May be been given a returned unit, when buying new, at Pittsburgh Guitar Center

That a thread makes a corkscrew turn surprises you? :-) As I noted elsewhere, not a fan of the Prez, but when questioned about not paying enough taxes he said (paraphrased): "I didn't make the tax laws, I'm just taking advantage of them. I'd be a fool not to! If you don't like it, change the laws!". Not, apparently, an unusual (or illegal) attitude. -
Globals/Footswitches/Stomp Mode Switches. Choose 8 or 10. Same place it's always been.

Not a fan of the Prez, but when hassled about not paying enough tax he basically said "I didn't make the tax laws. If you don't like it, change the laws!" EDIT: Corporations don't pay income tax. Income taxes are non tax deductible operating expenses that get factored into the price that consumers pay for their products. Only individual tax payers pay taxes. Trucking companies deal with something called IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement). They're required to report how many miles each truck drives in each state/country. The feds collect the tax at the the pump, then divvy it up accordingly. Yes, it's a ROYAL PITA! It's usually put on the driver to keep track, and when I was driving I HATED it! Fact is, it's a minor annoyance for a corporation to have to keep a database of each state's sales tax (it's downloadable). It's not at all difficult to write software to add tax to an invoice based on that data (as mentioned elsewhere, I was doing it 20 years ago). At the end of the year, the company cuts 50 checks. Companies that complain how tough it would be are full of it. Politicians and libertarian types who claim that it would drive businesses off-shore are either ignorant or dishonest. Oh, right, that's the definition of politician. -

Personal story. I recently did a fly-gig in Michigan (family event). UAL made it impossible to even bring my Steinberger so, since the GC was 5 minutes from the airport, I rented a guitar. $70 for the weekend, for a Mexi Squier Strat. I was told it would be an H-S-S model, which was perfect. I told them I didn't want to get there and have them pull something off the wall that hadn't even been set up. I was ASSURED that these were rental units that were regularly re-strung and set up. I said "yeah, but can you have a tech check it out for me anyway?" and he reluctantly agreed. I get there, there's no such instrument, the guy (different guy) pulls one (S-S-S) off the wall. I noticed that the trem arm's hole was open, which pretty much guarantees that the little bitty tension spring is gone. I pointed it out to the guy, who had no clue what I was talking about! It's a STRAT for heaven's sake. If you don't know about STRATs......... I didn't have time to hassle over it, so I just took it and made due. This morning, I received a feedback request from GC about my rental. Boy, did they ever get feedback! -
Did you do a factory REset, or just restore the factory PREsets?

Even when they try to make something right, they wind up kicking themselves in the butt! I worked at GC SF for 6 months in the early 1980's. They had 3 managers in that time, and one of the assistant managers was arrested for stealing. Very sad! -

Some of us are just more vocal about it than others ;-) I'm not sure what you strongly disagree with here. That the world would be a better place if all capitalists were ethical? Or that I compared it to the ignorance and hypocrisy of consumers regarding basic economics? The "smash and grab" reference was, admittedly, hyperbole. It was late and I was cranky. But surely, you can't deny that MANY people have that attitude in some degree or other? Obviously, this is the point where we should "agree to disagree" and get on with our lives. Peace! :-) -

I grew up on Staten Island. When the pollution from NJ blows in across the dumps on the Kill Van Kull....... -
My previous post assumes that you've done all this (but don't remember for sure). If not, then this is what you need to do first. I'm sure that tech support will say the same.
-
I know that feeling! At this point I only see two choices: Call tech support and see what they say. Another user with problems said that they had him delete a bunch of stuff that the uninstall didn't catch, and it solved his problem. I know you don't want to do it, but it's Windows. Sometimes it just gets hosed so bad that nothing but a fresh install will do.

I don't need to judge you. Your rant said everything about you that needs to be said. Justify yourself anyway you like. Do I need to remind you that it was only a couple of years ago that everyone was speculating on how long it would be before GC was in bankruptcy? Did you read the article I referenced? No, you didn't even look for it, because you don't care about anything but what YOU want. If anyone dared tell you that your work wasn't worth a third what you were asking you'd pitch a fit. It's a really safe bet in some circles to make whatever claims against the filthy capitalists that it takes to justify taking whatever you want to take from them. Smash that window and TAKE that TV! Filthy capitalists don't even pay their fair share of taxes! But isn't this you trying to justify not paying your fair share? Oh, wait, that's just me, being pretentious. Nobody likes paying taxes. Everybody wants the best deal they can get. The world would be a better place if all capitalists were ethical in their business practices. It would also be a better place if consumers understood that their jobs depend on their employer's profits, and that one man's rip-off capitalist is possibly his neighbor's employer. "Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die...." And that's my rant for today! -
Unless it's totally trashed, you can't go wrong for $100.

Like I said, unless your state doesn't require you to declare untaxed online purchases (Colorado does require that), you're still going to have to pay that tax or risk audit. Also, I didn't know you were a socialist who believes that he has the right to determine someone else's profit margin. There's a pretty good article over on Harmony Central that summarizes just how much it costs to run a brick and mortar store, and how slim the margins really are. EDIT: and while I know it's hard to believe, there ARE honest businesses and business-people. -

I'm not sure how it works. Some online vendors add tax, some don't. I think it's moving towards standardizing on vendors charging the tax (as it should be IMO), but compliance deadlines may vary by state. IDK. Politics probably. It's not a big deal to implement in software, I was doing it in 1998 in SW I wrote for a small company that rented vacation properties nationally. Unless of course the SW was poorly written in the first place, not allowing for mods. -

If he's price matching, he's probably assuming that you'll be paying that tax on your online purchase. Further lowering the price by eating the tax gives you a BETTER price than online. He's not losing sleep because he's laughing at the guy who assumes he'll never be audited for unpaid taxes on their online purchases. Unless, as I said, you're living in a state that doesn't (yet) require that you pay those taxes......... -

Large brick & mortar stores like GC will almost always price match an online dealer. However, you stlll have to add sales tax which, depending on your state, you're legally required to pay at tax time anyway if you buy online. -
Native is a VST plugin. It doesn't run stand-alone, it requires a DAW or other VST Host. Make sure that HX Edit is the same version as the Helix. If HELIX is on 2.6, that would explain why HXEdit works up to 2.6. Since the computer is a desktop, make sure you're connected to one of the rear USB ports, as the front ports are actually a hub (usually). Check in Device Manager to make sure that the computer sees the Helix. Why do you suspect the L6 Login?

Probably a corrupt preset. Export your setlists one by one till an export fails. Export the presets in that setlist in small batches till you find the offender. Delete that preset and try the backup again.

All lights functional here. Factory reset?

IF after reading the list of FIXES, something you deem critical to your situation was fixed AND after reading the list of known issues there's nothing that's a show stopper for you AND you don't have a career make-it-or-break-it gig in two hours THEN update NOW ELSE wait for 2.82 END IF :-)

Updated Native on both devices. All appears to be well! Entering test portion of update. This will take a while. If I survive, I'll report back. If you don't hear from me, it's probably because I'm having too much fun playing......
-
Floor update complete! Total elapsed time to update two devices <30 minutes including reading release notes and nervously slurping coffee. Everything appears to be working. About to update Native.
-
Stomp update accomplished. Appears to be successful (no smoke escaping from Stomp. Moving to the Studio (my Living Room) to update Floor.
-
OMG! Just read the release notes. There are WHOLE SENTENCES and ENTIRE PARAGRAPHS of instructions! All over the earth people's heads are exploding! OK, who's going to be the first to BOLDLY go forth with this update? All right, I'm bored. I'll volunteer. I haven't created any significant new presets since 2.8, so I'm not even going to back up. Turning OFF my devices. Closing all apps, especially L6 and other audio apps. Here I go! Wish me luck! I'm stepping out of the capsule.....

Glad I could help. My family is from Northern Italy, so who knows, maybe when I win the lottery! Me too. That's a tip I got from a Jason Sadites video. No. If you go over to Ideascale (https://line6.ideascale.com/) and do a search for CS3, I'm pretty sure it's been requested, and you can vote for it!
