On the unit itself there is no 'fast' way to get to where you want. But as you turn the knob, it does seem to have some sort of non-linear response to the knob being turned continually fast, so it doesn't take as long. Or maybe you could try to use the tap tempo feature. Never used this myself, so I'm not sure how exactly it would work for a possible shortcut method.

I read somewhere that the "official" Vai picks are nothing more than Ultex 1.0mm. Not sure if they the sharp kind. I used to use Dunlop Tortex 1.0mm (the blue ones) and recently switched to the Ultex and never even thought about looking back. Not only are they more grippy the I love the attack they produce on the string as compared to the tortex.

Dunlop Ultex 1.14 sharp picks work really well. They last a really long time too. And they have a sticky like grip with a smooth texture.
-
Really like the guitar tone. Some good stuff in the melodies too. Keep working at the fast picking techniques. It does get easier, sometimes. I personally kind of suck at it and it's also one the things that for some reason keeps eluding me. Watch some videos of Guthrie Goven about this. Not only is he a phenomenal guitar player but he's an interesting talking person because of his word and phrase choices. And accent.

Probably something stupid, but the audio cable is connected to the input, not ouput, of the 003 rack? Other than that, you probably know best about what options you can change on the 003 rack via drivers/daw (pro tools?). It might be something buried deep in the preferences. You could also make sure you have the latest drivers for the 003 rack. I think this might be the correct link: 003 Rack Drivers

I remember reading in another post that unplugging everything except the power cable and then holding the left arrow while powering on might work.

Here's a patch that I use for one of my songs that might work or be close as far as wah. It uses a vettah wah in combination with a q-filter with the expression pedal controlling parameters from each. Q-filter: freq, q, and mix. Vettah wah: position and mix. If it doesn't work or comes close, messing about with the exp controller params may get you close or even what you're looking for. Lead-1-7-4-52.zip

For me, it's not just that some use percentages, but most also audibly clip internally way too easy, especially when placed after the amp. One of the better ones is the studio EQ. Too bad it only has two frequencies per block.
-
In the system menu, page 1, (hd500 or hd500x?) there is an on/off setting for trails.
-
The EQs are very annoying; sometimes to the point of intentionally avoiding using them. But the 500X can help with EQs in the sense that they are easier to avoid because of more DSP. More DSP means increasing the possibility of using dual cabs/mics.
-
I'll echo what TheRealZap just said. The 500X is not worth double the 500. However, a 500X can be found new for around 400 - 425 USD (293 - 312 €). I'm not sure if that's true (or can be) in Greece though.

Thanks. Steve Vai sure has a singularity's worth of influence on me. At first it was Joe Satriani because his songs were much easier to just 'listen' to and take in. Mr. Vai's songs take more work, and multiple listenings, to listen to and 'see'. The comment made by Triryche relating to OCD doesn't just extend to setlists (which is probably a reason I have that on my hard drive in the first place) but also to the huge possibilities and flexibility of the POD. Never quite satisfied until nearly all possibilities are explored. Sometimes I have to look at it as a way to increase my tolerance to frustration.
-
I'm assuming you mean my site? Thanks. Continually working on it and never quite being satisfied with most of it though. You probably know what that's like. :) Currently working on a bass part for Early Beginnings as well as a more complicated drum part.

Here's an empty setlist for the hd500x: hd500x.empty.zip

Sounds silently broken. It's definately not on purpose by L6. If you're ambitious, you could try disassembling the unit to get at the switch to see why it's not clicking. It could be something very simple and easy to fix.

Numbers 1 and 2 may be related to number 3. That is, when assigning an exp controller, after you have the correct values you want *(see below for more weird behavior), switch back to the fx tab and select a different effect than what you just assigned to one of the exp controllers. Or if you also have a footswitch assigned to the effect, after adjusting the exp controller parameters, toggle (off then on, or on then off) the footswitch for that effect on the controllers tab, not the unit. It should stick then. I've noticed this behavior before. It's interesting to note that I think it only happens when Edit is actually talking to the unit. If numbers 1 and 2 aren't fixed by the above actions, I don't know what it could be. For number 2, that is definitely not normal. I constantly change things in Edit. With the above exception, I've never had to switch presets to get something to stick. * Another thing to be aware of while adjusting exp parameters on the controllers tab is to use the keyboard arrow keys to adjust the values. If you use the mouse to turn the knob to get the value you want, it won't stick when you switch tabs. You can use the mouse to get close to the value, but end using the keyboard arrow keys.

The list would be everything in the system menu and everything relating to the looper. Can't think of anything else that would be included.
-
That's true about the stuff that isn't in Edit. But then there is the added frustration of editing with both the edit software and the device in the same session. Doing that could likely cause synchronizing issues and eventually having to reflash the firmware and recalibrate.
-
No. In fact, in the situation of the other way around, there is some stuff in the system menu that can't be accessed by the edit software.
-
Keep in mind that placing it before the amp will sound different than placing it after, relating to stereo separation, meaning before the amp, it will have no stereo effect.
-
I can attest to the behavior you're describing, but very rarely and only when switching to a different patch. This could indicate a software (firmware) problem or a hardware timing problem. If it's a hardware timing problem I don't think much could be done without redesigning some circuitry. If it's not a software problem or hardwawre timing problem, then the switches probably have some sort of tolerance and perhaps during the manufacturing process of the switches this tolerance isn't verified very well and some might even be outside of it. Just guessing though. So if you were to get the unit exchanged for another one, perhaps the same thing would occur, or perhaps not. My sense is you'd be engaging in a crap shoot.

I had a 500 (still do, but don't use it) and replaced it with a 500x. When I first got the 500x, while using the same patches from the 500, I thought something sounded different. At first words like fuller, clearer, cleaner, and crisper popped into my head. I never really thought too much about it because the differences were so slight that eventually I chalked it up to my brain playing some sort of trick on me (not nice!). I have since forgotten about this and never investigated the matter further. I don't know if the differences you are hearing could be your brain playing tricks on you? Maybe? Or is it enough for you to say that something really is, not subtly, different? Try and get another person who has the ability to critically listen to hear it. Or if it comes through on a recording, post it somewhere.

I'm not sure about the iPads. Don't have one and never used one. Now that you mention a Windows tablet, that might actually work. HD Edit would run, assuming the tablet is actually running Windows 8.1. And something like a surface pro has a usb host connection I think. I would wonder about how the user interface would function though. It seems to me that HD Edit (windows) was not designed with a touch interface in mind. The OS would probably take care of at least some of the inputs, but many of them are very small and the UI of the program itself doesn't scale.
-
Unfortunately, an application would need to be written which doesn't exist. In addition to that, it probably wouldn't be a simple matter of just connecting the POD to the tablet via usb. I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but nothing exists presently.

Did you try searching 'windows 7 code 37' on google? A bunch of stuff comes up that you could try, hopefully helping you.
