  1. Does it do the same thing on another preset? Try backing everything up and then doing a global reset, 5 & 6. I believe it's an optical expression pedal, so maybe there is some sort of obstruction messing with the auto calibration?
  2. When using the octoverb, beware of setting the intensity parameter too high. If it's too high, for me usually anything above around 30, and things might start to sound a little 'unsmooth'.
  3. It sounds like you might be hinting at automatic IR slot change recognition. So if you move an IR to a different slot using Helix as the method, any presets that use the slot the IR was in would automatically be updated to the new slot. However, this is not the case. It'd be nice if it was though.

    LED status

The global setting mentioned above by phil_m does indeed affect snapshots. And if there ever was a problem with the top row not abiding by the dim/off global setting for snapshots, it appears to work correctly with version 2.21.0.
  5. I actually use the Title metadata so that when I import the original (always keep the originals), unHelixed IR files, that's what will be displayed on the device. This way I can manage a potentially growing list of IRs in a file manager. The file names will always start with the index number for the slot they are supposed to be in, and upon import to Helix, since the title metadata will be used, I can have a more descriptive name because I do not have to include the slot number in the title metadata, which is in the filename. As far as reordering the IRs, or changing their slot number: the way things are now with the whole IR system, engaging in this activity would seem to be self-destructive behavior. Hopefully once the new editor is released, this might be one of the things they address.
  6. 2. If you have the capacitive touch enabled (it is by default) you can touch the TAP switch and it will quickly bring up the settings for this. 5. May not be exactly what you're looking for, but there are several autowahs: mutant filter, mystery filter, and autofilter. 4. You might get close by using an IR. Here's some info that could be useful: http://line6.com/support/topic/16054-where-to-get-acoustic-irs/?hl=taylor+guitar&do=findComment&comment=118202 6. You're probably already aware, but the parametric EQ is the same as the global EQ. Not sure what you mean about having the same display though. Possibly referring to the graphical representation in the editor?
  7. O&O Shutup 10 works well, easily, and freely.
  8. I use 2 3sigma IRs from the Orange 4x12, 3a and 4a. Quickly tried the new ACE ones, comparing them to the originals, outside a mix. The differences are very subtle but noticeable to the discerning ear. In a mix, I would doubt anyone could even tell a difference. I ended up preferring the originals ones. The ACE ones seemed a little farther back in the distance.

    Tap Tempo-MIDI

If I remember right, this function is currently broken, thus your weird results. Changing the bpm through midi via a snapshot seems to work ok though.
  10. I'd say they are really close. The second sample has a little bit more low end. Both are fizzy, but I imagine that dissolves into the background in a mix.
  11. That seems to be the fundamental problem with it, the use of a gate.
  12. Perhaps the perceived volume difference is due to the second sample sounding more mid-scooped. That's what I heard.
  13. This can't be done. But depending on what you're playing, you could assign the pitch block's bypass to a momentary switch and only engage it when you're playing the notes for which you want an underlying octave applied. It might not work very well though if you leave notes ringing. And even if there are no notes left ringing, I would imagine this idea being a difficult skill to develop. Beyond that, the only other thing I can think of is maybe a variax can do what you want? Not sure.
  14. Here's a little more detail about a similar bug I can recall on the HD, from a private conversation I had with forum member hurghanico: Part of what hurghanico said in January 2015: you were already kind in reporting to me that you also have encountered the problem that the audio fades out with the Fireball when low mids and highs are respectively at 0/100/100 .. to me the problem recurs every time I set the Fireball controls as above (I'm not interested at all in those particular settings, but only to understand if my device has a hardware problem).. I responded: Yea. I can reproduce this. Only it's not just 0/100/100. After messing with it for a few minutes, I was able to get the disappearing sound at 0/100/88. But only when bass is adjusted first, then mid, then treble. And to get the sound to come back without switching presets, I could decrease the mid control by 1. Doing this also seems to have an effect on when the sound disappears subsequently, which was now 0/100/97. Very weird. Through all this I never touched any other controls except bass, mid, and treble. I should also mention when switching presets, I switch to a blank one and then back to the fireball one. There might be some public postings on the HD forum if one cares to search. I haven't. In any event, it seems like something got transferred over from the HD. I'm not certain at all if they even fixed this bug in the HD.
  15. As long as the bug isn't one of these evil critters, it could very well be useful.
  16. I can recall there being a very similar bug in one of the amps on the HD. I don't remember the specifics though.
  17. I'm fairly certain you don't need an internet connection to actually update the device. At least that's how I always do it. Download the firmware file from the Line 6 website, run the updater, I don't log in, choose offline mode, and select my Helix that appears on the next screen, and go from there. Obviously you need an internet connection to download the firmware file prior to running the updater, and when you run the updater Helix obviously needs to be connected to the computer.
  18. Many people seem to overlook DAWs' built-in plugins, in particular Reaper. No need to use third party software. Although perhaps a bit more difficult to use than something like MixIR from Redwirez, ReaVerb should do everything one would need. Another example is ReaSamplOmatic5000. You could build an entire drum kit with many instances of that.
  19. In addition to what silverhead said, the effect that is first in the chain and its on/off state, will determine the state of the LED.

    Pad and Impedance

    1. It's around -6dB. An EQ block would be after the input, so there's that difference. 2. I haven't noticed any changes.
  21. In-the-moment may be the key. If you were able to collect and analyze the uncountable variables that exist in-the-moment, then you could probably identify what the phenomenon is, but only for that very short time frame. Because how could any two ITMs be truly identical. But, if you could then collect and analyze many ITMs, a pattern might start to emerge from a wider, zoomed-out view. Once that pattern is identified, you could take advantage of the revealed efficiency by choosing the best ITM circumstances, or even intentionally creating the best ITM. A real time saver, lol.
  22. I'm not sure I would agree with the others that say it's ear fatigue, although it could be. I experience a similar thing you describe when trying to narrow down which IR or cab to use in a preset. I have a habit of recording multiple short clips with each take being a different cab or IR. Then I cycle through these takes (hotkey T in Reaper!) until I decide which one I want to keep. The problem is, I have a hard time deciding which one to keep, and often they all end up sounding like crap very shortly after I start this process. Usually within fifteen minutes, thus my doubting ear fatigue as the culprit. As you said above though, just minutes earlier when I turned Helix on, I was greeted with a very nice tone that I couldn't really fault in a major way. Perhaps I should learn to leave well enough alone. I don't know what name can be attributed to this experience, but a side-effect is usually a bit of frustration.
  23. For auto engage: Menu Bypass assign Then change switch, position, and wait to what you want Don't recall what all the defaults are, but you can change them to whatever you want.

    Pod broken?

That's frightening! I hope there's no burning smells coming from it.
