  1. There's probably more than one way to do something like this on Helix. Here's a couple of presets: sound.on.sound.zip The sound on sound preset originally came from forum member Arislaf. Slightly modified by me to use snapshots to change the condition on the particle verb. The second preset, lead pulse, is a sort of variation on this whole idea. I use this preset in my latest song.
  2. I'm glad I somehow wound up using a computer mouse right-handed. I like a lot of buttons on the mouse and left-handed ones with a lot of buttons are very rare. Writing left-handed, one thing I always found annoying in school was notebooks and binders (are these even used anymore?). They seemed somehow backwards some of the time. Either that or the english language was backwards and should've been written from right to left when using these forms of written communication. Top to bottom and front to back are still fine though. I wonder if there's anyone that is truly left-handed only. Most left-handed people, as you point out above, are probably ambidextrous to some degree. Sadly, I've never witnessed right-handed people displaying ambidextrous qualities and are therefore inferior!
  3. Here's what I see happening, and maybe it's correct behavior or not. It doesn't seem correct. Edit a preset and then save it to a new location. When you do this, the preset you just saved is automatically active, so I would assume this is the preset that's recalled upon a power cycle. It is not. The preset that was active immediately before the save procedure is the one that's recalled upon a power cycle. To get it to recall the newly saved/edited preset, you must engage this preset before powering off, even though it's already active. It seems to me that whatever preset I see on Helix's screen should be the one recalled upon power on. I guess this could be considered a bug or a minor oversight.
  4. I can remember numerous times in the past where I'd edit a preset, save it to a different location - sometimes with the same name sometimes not, and continue on. Session done, power off Helix. Next session, turn Helix on and forgetting what I did with the preset in the previous session, I subtly notice something doesn't sound right. It turned out that Helix didn't remember that last preset I was on when Helix was powered off, but instead recalled the non-edited version of the preset. This doesn't happen if you engage the edited preset twice before powering off. I'm not sure, but this might have been fixed recently, that is if this whole thing wasn't an hallucination.
  5. I would assume it's the Chorus block, since that's the only one with a pre-delay parameter. @Ziweh: I tried unsuccessfully getting the behavior you described. I'd try HonestOpinion's suggestion above about the global reset.
  6. You're right, it's this one: http://line6.com/pod20/ins_outs.html After a quick look at the midi continuous controller reference manual, I didn't get the impression that you can morph between two amps.
  7. Please just stay away from any combination that invokes CC128...

    3 OSC Synth

Take a look at post number 3 above by HonestOpinion, which contains some good advice in trying to control this block. Beyond that, you could learn how, technically, a synth produces sounds in general which could give some insight into what the parameters of this block do. Or just experiment with the parameters by changing them and listening to what you hear. Also, as mentioned above by lawrence_Arps above, the intensity with which you strike a note can have a large impact on the final sound.

    Lovin' It

Lol. Or how about an erector set where when you first got it and dumped everything out, a bunch of pieces fell under the bed, where the monsters live, only to be discovered a long time later.
  10. Glad you got it working. You mean the one still sold that's called the Pocket POD? If so, it sure doesn't look like it. In fact, none of these bean-type devices have any midi capabilities.
  11. The pedal itself isn't. But the expression controllers, EXP1 and EXP2, definitely are.
  12. I use Reaper in Windows 10, so sorry I can't help with Cubase 7. But, as long as you have a parameter(s) assigned to an expression controller and want to control that controller via midi, it shouldn't matter what state the onboard pedal is in, so you shouldn't have to worry about toggling the toe switch, unless you want to use the physical onboard pedal. However, for toggling the toe switch, you'll need to use CC59, using any value from 0-127. The value doesn't matter as it's just a toggle. It seems you've pretty much got how this all should work. So if you're using EXP1 to morph between amps (using channel volume from both amps assigned to EXP1), then from Cubase 7 send the HD500X CC1 with values 0-127 (or 127-0), with the values spread out over time, probably 1 sec or less. I imagine that in Cubase 7 you could make your own custom curve too, instead of just sending the data in a linear fashion. And indeed, make sure everything that's communicating is using the same midi channel. I haven't tried any of this with the HD500X I have, but I have done this with my Helix successfully, which is essentially the same for remote control, other than Helix not needing a separate usb-to-midi interface.
  13. The only way to control a block's parameters are to assign the parameter(s) you want to control to one of the expression controllers. Then, for midi control of the expression controllers, you'll want to send CC1 for EXP1 and CC2 for EXP2, with the values going from 0 to 127. What are you using to send midi data to the HD500X, a DAW?
  14. I'm mostly seeing a bunch of wasted space now. Also, the PREV page x of x x x x is in an odd location. They did change something since the default theme is now called 'Line 6 2017'.
  15. Thanks guys. Having never been a fan of Frank Zappa (maybe I should start listening to his work so I can become one :) ) but reading others talk about him (there was a thread in here about him recently) and an awareness of who he is and Steve Vai's involvement with him, I would most definitely take this as not only a compliment, but of the highest order. Thank You.
  16. Thanks guys! :) Haha. I hadn't thought of it exactly like that, controlled chaos, but that's an apt, short description of part of what I was musically going for.
  17. My latest song, and final song, Existence, from my album of the same name. This song wouldn't take the form it does without the existence of Helix. If I had different tools to write it, it would be something completely different, which makes Helix an important part of it, although not the only part. Enjoy and thanks for listening.
  18. There's a lot of really nice tones in there that fit together well. I particularly like the stuff going on in the ending. Is that Helix doing all that? The Archon Clean is great. I've switched my clean tones to this model. It's probably the best one in Helix for what it's supposed to do. Previous to this amp, I was using one of the Fenders, or maybe the Jazz Rivet one. Does Heavy Vetting have any significance?

  20. Not with either of those, but I use this one: https://www.amazon.com/C2G-40018-Coaxial-Toslink-Converter/dp/B0002J2MV4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1488150408&sr=8-4&keywords=spdif+to+optical No problems at all with an HD500X. With Helix, I experience an occasional ~1 sec dropout, but I don't think it's because of the converter.
  21. Damn. It must be nice to be able to get a guitar custom made like that for yourself. The one available to buy for the everyday, non-godlike person certainly is nowhere near the quality of the one shown in the video. It's still a nice guitar though.
  22. As jbuhajla says, if you use snapshots for this, auto-engage can start messing things up. Here's a preset to help demonstrate: WHAM_WAH.zip
  23. Sounds like you've run into a limitation of the onboard expression pedal. You've already thought of plugging in an external pedal, which is probably the best solution. Another thought is using snapshots. One where the wah is enabled and another where it's the whammy. May or may not work for you, I don't know. Or assign both the wah and whammy to the same switch such that it will toggle between the blocks. This wouldn't work if you want both effects enabled at the same time, though.
  24. If you have a wireless mouse, put it over the pickup and move it around a bit.
