yamaha got into the Pro Audio business when project studios started using ns10s to check mixes on a consumer speaker. It was picked up by home studios but somewhere along the way the purpose of having them got lost and they were used to mix actual mixes on rather then used to check a mix for consumer speaker comparability. They had a musical instrument line as well as mainly consumer electronics as I remember. I think they are a stable corporation

The Pro is probably arrived at from Pro audio. Professional Audio; a purchaser of, also known as a Prosumer. The better gear used by a Commercial or Project Studio and even a home recording musician is Pro Audio. Pro Audio ranges from anything that is rack mountable for use live or in a studio. And there is plenty of cheap rack devices to high end expensive equipment. The HDPRO is intended as a rack mountable device for use in a studio. It is directly competing with Eleven Rack, Fractal's AxeII and the KPA.

Compared to Mackie and a few others it is way less. Don't know any standalone recorder that has automated faders except an old AkaiDPS. It is true is adds to the cost of your DAW and computer and interface.

Apart from the promo video and NAMM promo didn't know much about AMPLFi Anyway, Clever idea! Great for the newcomer and even as a tool for anyone.

I like Green bean stir fry as it is quicker to make. There have been plenty of threads that deserved an answer or official response from Line 6. Anyway I banned em so I know now there won't even be a possibility of a response. LOLOL I did put in the ideas scale thingy of a DSP module that could store and / or augment memory and processing power. HD Ultimate I think I called it to expand the current line using the Dlink. Selling it making it a worthwhile endeavor for Line 6. Right now I like the HD500 as it is despite its shortcomings which aren't too bad in the overall scheme.

I have it or a el cheapo Korg tuner. True the scale is a little slight on HD but it is fine. I can do intonation with it or the Korg. A strobe tuner would be a luxury for me but they are the best,especially for setups.

Most likely it is to save the pre being used without a load which will ruin it. I don't know how it saves it when power amp in being used. Usually you find only an ext speaker jack in all but the better units. If it is homemade then there will be a place to tap into the pre as a send. You could get the maker to put this in. You can still go in from the HD selecting "combo" in the menu and rolling off alot of top end and not selecting or turning off amp model in the HD.. Consider the HD a pedalboard into the amp and tweak till pleased. If you get the send installed into the amp then you get the best of both worlds using the 4CM.

When the guitars are heavily distorted this is true it is hard to discern the mic'd up clipped amp compared to a model of it in a mix but it is different. I can hear it as a lacking depth when simulated. There is something about a amp pushing air and that pushed air being captured by a mic. admittedly the mic diaphram is about the size of a dime and is picking up only a portion of the air being pushed but there is a difference. There is more depth with a mic'd amp where the soft sims sound flat and two dimensional. The HD modeling is a step up from soft sims to my ears and only the cleaner tones let the side down in depth. It is also true that a great amp badly mic'd can sound lollipope too. Now if you mic an amp being fed by a model amp it'l have that pushing air tone to it. Do try it. compare a sim to the HD model's to a mic amp via a HD model. It doesn't have to be scientific but try to get the best results you can from each set up of the same material using different tracks and then toggle between the three.

What you are doing can work, just like plugging a pedal before an amp except the HD has a pre amp before the pedals. Which makes two pre amps at work which can add noise and effect response. Ideally you only need one pre amp. Do try out the 4CM for ultimate options. You can choose one or the other but not both. The way you are doing it is also fine as some combos don't have send returns on the amps and you can choose in the menu Direct or combo. Combo works closer to studio direct if you roll off lots of top end down the to mids and a few db off the bottem.

Yeah, you get the 99 FX plus the Amp modeling. I think the HD500 is worth it just for the amp modelling. But to answer the OP's question; It depends upon what you want to play mostly. Simply, If you want to play standard covers the HDPRO will do the job. If you want to do covers or material like Muse the HDPROX will be best. Both have an advantage over the floorboard HDs in that you can keep your cabling shorter and closer to the amps if you are using them and run midi controllers on stage. If you are going straight into the PA well it doesn't matter either iether. The HDPRO's have a DI out for recording a dry out. I don't think there is a reamp input. They also record a Dry or Wet out via the spdif as do the HD500s.

LOLOL Paul Pesco's clean sound in the earlier clip was pretty good from the Live XT. I got no doubt the HD's can do distorted amps and FX well, it is the clean tones that tell the tale and some cleaner amp players feel it falls short. But you know, if you really get to tweaking the parameters of the amp it can sound acceptable.

Here is another reason. A confession if you will. I started playing guitar when amps were solid state. It was many a year before I noticed that those expensive amps were tube amps. And while I palyed into a few mates tube amps the differences escaped me at the time. Then I got a Yamaha multi FX 500 to record int my Tascam 244. It gort more use than my amp as I could play anytime with h'phones. Then I got into computer recording and along came Amplitude and Revalver. But a freind playing thru his marshal live really had me wanting that tube tone. I wanted a unit that could be used for live and recording and got the HD500. I tried it out and I like the feel response and the tone. Then I got interested in tube amps and picked up a Peavy Royal 8 and it enhance the experience somewhat going from the HD500. I got a numbve rof live option for the HD500. At home I record musical ideas mostly for fun and the HD500 gets plenty of use. I still haven't mastered it either. The only thing I do not like is the click the foot switches make, even while playing live the click is audible it is very annoying when recording along with vocals. Oh yeah the other reason. The modeliing is good enough to get you interested in the actual amps modeled. I believe more than a few have been lured to the real thing and see the HD modeling as inferior now.

It is very true the real guitar amp is the combo of the player, guitar, amp and room. some rooms suck no matter how good the amp. To a degree if the modeling or profile snapshot is of the close mic'd amp then realistically it'l sound similar to the amp'd mic'd thru the PA. To me it is unfair to compare the amp modelling compared to the real amp. It should be the real amp compared to the mic'd amp thru the same PA. If you monitor on stage with a real amp then it gets closer. If you have the real amps and can lug them in and out then use the real amps as you are getting paid. I totally agree that the modelling doesn't compare in the response dept even if close in tone. And that responsiveness is a big deal if you have used great valve amps. To me it is like the difference between a scooter and a motorbike. You can have a lot of fun on a vespa but it aint for racing.

On the why the amp and pedalboard settings sounded great last night. Apart from the stimulants there is a well known and highly desirable tone from an overheating tube amp. Apart from recent amp desgins in the older designs the hotter the amp ran the better the tone and output. Anyway you've all heard the story of the messa tone of heaven as it cooked. This is so well known most guitarists who can afford a Tech have highly modified amps so that they do indeed run a little hotter. These profile snapshots of amps I hope have it all up running hot. As a multi FX device go in the HD's FX receive and it's Mono out to Amps FX loop return, You can put the loop return block at the beginning of the chain to fit numerous FX within the POD HD. I wouldn't go guitar in as you already have a preamp with your guitar going into your amp first.

While the custom tones are good and some great how they are set up can differ and play havoc with your levels from patch to patch. If you really want to hear how good the amp modelling is just load a amp model and tweak ever so it to your liking to suit your guitar. Go deeper and get a feel for the response using bias etc. You got to hand it to Line 6 for a pretty darn good effort. Different guitars, even pickup brands and types can sound totally different and be a source of WTF when tayloring your own tones. Glad you got it dusted off and are enjoying a great sounding value for money toolbox that is the HD500.
