I don't know you, or your level of performance, but you gotta depend on every person on your team. If you can't depend on your soundguy, get a new one. Lights, dump the guy. Roadies, pull over and leave them on the side of the road. As far as live situations go... when you are playing in your bedroom designing patches: you are playing at 1db, and you create a patch that increases your volume to 2db... that is a 100% increase. When you get that mic'd and are now pushing it through a 50,000 watt system... can you imagine what happens if out of nowhere your guitar volume doubles? Your 1db increase isn't 1db when you turn up the volume. Let the sound guy control your 'boost'. That's his job.

1. most of the literature says that the 500 users have no real reason to get a 500x. 2. the 500 is supported, just as much as the 500x. Bugs are fixed. How much more 'stuff' are you looking for, and how fast do you expect it to be released. 3. You just missed your chance to own a 500x at very nice prices (christmas). 4. If you aren't shopping today, for a gig tonight, NAMM begins at the end of the week. New gear is 'exciting', so old gear goes on sale.

How do I boost solos? 1. you can't throw the sound man into a hissy. Let him do the boosting. 2, If i want to change something, for a solo I have a few ways based on what guitar I am using and what style the music is: a. The middle pickup is always in the way of my picking hand, so I set it fairly low. When used in conjunction with another pickup, it acts as a volume reducer. Solos can be as simple as switching to just one pickup. b. change the eq. c. use a wah. which can be used as expression, or simply turning it on and letting it act as an eq, similiar to item B. d. I have a guitars with active pre-amps (different from active pickups). Many of them are designed to do a little boost of some sort (volume, eq, etc).

there is always something new coming down the pike I don't shop based on tomorrow. I buy what I need based on what is available today, now, when I need it.

Bottom 20% is hidden. any ideas? ====================================================================== you need to change your screen resolution. I am at 1600x900, not only is it all visible, sometimes would want to make it bigger. *I would also like to be able to 'dock' it to the right, but that is a separate issue based on how I use it and folders at the same time. Just thought I would throw that out there.

I have an old Jackson. It has a J-90c pickup, and runs into a JE-1200 mid boost (active pickup, and active preamp circuit). 18volts is what it needs to run. The thing has been my 'go to' guitar/pickup when I needed something really hot. Not just loud, but it picks up every little nuance and every --- its an amazing pickup. BUT It only gives an amazing sound on old gear. Gear of its generation. If I plug it into my Pod, it sounds fairly common. Nothing unique or special about it. I've had the thing for almost 30 years. Its has amazed people for almost 30 years. My rig. Other people's rigs. Any old rig. Its only the modern gear that destroys it.

harmonics happen on the guitar. you either hit them or you don't. it has nothing to do with the amp and the fx. Of course, as said above -- some things can enhance them. I don't know of anything that will actually make them less apparent, other than a noise gate and possibly a poorly set compressor. You make'um noise with stringy things. Big boomie boom come out'um big box'um.

its everything every ingredient is needed to makes a pie now, don't get me wrong, I don't know why, specifically, they would sound so drastically different. But, yes, every thing is going to make it what it is. I've seen factory fresh exact same models look, feel, and sound different than each other. But they aren't exactly the same, because the wood is from a different part of the tree. Its the next layer in, or the same layer but 3 feet higher. Another tree in the forrest. Any number of things.

The default setlists have one called Bass/Aco/Voc. There should be some really good examples in there of what you can do. Its a good starting point for creating your own lead bass sounds.

Well, yes, of course, if its a choice between a computer and a phone, go for computer. Everytime, that is what the smart choice will always be. And on stage, I would never try to operate the EDIT software anyhow. But I make HD Setlists based on a show's setlist (and I have multiple projects going. Its not always the same set in a different order). So, being able to import and export files is kind of important. Whether its a last minute change prior to a show, or overnight in a hotel room before the next show. I could be fiddlin with that. Not needing an actual laptop/pc in my suitcase, when I already have a powerful phone with me that could do the job, would make much more sense. Besides, I don't think that mobile devices will ever truly overtake the pc, but its definately going to be a large market share. I view mobile as a companion to the pc, not a replacement. I don't know if it runs on Mac. Because I am not a Mac user. But, yes, I was referring more about mobile options. Thank you for clarifying that for me. lol

I FIND SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY I had EDIT in offline mode. I knew I could drag and drop files INTO the software. But, I never tried to drag and drop onto the PC. 1. You can drag and drop onto the PC. 2. If you stick, for example, 500x files into 500 EDIT, and then you drag them out of EDIT and onto a PC, they will be 500 files on the PC. I never knew this until this morning. I knew I could 'save as', and they would be converted, but I did not know about drag-and-drop.

Bluetooth Smuetooth. I can't remember the last time I used Bluetooth for anything - probably 2008 to get info off of an old phone onto a new phone. I am talking about USB. Its much better - faster and reliable. Especially since the HD has USB and not BT, lol. And being the 'flagship' device, I would think that you would have a considered that musicians, not just at-home practicers, are using these things when on stage and on the road, or even in a rehearsal hall. Away from home for hours, even days, without the comforts of home but still needing to use the gear. Mobile/portable access would be very useful without needing to have a full fledged laptop available at all times.

Pitch shifting is different than step tuning. Think about your tremolo. You don't grab the bar and make the sound go from E to Eb to D. No, you do a linear tuning until you hit Eb. I like the idea of an E to Eb step system, but I would much rather have all points in between. In fact, I still carry around my 30 year old Boss pitch shifter pedal, but use it less since I bought my HD. Why? Because when you show up to do a guest spot, 3 songs, unrehearsed, and you have a floating trem like a Floyd Rose, you can't tune your guitar to a +/-3cent difference. And that is not a half step. I need 'all points in between'. I need those percentages for proper pitch shifting. And I am thankful that the 'half step' is a recognizable number like +/-1. That's easy to remember.

Don't laugh... I just bought an Esteban G-10. (its a long story, and why i bought it is not relevant) It has a headphone jack. I could see you running the headphones from the pod into the input of the amp. So you could control the headphone volume separately

I have an Ed Saxman setlist (Bass Amps v3 Ed Saxman 16-Jan-2013). But I am only an occasional bass -- which is why its nice to be able to have it all in one unit and not need to own and carry separate devices.

I own an HD. Therefore, I am fine if they kill the product line off. I won't be buying another for twenty years. And honestly, I am not sure I will ever buy a Yamaha product anyhow. I am fine if there are no new 'upgrades'. Bug fixes and computer drivers are not upgrades. And things like the pitch-shifter being in % rather than "1/2 steps", those aren't bugs - that is just a difference in programming opinion. All I want is ANDROID SUPPORT. That not an upgrade. That is an entirely new product, in a way, and could be used on all of their products. I mean, think about it, how many pieces of software work exclusively on the top-end Microsoft WIndows versions. I wouldn't even be able use this webpage if I was limited to Microsoft, but the EDIT software runs only on certain versions of Windows. Stepping off soap box.

I said that 20 posts ago. Someone else said it 20 posts before me. And about 5 posts ago, I said... I already own my unit. I don't care if they come out with something new, or discontinue the line. Its a recurring theme in life. That is why, progress for the sake of progess, should not be tolerated.

and then on the other side of the equation. If I have to pay $300 for a bare-bones no-frills HD, and another $300 on the features I want... Why not just go buy a 'brand x', which cost $600. Sure, I may not need a 'specific effect' but if I have it, I may someday need to use it and wouldn't need to pay for it separately. Believe it or not... all of this witty banter is how ideas happen.

I agree that fixes should be free. That's a no brainer. I agree that we shouldn't expect a product that we didn't buy. Meaning, don't buy a 20 effect box hoping that a future software update will include 20 more. And I agree that we could pay for major features. BUT IF THEY ARE GOING TO CHARGE US FOR NEW FEATURES 1. make sure that bug fixes remain free, and not a situation where "you can pay to download the marshall 1970 cab, it doesn't have the same problems as the 1964" 2. Make new feature purchases one of two ways: a. a one time fee that covers all future releases, by unit id, so that it carries over unto a 2nd owner, or in the event of a unit 'reset'. b. make it an a la carte menu. pay for features you want, without paying for features you do not. Again, by unit id, so that it carries over to any future owner, or in the event of a unit 'reset'. But then, what happens is: user forums become a mess when trying to answer questions -- what updates are you on, what bonus material did you download. -- Sorry, I don't have those features, therefore I can't help. and sharing patches, such as on customtone, becomes a nightmare for users because -- now i have to order a new feature to make this patch work

well.. wait... You don't even need the unit to do what I said. Use EDIT without it being hooked up (offline mode). Drag the 500 file into EDIT, and then save it to your pc. EDIT will save it as a 500x file.
-
I can put 500x files into my 500, without changing the extension. Sorry, I don't have the gear to do it the other way. Obviously, going backwards in technology, you sometimes have issues with compatibility issues (dsp, not existing featues, etc). But for the most part, everything works fine. What you can do, to see if this helps at all.... Put your 500 patch into your 500x without changing the extension. And then Save the patch as a 500x patch. Then put the new 500x file back onto the 500x. See if that helps. I have found that it makes a difference for some of the files that give me troubles.

Agreed. But at the same time. Sometimes, as people develop new products, some of the new features can be applied to the old. You see it happen all the time.

and for those lacking in foreign language skills, or an online translator... he sometimes wants to use just his fender and was wondering if there was a standby mode. I told him to plug the pod into the fx loop of his amp so he can bypass it that way. Or he could use a blank preset to get a 'no effect' effect.
-

Quite frankly, I already own a HD unit. So I don't care if L6 kills the product or not. I am good, as long as the current downloads (edit/monkey/etc) remain available so I can (re)install the software at a future date. Perhaps if they also keep drivers up to date, so that in 2020, when Windows 12 is released, the software can still work. Hey, before I bought my Pod HD500, I was still using: ART Mach II Rocktron Pro G.A.P. and for headphones, I had a SRD Rockman Soloist (an original model, not the Dunlop versions). And some other little pieces. But the point is... I bought what I liked. I bought what worked. I kept it. Until I bought my HD, it had been 20-30 years since I did any major overhauling of gear. And as long as my unit doesn't break, I will use it for another --- wow, 30 years may outlast me. Quite frankly, I don't see an LCD screen lasting that long. But if it does, I have no intentions of getting rid of it. KILL THE HD LINE just keep the software available
