Baffled me, too. Thought it was the Helix. Went out and got a PitchFork. Same! Everybody kept telling me I was hearing (even FEELING) the sound of the naked guitar. Finally, I ran it through closed-back headphones, volume UP. Sure enough, when I couldn't hear the actual string, I realized they were right! On stage, with stage volume levels, probably wouldn't have been able to hear it, but at home studio levels it made using a pitch shifter simply annoying. Even with the headphones, at reasonable levels, I can FEEL the original tone vibrating in the guitar's body!

Replace "H9" with "Strymon" If you want the H9 to RECEIVE on the Helix Base Channel (default CH1), go into GLOBAL/MIDI and set MIDI PC SEND to OFF. That prevents Helix from sending the default PC# for that Helix Preset, and sends ONLY the PC# you set in Command Center as an Instant Message (don't forget to save the preset!). OR Set the H9 to receive on a different channel than the Helix Base Channel, and set the Instant Message PC# to send on that channel. ex: if Helix Base Channel = CH1, then set H9 to receive on CH2 and Instant message to send on CH2.

Actually, unbalanced cables are TS (tip/sleeve). BALANCED cables are TRS. I don't think it matters, TRS would work, but they generally cost more.

The Helix 1/4" outs aren't balanced (owners manual, page 7, back panel). That only matters with really long (20'+) cable runs. Under 20' you can use either.

IF this is how it's set up AND you've swapped out cables (all should be shielded/instrument cables) AND the amp and Helix are being powered from the same source THEN maybe you should open a support ticket?

Read the file "READ ME FIRST!!!" that's included with the Big Pack. "To make things simpler for most Helix users, I didn't put my user IRs at the beginning of the cab bank, but from 074 to 098." That means that you need to load the IRs (which are always WAV files) in those numbered locations.

As a test, try sending your MSB/LSB/PC directly from the Helix to your Beat Buddy. Use a MIDI monitor on your PC to be sure the Helix is sending correctly. If the BankChange/PC works that way, then you may be right about the Helix not passing the full message, and you'll need to open a support ticket. If it doesn't work, but Helix is sending the correct messages, then it could be a timing problem. I found that sending MSB/LSB/PC TO the Helix from a FCB1010 had the problem you described, PC works but no Bank Change, but sending the same messages to a SoftSynth worked fine.

The question has already been answered. To clarify - the soundcard in the HD500 is the Line6 HD500. The closest comparison is the Line6 HD500. Only Line6 knows what chips are in it, and they're not talking! Alternatives have been recommended. Links have been provided. Google "AD/DA" for more.

Try it WITH the IRs. Try it WITHOUT the IRs. Try replacing the amp with the corresponding Preamp. Any way you go, the Fremen presets are optimized to sound good with his custom IRs thru a FRFR rig. They aren't going to sound the same thru the HT40 (I had one, and an Engl). You WILL end up tweaking A LOT.

Don't buy it just to use as a soundcard. For $500, there are SOOO many better options out there. A 2nd gen Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 is $500. Better preamps, less latency, more ins/outs, MIDI. The 2i4 model is $200, has MIDI, too. I'm sure that this thread is about to be filled with recommendations from others along the same lines, only specifying their own favorites. If, however, you want a budget hardware based amp modeler that doubles as a soundcard, and can't afford a Helix, then an HD500X is not a bad option.

DunedinDragon nailed it. As for the balanced/unbalanced thing, unless your monitors are more than 20' away, noise won't be an issue.

You CAN assign the signal that you've assigned to 1/4" outs in your preset to the PHYSICAL Phones out jack, which level is set by the Phones KNOB. That would allow you to, for instance, assign different EQs and/or cabs to the FOH (XLRs and VOLUME KNOB) than to the 1/4" outs (Phones out and Phones Knob). "The phones output is not quite suited for connecting live monitors though" Why not?

The Global settings control what signal goes to which physical output. The VOLUME knob can be set to control the level of any and all signals to any and all outputs EXCEPT Phones. When you assign a signal to the PHONES knob, that is the signal that comes out of the PHYSICAL Phones output. At home, I'm using the 1/4" out in 4 cable mode with my tube amp to set up presets for that configuration. I send the PHYSICAL XLR out to my powered speaker (across the room) to monitor presets for that configuration, with VOLUME KNOB CONTROLS set to XLR only. I send the same XLR signal to the PHONES output (HEADPHONES MONITOR), which goes to the board - in this case the board is the Focusrite interface to my DAW. The point is, if you need to set separate levels for monitors and FOH, one of those signals needs to come from the PHYSICAL Phones jack in order for it to be controlled by the Phones knob. If you want to use the PHYSICAL XLR Outs for FOH, set VOLUME KNOB CONTROLS to XLR. Then use the PHYSICAL Phones Out for your monitor. If your Presets' Output is set to Multi, it shouldn't matter whether you set HEADPHONES MONITOR to XLR or 1/4".

In fact it doesn't load or change anything on the H9." The way you've got it set up, an external MIDI controller can be used to bypass the Helix effects loop by sending CC#98 to the Helix. To do that, just assign a Helix footswitch to bypass the effects loop. But that won't get you what you're after. The way this works is that the H9 AUDIO IN/OUT is in the effects loop, and a MIDI cable is connected between the Helix and the H9. When you select the Helix preset with a PC# (NOT CC#!) assigned to an Instant Message (lightning bolt in Command Center) set to the same MIDI channel that the H9 is set to receive on, that PC# is sent over the MIDI cable to the H9, selecting the corresponding H9 preset. The AUDIO signal passes thru the Helix Effects Send to the H9, is processed by the specified H9 preset, then returns to the Helix thru the Effects Return. The H9 preset doesn't load into the footswitch, the footswitch (Helix preset selection with Instant Message) just tells the H9 what H9 preset to use to process the AUDIO passing thru it from/to the Helix effects loop. If you set it up per my previous directions, the Helix, on preset selection, will send the PC# you specified, on the channel that the H9 is configured to receive on. It will also send CC#61 which as far as I can tell, when received by the Helix stops the looper. No idea why it would SEND that, but it doesn't affect what you're trying to do. If all is as above and it's still not working, you should verify that the Helix is sending the proper messages with a MIDI Monitor such as MIDIOX (if you're using Windows, I forget what it's called in MAC world). Assuming that you're using standard 5pin MIDI cables to connect the H9 to the Helix, you'll need to be sure that the Helix is set up in Global to send MIDI over USB (connect Helix USB to computer to use the MIDI Monitor). I hope that's all coherent and understandable, it's late, time for me to sleep. Get back to me if it's nstill not clear.

Line6Will posted: Don't do anything! It auto calibrates. If you're having trouble getting the pedal to stay at 0% it might be due to the tension being too loose. Try tightening it with the provided hex wrench.

"Guitar > External Amp In > Cab clone Line Out > Helix Aux In > Helix XLR Out" Why are you taking the line out from the Orange BACK into the Helix Aux In? If the Helix input is set to Multi, there's your feedback loop.

Just started using Reaper (Sonar orphan). Same configuration (i7, W10) as my previous post. Added 3 instances of Native with factory hi-gain presets to project using S-Gear, DPro (2 instances), EZKeys and EZDrummer. CPU went from 4.5 to 10 max (fluctuates between 6-10). People's results seem to be all over the place on this. This thread is going on 4 months old, be nice to hear from somebody official on this. DI?
