  1. Not too sure about the particular bass tone you're after as I'm usually after a cleaner, more defined tone. I also have an extaordinarily difficult time with bass tones myself, regardless of the modeling device. It drives me nuts. But a suggestion that might help would be to first settle on a cab/mic or dual cab/mic combo and then add a Cali Q Graphic EQ after the cab(s). Try cranking up the 6600Hz band, cutting the 750Hz band, and increasing the 80Hz band slightly. Adjust the other bands to add in or take out by experimenting. This should provide a scooped tone - that's the most prominent feature that jumps out at me from the video - and maybe a good starting point.
  2. Haha. I think you're right about that, but are you suggesting that us male guitar players engage in activities simply because we don't know any better? You're right about that too. But at least we might be getting closer:
  3. Yeah, I know what you mean. For example, I can listen to approximately five minutes of Mr. Malmsteen before my head is in danger of exploding. It's just too much fast playing for it's own sake. And sadly, you seem correct about that kind of guitar playing being dominated by males. Just the way it is I guess. I wonder if anyone has done research into why.
  4. One of the great things about playing fast is it's the only way to get an emergent pattern that sounds completely different from the pattern you are actually playing. So in that sense, playing fast isn't about hitting the maximum amount of notes in the shortest time for it's own sake, but to achieve that secondary pattern that can seem like magic, to the player at least, when it happens.
  5. I would have to disagree about the effects. The biggest chasms that really need to be addressed are the lack of filters and no auto-volume (or the equivalent, like adding a controller to make a volume block - or any block - into an auto-whatever - with pick dynamics!). HX reverbs would be nice, but not essential. Other than that, your list looks interesting.
  6. The EP1-L6H will only work as intended on Helix Rack. It's just like the EP1-L6 (same jack - TS - and pot - 10K) with an extra jack (TS) for the toe switch. The pedal part of the EP1-L6H will work fine on Helix floor, but not the switch. I suppose you could plug the switch into EXP2 or EXP3 to see if it can toggle between a min and max value.

    Pitch Shift Help

Yes. Certain chords produced some really funky sounds in 2.0. Other than that, I found the tracking better in 2.0. Prior to that, and in 2.1, it's seems really flaky, to the point where I wouldn't even consider using the pitch blocks for any kind of extreme detuning, unless the track being detuned is somewhat shrouded with other tracks.
  8. With regards to harmonizer placement, one thing that might dictate placement for you is if you want the parts separated in the sound field. If you do, placement at the beginning won't work. Don't overlook the harmony delay either.
  9. No. The two products will happily work side by side on the same computer, at least on a PC. Don't know about a Mac.
  10. Even if they would come out with a next gen HD, and assuming it has at least the functionality of the current HD, the price would not be $500 USD. Probably more like $600 or $700, which Digital_Igloo has stated on several forums.

    Global EQ

Whatever you set it to, it will stay like that, even through power cycles, unless you do a global reset.
  12. Neil DeGrasse Tyson always has a lot to say about this subject. Second video is pretty long, but listening to him talk, the time goes by quick:
  13. You'll need to have at least the Helix drivers installed on your system in order for Reaper to see Helix as an ASIO device. Probably better off to just download the Helix Application which includes the drivers, updater, and editor.
  14. You could make a drastic change to the Global EQ to hear more clearly if the headphone output is affected. It should be. The only thing I can think of is look at the last setting of the global eq, which is "Apply EQ": 1/4", XLR, or 1/4"+XLR.
  15. This would assume one's eyesight is adequate, but it sounds like a good idea to me. I'd vote for it.
  16. The screen is not higher resolution, but higher contrast. Big difference.
  17. Or they still own one, but only serves as a technological decoration.
  18. Oh yeah. Forgot about that function. You can also hit the action button on any selected block and tell it to "clear all blocks" at one time.
  19. Lol. Thanks. Way to induce a great feeling of pathetic depression this morning. So sad. And they all think ignorance is funny! What the hell are young people taught today?
  20. Copy a blank preset, or 'New Preset', onto the one you want to delete.
  21. I doubt Line 6 would give you your money back, unless you purchased the packs before 30 days ago. So you could return the packs and then see if the exploit works (they might already be trying to fix the problem, if they can). Even though this looks like an oversight on Line 6's part, it's probably not a very nice thing to do and is essentially stealing. But if that sort of thing doesn't bother you... I'm sure Line 6 wouldn't go bankrupt, lol.
  22. Seeing that it is not labeled with any unit of measure, it could be that it's because the speed parameter for this effect is reactive with other parameters, making any unit indication a bit senseless. I've noticed that there are a few modulated effects where a parameter seems like it should be labeled but isn't. So there must be a reason some parameters (I think all of them are time based) are not labeled.

    Go to mic???

Lol. Yes, it's interesting in the sense that when you start haphazardly going through all the possible permutations, a feeling of paralyzing anxiety starts creeping in, if you can call that interesting. There's always the next setting you haven't tried yet right around the corner. For guitar, I tend towards the 57, 421, 121 or 160, and 87 or 84. For Bass, I like the 4038 and 47. I do wish they had some mic placement options other than just distance. For example, when listening to IRs, I always find cone-edge alignment pleasing.
  24. I use a Mission Engineering EP1-L6. There isn't much to not like about this pedal other than price, and if you plan on using it for volume control, just don't. The throw is too short for that. Great for everything else and built like a mini-tank. Never had any other pedals, so can't compare.
