  1. Rewolf48 just clarified it is working as designed in your thread on the JTV forum.
  2. Thanks for confirming it is working as designed Rewolf48. Makes sense that if you use an HD500 patch that uses a Strat model that the pu selector on the JTV will then allow you to choose pu selections within that bank rather than changing models to match whatever is physically set by the JTV model knob.. So you effectively have a complete virtual strat. It's just an issue if someone wants to jump from the forced model bank to a completely different model bank using the pu selector mid song and perhaps used to exploit the fact that if the model selector was set to a different bank that the physical setting of the JTV would override the forced setting from the HD500. However, it is more logical to behave as you described with v2.0 - so when in strat or LP or semi banks as selected by the HD500 patch that the physical position of the model knob on the JTV is ignored - so you effectively can physically switch pu's like on a real guitar for that model rather than having to select another HD500 patch to swap pu's only. Thanks again for clarifying.
  3. Hi pugdealer, I chimed in with an answer on the HD500 forum for this. I had the same scenario when I updated to fw 2.0 - I figured it was working as designed. If the HD500 has forced a model change on the JTV, the pick up selector then just chooses other models from that same forced bank, regardless of where the model knob is actually at. To get it to use the model bank selected on the JTV, you have to manually move the model knob to the desired bank and then move the pu selector. If it is already on the desired bank - then move it away and back again. This will only be an issue if you manually change JTV pickups to a different guitar model bank after the HD500 patch change has forced a model change for you. If you allow the HD500 to control the JTV model changes in all instances then it should not cause you any issues.
  4. I am not sure why Arislaf could not reproduce it - is he on v2.0 fw with his JTV and on v2.2 with his HD500 and connected via VDI with the HD500 forcing a model change on the JTV - and using the default for the Variax "lock"/ "unlock" controls in the HD500 global params screen? However, it depends on whether you see this particular issues as a problem or not. For me it was not a problem as I don't manually switch patches on my JTV when playing live - I let the HD500 control it - so it did not matter to me that it behaved differently. If you use the HD500 to change a JTV model, and then manually swap using the pu selector when playing live, then I guess it will be a problem because you will now also have to move the model knob if you wish to manually select a guitar model from a different bank to the one you were forced to with the HD500 patch. Also depends on whether you get the annoying pop sound when changing HD500 patches - that forced my hand and I had to roll back to get rid of it. Maybe someone else will chime in with their experience that will also help shed a bit more light on the subject.
  5. The X3s fx return comes after the X3s send in it's signal chain - so your HD PRO signal goes into the X3 return and then disappears into the X3 to whatever follows the FX loop in the X3 - it won't come back out the FX send. To utilise the X3 in the HD PRO's loop, you will need to plug the HD PRO FX SEND into one of the the X3 inputs (I think AUX is probably the best choice- Have the X3 patch setup so that patch will accept input from AUX). Then take the output either from the X3 FX SEND and put into the HD PRO RETURN - or just take the output from the L or R output jacks and allow the signal to flow through the entire X3 path. You may need to attenuate or boost the HD PRO signal going into the X3 depending on the signal strength - but hopefully not - hopefully it will work without any clipping occurring or any boosting being necessary. Hope that resolves it for you.
  6. Hi pugdealer. I noticed the same thing when I was using fw 2.0 with the JTV59 plugged into the HD500 with VDI. So, I think it is working as designed - unless I also have a fault with my JTV59 (which is not beyond doubt). I can't double check at the moment because I have rolled back to v1.71 to avoid another problem I got when using JTV fw v2.0 with the HD500, which is a loud pop every time I change Hd500 patch that forces a JTV model change. On v1.71 the patch and model change is silent - with v2.0 I get a loud pop. I have another thread open dealing with that. It seems that whatever model bank the HD500 patch change switches you to on the JTV, stays as the "selected" model bank regardless of the actual position of the "model knob" on the guitar. So the pu selector just changes within models within that bank. To get the JTV to recognise you want a different bank whilst on the same patch that forced the model change, you need to physically move the "model knob" on the guitar, then the JTV recognises the bank selected by the "model knob". I think it has to do with the change that introduced the ability to use the JTV knobs to control parameters within the HD500, and the "lock" and "unlock" variax controls, which I have not yet dabbled with and just left on default values.
  7. Sorry to hear that guitar4u. I have had to rollback to v1.71 firmware because of a problem with a popping noise when changing patches that swap JTV models on my HD500. With v2.0 loud pops with v1.71 silent changes. See thread http://line6.com/support/topic/4801-jtv59-popping-noise-changing-models-though-hd500/ I have not experienced the mag pup volume drop again but I have not had the chance to sit and play with the JTV just on battery and just using mags - I will have to find time to do that to see if my mag pup problem has gone with the different fw. How are you getting on with your problem? Has your JTV reached L6 and been looked at yet? Have they given you an update? Thanks.
  8. I had to roll back because I get a popping sound when swapping patches on my HD500 when connected via VDI and when the patch changes the JTV model. On v1.71 fw I don't get any problem, and patches change silently, and the models on the JTV change silently. I will be rolling forward one version at a time to see if I can identify which fw level introduced this popping and will then report to L6 via a support ticket. I have another thread open documenting the problem: http://line6.com/support/topic/4801-jtv59-popping-noise-changing-models-though-hd500/
  9. What version fw are you on with your JTV59? The problem does not occur at v1.71. I will be rolling forward one version at a time to see when it reappears, because I jumped from v.171 to v2 and hit the problem. I will have to stick with whatever the latest version is that is "pop" free for now. Once I determine which level introduces the problem I will report it to L6 via support ticket.
  10. Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad to know that it's not just me. I narrowed the problem down to my JTV59 with fw 2.0. I don't get the problem if I use a standard guitar or if I use the JTV59 with 1/4" and mags only. I rolled back my JTV59 fw to 1.71 and the problem went away - my HD500 patch changing became silent once more. It seems to be when the HD500 patch change sends a model change request to the JTV59 that the popping occurs if on fw 2.0 on the JTV. I am intending to roll forward to 1.8x, and then to 1.9 and finally to 2.0 to see exactly when the popping is introduced. I have a thread open in the JTV forum for that.
  11. I use an Epiphone LP hard case for my JTV59 and it is a perfect fit and supports the neck. They are also a lot cheaper than The Gibson equivalent.
  12. I have rolled back to 1.71 and the popping noise has gone. I have a gig tonight so I have not got time today to roll forward to see when the popping will re-appear. That will have to wait till tomorrow.
  13. I am using TELE pos 1 and 5 and Lester 1. But the problem is with any model change. I know that from the very early days just manually switching banks on the Variax 700 and the JTV 59 would often result in a loud pop when moving to the acoustic bank - never found out why that was - but it never used to be a problem when auto switching from a POD floor unit such as the X3L or the HD500. But with this latest fw release it is there. I am going to rollback to 1.71 to see if it goes away and then roll forward and see if/when it reappears.
  14. Yes - I have two VDI cables - a brand new one and one I have had a few years - problem is present with both.
  15. Have another read of the manual. I believe it does explain the difference and it is expected behaviour. It is working as designed. If you select AMP A or AMP B in the L6 link pages then the signal sent to the L6 link attached unit (either DT or L2) will receive the signal taken directly after the AMP module and you do not get the POST path. If you want the POST path then you need to choose LEFT/RIGHT to have it included in the signal sent via L6 Link.
  16. My JTV59 is on fw2.0 and it makes a popping sound when my HD500 changes the model selected when I change patch using Fs1 to fs4. I have tested the HD500 with a standard guitar and the patch changes are silent. I have also tested with the JTV and each patch set to DONT FORCE and its ok, but if the HD500 patch forces a model change then I get a popping sound when I press the Fs. I will roll back my JTV to an earlier fw and see if the popping disappears, and if it does then hopefully I can identify which fw introduced it. I suspect it was v2 as I did not have this problem before. This popping is particularly noticeable when connected up to my DT25 and also changing amp models, and at volume the popping is really clear and not what you want mid song or even between songs. Has anyone else had this issue? Thanks.
  17. OK. I tested with a standard guitar and the HD500 patch switching is silent. I tested with my JTV connected via 1/4 inch cable using just mags and again patch switching silent. I then reconnected JTV to HD500 via VDI and popping was back on patch change. I then updated my patches to use DON'T FORCE for Variax model and popping disappeared. Put my patches back to what they had before, each selecting a different Variax model and popping back. So problem definitely with JTV changing models when instructed by HD500. Next test is to roll back fw on JTV to 1.9 to see if popping goes away with earlier fw.
  18. Setup: JTV59 (v2 fw) connected via VDI to HD500 (v2.2 fw) connected via L6 LINK to DT25 (latest fw). When I select a new patch on the HD500 using the f1 to f4 switches there is a popping or clicking sound that is very audible. This is noticeable even when I am not playing as I change the patch or if I press the footswitch really slowly. I did not have this problem when I first had the HD500 but it seems to have appeared since I did the last couple of fw updates - in fact I first noticed it after I had done a JTV firmware update to v2.0, so I don't know if it is actually related to the JTV,so I need to try the HD500 with a standard guitar to see if it is just the JTV causing it. Wondered if anyone else has experienced this or a similar problem with the HD500 patch changes? Thanks.
  19. Using the HD500 to update the JTV is far more reliable than the dongle but it is not perfect. I recently tried re-installing JTV v2 fw and hit the same midi errors using the HD500 on v2.2 fw. After several attempts and having to disconnect and reconnect cables and power off and power on HD500 and JTV, it eventually worked. I don't understand why there are so many issues with these latest fw updates. So best of luck with your update - hope you get it to work! - you may just have to try quite a few times before it works - or settle for an earlier JTV fw version like 1.71 or 1.9 - in my experience they installed far more easily than v2.
  20. Did you try the standard power off and then power on for both the HD500 and the DT50? Try powering on HD500 first while connected via L6 LINK to DT50 and then power on the DT50. I used to have a similar issue with my HD500 and DT25 and a power off of both and then a power on always fixed the issue. However, I have not tried it since going to v2.2 fw on the HD500, so fingers crossed it still helps.
  21. Interesting info Phil. Thanks. I will bear that in mind for the next time I try a fw update. I thought the shorter one was only meant to be used when connecting to the variax usb dongle, and should only be used for HD500 connection only if no correct vdi cable available, but mow I know I should try it when doing fw updates. Thanks! For this update I was using a brand new Line6 VDI cable connecting the JTV59 and Hd500 and a USB cable that I have used for Hd500 connection to my PC for some time, I think it was the one that came with the unit.
  22. I decided to retry the JTV update via the HD500. This time Monkey took me straight to the software update screen for the HD500, skipping the screen that allows you to choose either HD500 or Tyler Variax. And what's more the screen said it could not determine the fw level of the HD500. So I exited and tried again, same result. and again, same result, and again, same result. So, this time I disconnected all cables, and restarted my PC. Reconnected all cables. Restarted Monkey. This time it gave me the choice screen, so I chose Tyler Variax, and I reinstalled fw v2.0. Fortunately, it worked. Now I need to sit down and see whether any of the models sound different.
  23. I have experimented with single/both input settings for my JTV59 for both electric and acoustics. For electric models, the setting depends on the model chosen and the amp model being used and the end tone I am after. Most of the time I am using the VARIAX/SAME settings but for some I prefer VARIAX/GUITAR where I am just using the Variax and just getting a single input. For acoustic models I think they sound better at lower volumes, so my preference would be to use just one input but again that depends on what end result I am after, so sometimes I will set it to both. I also reduce the GLOBAL string volumes within workbench HD, and also pull back the volume of the strings within each individual acoustic model, because IMO, I think they sound more realistic and I don't have to worry about playing much more lightly than normal to get a believable acoustic sound. Your experience and preference may be totally different.
  24. At Line 6 supports suggestion to resolve a problem with my JTV59 mag pups suddenly dropping in volume, I decided to reinstall the JTV v2.0 firmware. The last time I had done it, I used my HD500 and the process worked fine a couple of times in a row. However, this time, I had just upgraded my HD500 to v2.2, and while I was connected up I thought why not reinstall the JTV v2.0 firmware, and suddenly I was in a whole load of hot water. It seemed like the update had worked until right at the end I got the dreaded popup saying midi code error 80009000. I tried the reinstall again and got the midi time out error so I had to disconnect the JTV from the HD500 by unplugging the VDI. Three more attempts saw the same midi code error but on the 4th time I suddenly got the JTV UPDATE SUCCESSFUL. Phew. However, why has this happened? I thought the JTV update via HD500 was the best most reliable method - and it certainly was before for me and I have changed nothing apart from moving on to the latest FW level for the HD500. I find this really frustrating that a simple software update should encounter so many problems and be so flakey. I also had a quick play through the models just to see if they were back to what I had before and to my surprise some sounded different. I will have to have a thorough play through the models I use to be sure, but one surprise was the ACOUSTIC pos 1 and 2 (the guild model 6 and 12 strings), it is now sounding very "boxy" for want of a better word and I don't remember it being like that before. And this prompts the next question as to why reinstalling the same firmware should have any effect on the sounds of the models. Surely a successfully update should mean everyone is getting the same but on more than one occasion now, I have installed the same v2.0 firmware and noticed a different end result. I can't get my head around why that should be or why there is no guaranteed way of knowing you have got a fully 100% successful firmware install. I have yet to determine whether the reinstall has address the issue with the mag pups suddenly dropping in volume. More testing to be done.
