  1. Ok. Here's the patches then. There are some IRs used in these. One of them I've included, Taylor 314ce-Earthworks, since it's freely floating around on the web. Octo uses this one. Lead uses number 1 from Rosen Digital's Carvin Legacy, and Dback uses number 2 from Rosen Digital's Carvin Legacy. These can probably be replaced with most anything for a similar tone. strings.of.dimensionality.v2.01.0.zip
  2. Yea. That's a ḟucking good question.
  3. Lol. Thanks. Talking a little about patch construction reminds me, if anyone is interested in the presets I used for this song, I'd be happy to attach them to this thread.
  4. Thanks for taking a listen and the nice comments HonestOpinion! I take it you mean a whammy using an actual floating bridge? Cause I don't use a pitch block in this song. And sometimes, what may sound like a whammy effect (actual) might actually be string bending. I do that sort of mixing of techniques often. The reason is odd though. I try to intentionally limit my use of the whammy bar because I tend to break them. And they are expensive at $70.
  5. Thanks for the kind words guys!
  6. Completed a new song using Helix: Strings Of Dimensionality. Had a lot of fun writing this one. In particular two sections. One section starts at about 4:18 and uses the dynamix flanger. Love that this effect has an envelope controller. Gives the tone a sort of autowah character but with the flavour of a flanger. The other section starts at around 5:46 and makes use of the harmony delay, a truly wonderful effect. This section wouldn't have been possible without the addition of snapshots, as I change several parameters on this effect five times. This provided a way to construct a rich tapestry of sound that is incredibly easy to play. One could even consider this as a way of cheating to play something that sounds complex. :) Everything you hear in this song, with the exception of the drums, is Helix recorded over USB, no post processing. Enjoy!
  7. Try downloading Reaper. It even has an option for a portable install, not mucking up your system config in any way.

    Sound on sound

Check this one out, made by forum member Arislaf: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/2215337/ It may be just what you're looking for, and if nothing else, it will provide the idea for making a sound on sound patch. One thing you can do to enhance this patch is to assign each particle verb condition to a snapshot.
  9. Originally, I was always drawn towards the Line 6 Drive. Then I started using the Tube Drive, which is what I just automatically go for now, even with Helix. Whatever amp I might be using doesn't get to influence or change my use of the Tube Drive.
  10. I had forgotten HD500X Edit has an offline mode. :) Now that I'm reminded of it, I miss this with Helix. If you have any of the model packs, though, and use offline mode, these models won't be available.
  11. That is correct. If you want to edit/retrieve/send patches on a computer, the USB connection is necessary.

    3 osc bug

It's working here. From 3 (min) to 1 (max), or 1 (min) to 3 (max). Tried both latching and momentary. Also tried with the snapshot controller and works there too. Expression controller also works. Very odd bug. Only thing I can think is try a different preset location and/or a global reset. But you probably already did that...
  13. Not alone at all. I really liked Helix before version 2.0 as well. Snapshots are really great though. Already found a good use for them. Something that would likely not have been possible without them. I don't think the addition of snapshots was any surprise to anyone that pays attention on the forums and reads posts by some Line 6 employees, and occasionally ganders at Ideascale. So for someone who bought Helix, pre-2.0, that has this sort of unconfirmed info, it's not unreasonable or unrealistic for that person to expect expanded capabilities for Helix in the future. Certainly the possibility is there for disappointment, but that hinges more on personality traits than anything. I'm sure some people enjoy disappointment for whatever reason. Lol. Some people are probably disappointed that there's not 200 amps. People like that set themselves up quite nicely for disappointment. Gotta keep things real, or at least when 200 amps don't show up, you can at least say to yourself, oh well, f*ck it.
  14. Bundles certainly are a useless, bungled mess. I think it's a joke by the Line 6 developers so that Beavis can find TP for his bungle hole.
  15. I sold all of the pedals contained in an HD500 and replaced them with Helix. Does that count? Although I still do have an HD500X, which collects dust currently. Never had any actual pedals - that you step on - before any of this modeling stuff. Used to have a Rockman Sustainor and Stereo/Chorus Delay, Peavey Addverb, and Digitech IPS33 Smart Shift.
  16. Glad you got it working. I always get real anxious during these procedures because you just know that a power outage is going to happen, even though it never does.
  17. Since it says it's already in update mode, have you tried starting the update program (version 1.09), and if Helix is recognized, reflashing?

    Problem FW2.01

I don't have any problems after the 9 & 10 thing, then reloading backed-up presets without manually rebuilding them. I don't think the 10 & 11 combo needs to be done because I've noticed after importing presets from the previous firmware, then shutting the device off, the next time it's turned on it rebuilds these automatically anyway.
  19. You've already figured out how to assign both amps to a switch it seems. So to alternate them, it's simply a matter of selecting one of them, hit the bypass button, and save the patch. Since there is more than one block assigned to one switch, the one that determines the LED state is the one that's selected from within the group of two amps. So touch, not press, the switch the amps are assigned to, to change that selection. After you have the one you want selected, save the patch.
  20. Put the idea on Ideascale. I'd vote for it. A single color seems like a waste of perfectly good color led rings when the switch layout is snapshots.
  21. Never had a problem updating, but since 2.00.0, the update process sure has become time consuming.
  22. It's just red on, nothing off. Their thinking might be that snapshots are a kind of preset, and presets are that way too. I agree though that colors for snapshots could be a good idea. Might be confusing for some if you use the switch layout as half stomp and half snapshot.
  23. I guess this kind of nullifies, a little bit, the notion that one should buy technology for what it can do when you buy it, not what it might be able to do in the future.
  24. If you find yourself preoccupied with these thoughts often, you probably have your answer.
