Helix Editor needs a right side scroll bar to be used on small screens
duncann replied to tjontheroad's topic in Helix
Ah. So that all the elements in the window will scale when resizing the main window below a threshold, making a right-side scrollbar not needed? Or having the ability to move a horizontal split vertically? A split between the block and detail/bypass assign/controller assign/command center views? -
Helix Editor needs a right side scroll bar to be used on small screens
duncann replied to tjontheroad's topic in Helix
The window is resizable. In fact, you can make it small enough (439 pixels high) so that everything below the signal chain display can be cut off, which is the problem. Adding a right side scroll bar for this situation seems like it would work but would make it a bit difficult to actually work with. Realistically, it seems like they should have limited the height resizing to 640 pixels minimum, which would leave one slider control still in view, although the command center would still be a problem (as mentioned above) to access at that height, which needs about 750 pixels, or 640 pixels and a scrollbar. I don't think it's a bug, maybe an understandable oversight. They probably didn't anticipate anyone running the Helix editor on such small resolution screens. I didn't even realize they still make such low resolution devices in 2016. -

Lol. It's a bit ironic because the editor for the HD had a lot of complaints about the interface being too small and not resizable. Guess they went a little too far in the other direction for the Helix editor. The slider versus dials: at first I didn't like the sliders, but after using them, they really are leagues better than dials. Maybe they don't have to necessarily be so chunky and tall, though, which would condense some screen space. -
I miss some of the missing effects as well. I could still use the ones from the HD as it's in one of Helix's effect loops, but I hate the thought of making a patch that relies on two devices. Waiting patiently for the next update... Excellent advice. Simply living happily is a good way to push back against the unstoppable momentum of aging, telling it to lollipop off. Steal some of its energy and use that energy to live even more, challenge yourself, and slow down its process.

I've often wondered why this setting even exists. It seems like it's there for nothing more than causing problems. Lol. Is it part of the midi spec or something?

Help!! My NEW pod hd500x adds harmonics to the outputs
duncann replied to eitankosman's topic in POD HD
I definitely hear something wrong with the first chord. Sounds like some ugly pitch shifting going on. Don't know why it would do that with no pitch block in place through. The second chord sounds fine. -
Number 2 is there, you just need a physical adapter (two 1/4" mono male to 1/8" stereo female) and use two of Helix's returns. Then use a stereo return block in the preset. It's not a global function like it is on the HD though.

Lost all IRs & snapshot settings updating to 2.01
duncann replied to guitarboyrocks's topic in Helix
I don't think the Helix app discarding a numbered prefix is documented anywhere. I just kind of inferred it was intentional behavior because it does happen sometimes. It wouldn't decide to do that all on it's own initiative. It could be something to do with CC128 (page 58 of the manual)! I'm no programmer, but it almost seems like Helix is internally keeping track of IR names somehow, or cached, and when importing a new one, the cache, or other means of tracking, isn't cleared first. I know that Helix has a clear function, even for multiple IRs at a time, and it does indeed clear what's displayed in the interface, but even that function does not seem to clear what's going on in the background. Just a thought. -
Lost all IRs & snapshot settings updating to 2.01
duncann replied to guitarboyrocks's topic in Helix
I should clarify my above procedure a bit when using a third party file manager. Once you have the IRs sorted in the order you want them based on a tag or other sorting criteria, you'll have to then bulk rename them based on this criteria so that that order can be maintained in the OS's native file manager because when using the Helix app's import function the dialog that pops up uses the OS's native file management, and it's much easier to just sort by name when importing. Be aware though that when using a number prefix, when importing, the Helix app discards this prefix from the name, or it's supposed to. But it doesn't for all them. The order will be correct though. It seems nonsensical. Alternately, you could manually select the order by using the Helix app's import function and then ctrl-click each IR file in the oder you want them. Dragging and dropping a block of IRs from the OS's (Windows 10) native file manager and at least one third-party manager (xyplorer), screws up the order. Bottom line, the only way I have found to have a predictable order is using the Helix app's import function and using shift- or ctrl-click. -
Lost all IRs & snapshot settings updating to 2.01
duncann replied to guitarboyrocks's topic in Helix
If you have a limited amount of IRs you use, the current system is fine and not really a big deal. But it does become a problem with larger amounts. I would recommend completely bypassing the system currently in place because it does seem unpredictable sometimes (maybe they have since fixed the unpredictability since I noticed it a long time ago). Instead, rely on the original IR files and an external file manager; one that would allow tagging each file with something, for example a simple number. Now just sort based on this tag. Highlight the starting location in the Helix app and use the import function. In the dialog that pops up select the first in your sorted list you just made, and then shift-click the last. That's it. -
There's gonna come a point where when you're old enough, not only are you going to be old, but feel old too. I don't think I'm there yet (48), but I sure don't feel twenty anymore. Then again, maybe you have the genes of one of these 90+ year old people who can still run a marathon! Lol. To the topic, when I first got Helix, changing from the HD, I don't remember being blown away. A big improvement for sure, in both features and sound. But now that I've been using Helix for a while, I'd really be at a loss if it suddenly vanished. I'd have to use the HD which would be like having to eat the rotten, maggot infested leftover in the fridge.

Haha. And look what can happen when things get too complicated (ChristThePhone's avatar reminded me of this):

http://line6.com/software/ Select Helix, all software, and your OS. It's probably better to download Helix Editor v2.01 (called just Helix actually), as that contains everything you'll need, including drivers.

Not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for, but I get good results with a dual pitch block placed after any cab or IR. On one of the pitches in this block I have the cents at 4.0 and the delay at 2.0ms, the other pitch's parameters are both zero. The mix is 100%. Left and right pan at 100%. To add just a little bit more to it, you could put a room reverb after the dual pitch block. Try the attached preset. wide-stereo.zip

Thanks arislaf! Still looking at using your sound on sound preset. It sure is fun to just pick up the guitar and play with that preset.

The actual restarting should occur pretty much right away. If I remember right, when the update goes like it should, after the restart the update program on the computer remains blank until Helix has fully restarted. During the preset rebuilding, the screen on Helix should show the usual moving dna, basically a normal startup screen, with the addition of an indication of preset rebuilding and an increasing number. It should not take thirty minutes, maybe around five at the most.

Thanks zooey. Much appreciated.

HELP! Does anyone have the original settings for Djent in Factory 2?
duncann replied to Keithrob21's topic in Tone Discussion
I happen to have the original Factory 2 setlist that came with Helix when I got it. I believe, but am not absolutely certain, that this setlist is from version 1.0 of the firmware. Helix 1.0 FACTORY 2 setlist.zip -
Thanks! Lol. Wibble sticks? Haven't heard that one before.

Triggers some old memories. :D

Wait a second. How do you get 10 snapshots?
-
You can certainly use patches that have model pack models in them without being hooked to a computer as long the patches reside on the device itself. However, if you use the offline mode of the editor to construct or view patches that use the model packs, those models will not be available. In the case of viewing patches in offline mode, any models from the model packs will be replaced by models that are not from a model pack.

This is the first I've read of something like this. Sounds to me like there's something wrong with the device's hardware. I'd tell the person to contact Line 6 support or the retailer where they got it from.
