  1. I don't use the SPDIF for recording, or reamping, but I do use it for monitoring purposes. I'm not sure I could use it for recording because I get an occasional and rare second or so of audio dropout with this output. No clue why. But to record using the SPDIF, select the ASIO drivers in whatever DAW you use for your additional interface. For reamping the easiest, and best way, would be via USB. If whatever DAW your using doesn't have an ability to assign different ins/outs for a track, I would suggest trying a different DAW, perhaps Reaper?

    Clearing snapshots

That's what I thought you meant. :) So instead of doing everything one by one, and assuming you can remember the exact state of snapshot 1 when the preset was first constructed, the only way you could easily do exactly what you want would be to make a copy of the preset before you start changing any of the snapshots.

    Clearing snapshots

That's interesting. It has to be a quick tap-touch for it to copy one to another, with the one copying from being the first one touched. If you touch for about 1 sec, it will swap them.

    Clearing snapshots

I think what CBTL might have in mind is, for example, to have snapshot one selected, then copy this snapshot (even though it may be different than it was originally) to all others at once, in effect sort of clearing them all. But there is no way to do that. You'd have to do it one by one.
  5. There was a bug with the tuner on an earlier version firmware that did exactly what you're describing. Not sure of the exact version, but it was pre-2.0. If you are on the latest version, which is 2.01, check the input blocks and make sure you don't have more than one of the same input selected. But since you said it happens on all presets (including blank ones, "New Preset"?), that would rule out this as a cause.
  6. Not sure about the specifics of Ableton Live 9, but to change snapshots from the DAW, you'll need to send to Helix CC69 with a value of 0, 1, 2 ... or 7. That will change the snapshot within the currently selected preset.
  7. I've gotten the same behavior you describe here lately, regardless of the browser used, including once with the gibberish content. It's been OK for at least the past 24 hours or so. The forums seem to go through these spurts occasionally. My guess is it will be fine for a while and eventually act up again. It's been like this for quite some time, months at least. Perhaps it just needs to be maintained more frequently.
  8. Hey Sven, thanks for taking a listen. I use One Small Clue's Poise with the free G&S Custom Work Drum Kit Sample Library 1.0, and Reaper. Add some EQs, compressors, and other effects to individual kit pieces, some overall convolution reverb, and that's about it. I use my own custom mapping and a single midi track. It looks like the link I provided for the kit contains some refined samples from what I have, which I download a few years back. I see that it's still free. One of these days I might have to use one of the better known drum programs.

    Reamp?

Absolutely. I agree with everything you said. Reamping is an excellent tool to help you hone in on the tone you're after and can be a significant time saver. Every now and then while searching for a tone via reamping, though, it's a good idea to actually play some random selections of whatever you're working on, because what I've found is that although a tone might sound really good from a reamp, sometimes when actually playing the random selection makes me change my mind about the tone because it doesn't feel right. It might suddenly be much harder to hit certain harmonics, or the pick attack doesn't feel right, things along those lines. This is just how I tend to use reamping, others might have a completely different use for it. And I suppose a lot would depend on what's being played as well, and the type of music. So indeed, YMMV.

    Reamp?

Although this is very useful to narrow things down for any given tone, I find I have to be careful about this technique because if there is going to be a drastic change, an abstract, subjective, non-quantifiable component can be prone to loss. That component is the interaction between the tone and the performance/playing (the part of the interaction that's prone to taking a hit). So if there's a big change in the tone, it might be beneficial to again record a new take, including the dry track, using the new tone.
  11. Haha. Long Duck Dong. I suppose I could have a titanium bar made, but even that I suspect would eventually give way at the weak point. It's not that I'm abusive to the bar, at least I don't think so, it's just overuse, or is overuse abuse too?
  12. A few things to try: Rather than have the drive really high on the 808, if you do, keep it low and increase the level instead to drive the amp harder. Keep the drive on the amp fairly low, max of around 40, lower if possible. Don't go nuts with the master volume on the amp, too high and things can get pretty ugly, undefined, and possibly contribute to any unwanted fizz. Use the hi-cut on the IR block to a point where it becomes more pleasing.

    Reamp?

Check out page 54-55 in rev D of the manual. It explains things pretty clearly. I use this feature often enough and it works well, and is super convenient.
  14. Works OK here with Chrome. Try clearing the browser's cache. I have noticed lately, and more often, that the performance of these forums has been very sporadic.
  15. I have presets with = in them and they never caused a problem. Don't forget to add snapshots and scribble strips to the list, and whatever restrictions these might have. I suppose to find out what's allowed in any of these cases is to make note of what's allowed when renaming any of these things on the device.
  16. Thanks HonestOpinion and arislaf! Durning the course of this song another tremolo arm went kaput. I've got quite the collection going, and it's actually a couple more (carbon graphite ones) than the picture shows. I was lucky enough to have two of them replaced under warranty from Ibanez and they wanted the broken ones back.
  17. Thanks a lot guys! Glad to be able to write something that others get enjoyment from.
  18. Based on the sample, I don't really hear all that much wrong with the tone other than being a bit raw. Maybe turn the hi-cut filter on the cab or IR down some. The delay between the speakers interferes somewhat with the clarity. Not sure if you're using the DAW or an FX block in Helix to achieve the stereo separation. I'll use a dual pitch block for this type of sound, rather than the DAW. The main there here, though, is how would this tone sound in a mix? It's hard to judge this stuff with no context. Also, keep in mind that just because the AX8 has more models than Helix, doesn't necessarily mean a better result in terms of tone. I'm sure it would be quite easy to get crappy tones on the AX8, as well as on Helix. Amps matter, but not nearly as much as the cab and mic or IR selection.
  19. That's quite the compliment. It's an idea that's always foremost on my mind when I write. That is, the attempt at telling a story without words. And dammit! How did you figure it out?
  20. Thanks BillBee and Darrell. I try to write things that are a bit out of the ordinary, so hopefully this song has a couple of those moments. I had to play the section (hopefully memorable and unique) you referenced from Null Vitiator. It's been a while since I've listened to that song. It's interesting to write something like that, have a bunch of time pass, then listen to it again and wonder what the lollipop I did to do that, beyond a vague notion. Lol. I do remember that song was done with an HD500X.
  21. Sometimes there's not enough time, other times too much. It apparently tries to trick you. In the end all you can do is go with the flow, whatever that flow is at the current moment. Thanks for taking the time to listen. Enjoy. The Artifice Of Time. I make heavy use of snapshots (makes things so easy) in this song. I also use the reverse delay in a couple of short sections, which gave me nightmares because it's used in a way that suppresses the dry signal, which means that what comes out of the speaker is different than what is being played.
  22. Well, for me, things can get really, really messy unless I occasionally overwrite the junk with something that tells me, at a glance, a preset is empty.
  23. I'm not so sure it sounds like a short, or even a loose cable connection, since it gets worse over time. If it was a short, it would probably do it regardless of time. Can't think of what could possibly cause this. I'd probably contact Line 6. It should still be under warranty, barely if you're one of the first batch receivers.
