Thanks! Glad you like it. Another somewhat interesting effect I've been experimenting with is the auto-volume under the delay effects.

Do you have problems with any other usb devices? Also, the usb port (the physical connector) is known to be fragile on the hd500/hd500x. Perhaps a loose or intermittent connection? Another thing you mentioned is your device being recognized as an hd500. Have you ever had an hd500 installed on this laptop? And in device manager, when looking at the details tab on the properties for the hd500 (incorrectly identified), then under the property dropdown list, the hardware Ids should read: USB\VID_0E41&PID_4159&REV_0000 for an hd500x. An hd500 is: USB\VID_0E41&PID_414D&REV_0000 Sorry to say it's looking more and more like something is wrong physically on the hd500x specifically relating to the usb circuitry.

Sure this is possible. Here's a preset. The state of the footswitch light (fs8) is determined by which fx is first in the chain. wah-vol-tog.zip

Like I said, not exactly sure what that does (if Digital_Igloo is reading this thread, he might be able to shed some light on this), but I'm guessing it does some sort of integrity check on the actual ics. A global reset is done by holding the left arrow while powering on. I would try this first. Doing this also requires the exp pedal to be recalibrated. Reflash the firmware using line 6 monkey by highlighting 'flash memory' under 'device firmware'. I'm not sure what this will do in your case as there is question mark by this item. As well as the 'usb firmware' item (which you might also try 'reinstall lastest') . Download the latest firmware from the line 6 website and then choose to 'update from file' if it will let you (I don't think you can do this for the 'usb firmware' though). If any of the above is a no go, power on the device while holding the down arrow. A screen should appear saying Update Flash. Again try updating using line 6 monkey. Maybe this mode on the device is more of a forced type of update? I suspect nothing different will happen though. This mode might even require some sort of specialized software.

Something seems wrong, obviously. I ran line 6 monkey on my hd500x, looked at the log file it generated and don't see any of the errors that you're getting: As far as the line 6 license manager, I don't see any useful purpose for that program. I suspect it might be used more for their software only products. So I wouldn't worry about that. Have you tried to reflash the firmware and do a global reset of the device? Or, power on the device while holding the right arrow button. Then using the down arrow button select the 'flash' item, then press view. I'm not exactly certain what this does, but on my device the screen changes to one where 'Flash' is displayed on top of the screen, then quickly goes back to where you were with a 'P' displayed after the 'flash' item. Same thing that happens after calibrating the exp pedal. Some sort of internal diagnostic maybe? Try the same thing with with 'sdram' item too.

I think you pretty well summed this up right here. You seem to know what goes on in a windows operating system (xp isn't really that much different than win7). My guess would be something messed up with the registry, specifically relating to line6 money (unlikely, because line6 money can be run without actually installing the program) or drivers (likely). My suggestion would be to search the registry for everything relating to line 6 (using various keywords, filenames, directory paths, etc.) and delete them (disclaimer: don't do this if you're not comfortable with it). Try not to use these 'registry cleaners'. Who knows what these things do really. I use a program called registry workshop. For some entries relating to drivers you might have to add permissions to be able to change or delete them. Registry workshop can do this. Another thing to try is setting the environment variable 'DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1' and in device manager select view/show hidden devices and uninstall the line 6 drivers and check 'delete driver software for this device'.

Here's a setlist of bass patches for the hd500 I found on this forum, put together and made by Ed_Saxman. Might find something useful in there. Bass Amps v3 Ed Saxman 16-Jan-2013.zip

I was in pretty much in the same boat as pianoguyy. Probably still am somewhat. I use a 5 string Ibanez SR305 with a pick. I gotta say, trying to dial in a sound for a bass is the hardest thing I've done with an hd500/hd500x. I've lost count of the number useless tweaking sessions. Not to discourage you or anything like that, but just be aware. Maybe it's me. And you'll find making a bass tone simple. As far a settings/effects, just experiment. There is no right or wrong way to do things. In fact, many times the thing that sounds best is something completely unintuitive and would never work in the real world with real equipment. Trust your ears and what you hear inside you head. Patches I've created bass on the hd500x ended up using a dual amp/cab (flip top/tweed b-man nrm, flip top 47 cond/tread v-30 409 dyn). I used four eqs before the amps (3 studio and 1 parametric; for guitar tones I try and stay away from eqs, but with bass I just couldn't), a tube comp before the amp and after the eqs, and a chamber reverb after the mixer. Pretty basic stuff I guess.

I use a Tron Up in two of my songs: Radiative Embrace and Entropy. The Tron Up doesn't start until 1:24 in Radiative Embrace and it's used throughout in Entropy. I also link the exp pedal to the effect to control the mix. Love the sound of the Tron Up. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. I've attached the patch I used in both these songs. In Entropy a reverse delay is used as well. Have fun! Note this patch is for the HD500X. Lead-1-7-4-45.zip

I can't see the video. It says it's private. Is it just stuck in a reboot loop? The line 6 logo appears, then disappears, then appears, then disappears, etc.? I've had that happen a few times to an hd500 (I think as a result of using hdedit and adjusting things on the unit itself) but the left arrow thing always worked. If the left or right arrow doesn't work for you, I'm out of suggestions other than getting it serviced by a line 6 repair center. It sure does suck when technology craps out on you at the most inopportune time. :(
-
You could also try holding the right arrow while powering on. Should bring up a utility type screen for calibrating the exp pedal. Another option on this screen is flash. I'm not exactly certain what all the options do (perhaps Digital_Igloo could chime in), but if you select 'flash' using the down arrow key, then the 'view' button, I suspect it does some sort of diagnostic on the flash memory. When this is done on a working unit it puts a 'P' after the flash option. Same thing with the sdram option. But if you can get the unit to this utility screen, you could try reflashing using the Line 6 Monkey program. One last note before you try all this: unplug everything from the unit, except obviously the power cable. I remember reading on this forum that someone with a similar problem got his unit working again after unplugging everything.

I remember I was able to consistently reproduce a BSOD with reaper and an hd500. It was a long time ago and I don't remember exactly what the problem was, but it had to do with turning the hd500 off while reaper was still open. As simple as that. The solution was, if I remember right, an audio device setting buried somewhere in the options. Whether or not this helps the original poster, I don't know. But you could check some the options within reaper; there are a lot of them.

Well that's odd. It shouldn't do that. What happens when you press the knob below the save button? It should go to the setlist screen.
-
When you press the save button it should bring up the 'save preset' screen, and when you press save again it will save it and the asterisk will be gone. But I wouldn't worry too much about the asterisk. It will appear if you toggle an effect, move the exp pedal, or just about anything. But if you press save and nothing happens, something is wrong. Perhaps it's the button itself? Something caught underneath?

I'll echo the above two posts about being able to create profiles. Perhaps even multi-level; have profiles for block-level and profiles for patch-level. Also the ability to use (as Rewolf48 suggests) dual cabs without using dual amps. And absolutely no iOS only requirement. Moving farther in the future, the ideal interface would be direct brain to parameter manipulation. :o This sort of technology already exists. Maybe something to look into? Just kidding.
-
You can use the up and down arrows now with hd edit, but you have to select the control with the mouse first.
-
I'm not sure because I've never used an AMPLIFI and don't know what it's like at all other than that the remote interface is wireless (tablet)? I personally would find a wireless interface on par or maybe slightly better than a mouse/keyboard. I'm also one of those people (a minority for sure but probably not alone either) that when I'm narrowing in on a tone, I keep at it for a long, long time, trying many if not all combinations of parameters, but never quite being satisfied. A tweaking nightmare. This is where the mouse (and I suspect a tablet interface) becomes a bit annoying. They are too slow and require sight. A simple keyboard only control is quicker in most cases and can be done by feel. Only in this situation does the interface impede. In most other situations, it's fine. I guess it would boil down to how many people are like me and let the tweaking take over. I really should learn to control the tweaking, not the tweaking control me. Better solution.
-
I've never noticed this. Could be useful. I'll have to try picking up this habit. But you still have to place the mouse over the control. Being able to make keyboard shortcuts would be really useful. Maybe some future products will have this. Can only hope I guiess.

I second the idea of improving HD Edit. There's a lot that could be done in terms of useability and workflow. Some might say be glad that Line 6 has a program at all and that it's better than nothing. That might be true, but to do such a good job on the unit itself (for most aspects) and then do a not so good job on the rest of it in a digital age where stuff like this should really be a basic given doesn't sit well. On the other hand, if you only use the unit for playing live, HD Edit probably isn't much of an issue if at all.

Hit the save button on the patch you want to copy. Then use the knobs underneath the screen (1 for setlist and 2 for destination) to select the location for the copy. Then just hit the save button again.

I find that labeling switches is somewhat amusing. I mean a guitarist obviously has no problem memorizing, in many instances, complex compositions but has problems memorizing which footswitch to engage? Is it something along the lines of trying to sing while playing a complex guitar part? Don't get me wrong, I see nothing wrong with wanting to do this, I just find it amusing.
-
Glad to hear you figured it out. Technology can certainly be a wonderful thing. I'm quite satisfied with 500x also. There is a downside though. The more you dig in, the greater the chance of subjecting yourself to hours, days, and weeks of frustration; this kind of depends on your personality. If you're the type that likes to try nearly every possibity (which the 500x supplies in large quantities) be prepared for that.
-
Sure this can be done. Just place one amp in path A and one in path B. Then adjust the mixer pan control for each path to 100%L and 100%R. Keep in mind that each of the two paths are stereo signals. Also make sure there are no mono or summing effects after the mixer block.
-
I doubt something like the edge of the pick is something only in your head. The pick edge can make a huge difference in how any given note sounds. Every guitarist must experience the weirdness of playing. I too have days where I should know better and just set the damn guitar down and be done with it. Bad days are also a good way to pick up bad habits. Other days are, like you said, basically effortless to play.
