and on many threads... That said there is not much much more that can be added at this point. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to be nasty.... but this might just not be the unit for you. Am I saying that in the future that there may not be a work around for this...No. I love my Helix and I to am a singer/guitarist also and have found something that works for me until then.
