  1. I'm using the workaround now, and while it works, it's imperfect and a bit unpredictable for how I'm using it, not sure why. I think what you mentioned about the the LFO, or being able to reset its cycle, would be more what I'm looking for. Hope there's something in works for that.
  2. I use Reaper, so I'm not familiar with how you'd go about sending midi info to Helix from Pro Tools, but you can do this with snapshots. Set the global "Tempo Select" to per snapshot and make some snapshots with different tempos. When you want to change tempo, send Helix CC69, 0-7. There's other ways to do this, but I think they are currently broken, or at least one of them is.
  3. I have some presets where an IR is placed after a cab block or after two cab blocks in parallel. The options are there, and if it ends up sounding good to you, why not?

  5. Awhile back, I think it was version 2.0 firmware, they put in a new tracking algorithm for the pitch blocks, but then took it out because some people reported problems. I imagine they use the same method for tracking on the synth block. So anyway, at one point they did try something and they obviously know about the lacking tracking.
  6. Haha. They always send the candy no matter what you buy, even a bag of six picks, which might actually be cheaper than the candy.

    Tuner

Wait a minute, are you suggesting something is wrong with Helix's tuner? :)
  8. Lol. Is that what they're calling is now? xFast? As you've discovered, software of this kind is usually a bad idea. On Windows 10, or 7, Helix and the HD can coexist quite happily. Not sure what could have caused you problems with that. Sometimes, what I'll do when I want to edit a preset, is copy it somewhere else first, indicating in the preset name that it's an increment of the one before, and edit the copied/incremented one.
  9. Same here for MDR7506, or V6 (more or less the same). I've never tried anything else, I took a chance on these and stuck with them. No problems with either. I don't have them hooked directly into Helix's headphone jack, but through a secondary audio system to which Helix's spdif is connected. But it sounds pretty much the same this way as connected to Helix's headphone output.
  10. There's no way to change this slightly inconsistent behavior that I can see. I think it's likely you're the first have noticed this. Put it up on ideascale.
  11. I just tried with an HD500X. It's not listed as a valid device. :( The XT Live is though, so it should work.
  12. It would be interesting to know how many players, every class of player included, are actually conscious of the techniques they use. I for one am not, never have been, at least not to the level Troy Grady analyzes this stuff (which is fascinating). Rightly or wrongly, I've always done what feels natural, or sometimes unnatural when exploring the limitations of the guitar fretboard. For more experienced players that have fundamental techniques to the level of second nature, isn't that a sort of unconscious behavior, and that however these techniques present themselves, they are unique to that individual? I guess what I'm saying is, as fascinating as picking technique apart to extreme levels of detail is, be aware that doing so can potentially be a stumbling block to improving because what feels natural to you might be contradictory to what someone else tells you how it should be done. Not only that, but there's much more to music that technique alone, and if you're trying to mimic someone else's technique, you might be on the way to losing your unique way of playing the guitar.
  13. I don't believe this works. When you use one of these devices and try to connect via midi cable using Line 6 Monkey, none of the HD devices are listed.
  14. Good way to think about it. To add to it, the higher you get, the smaller the plateaus get - as well as the hand and foot holds - and it's easier to get knocked down. But if you do get knocked down, getting back up to a previously visited plateau is easier.
  15. Ultex picks are nice, the sharp ones.
  16. I appreciate that. But unless I suddenly develop alzheimer's, my self-critical tendencies makes non-annoyance impossible. :)
  17. I know you're responding to someone else, but here are some thoughts: There are many variables, based on you as a person, to take into account to answer some of these questions, and therefore are pretty much unanswerable to anyone but yourself. Is guitar playing something you have to find time to do, time that may not even be guaranteed? Or is it something you have the freedom to do at will? What exactly are you playing for a given session? Is it physically demanding? If it is, is your energy level sufficient to make any progress? Are your sessions interruption free? Is your current emotional state holding you back? I'm sure there are lots more questions of this nature, but these come to mind off the top of my head. For info about technique, picking in particular, I would echo what BillBee mentioned above about Troy Grady. Can be very helpful. But in the end, even regarding technique, you have to find what's most comfortable for you, otherwise you're fighting against yourself and your natural tendencies. But do try also to find when those natural tendencies are counterproductive, so you can correct for them.
  18. I'm persistently annoyed at my own playing. Every so often, though, somewhat rare moments, I do something that elicits my internal voice to say wtf, how'd I do that. The goal is to have that happen every time the guitar is picked up and played.
  19. I'm guessing, but I don't think the license will be tied to Helix in any way, but to the computer it's being used on.
  20. Can't comment on pianos, only guitar. This is a good piece of info to be aware of. But only if the tone differences are drastic and if the musical piece requires a lot of intricacy. If you're just standing there mechanically strumming an A chord, what would it matter? Even if the two conditions above are true, reamping is still a useful tool to give you an idea if something different floats your boat.

    New owner

You could always find an IR to use. I guess only Line 6 people would know why they didn't do a 2x10. Although it seems an odd configuration.
  22. You could take this a step further by assigning the blocks to a switch and label the scribble strip to help identify what you had in mind for this block. Even more, categorize dedicated presets for this purpose. For example, modulations, reverbs, amps, etc. But I have to wonder if at some point Line 6 might be adding a real block profile feature.
  23. When adding a wah, the default controller for the wah's position parameter is EXP1. The default for a volume block is EXP2. The default bypass for both of these blocks is the onboard expression pedal toe-switch. So you'll need to toggle the toe-switch. It can be difficult to toggle this switch, so press hard.
