  1. Dude, you're using a patch bay. 4cm is available - just not through the amp.
  2. The nice part of doing stage work ---- The sound system is available. Unlike a church, they don't kill the heat and electricity for six days a week. Unlike a bar gig, you aren't limited to 20 minutes before show time to have the PA. In your instance, when everyone "takes 5" you can continue to work. Hell, it's show business. An 8am call time means you have 4 hours to work on your gear because 8am is really noon.
  3. And there isn't a heading that says "select these models from the packs", they are all just intermingled.
  4. When Iron Maiden and Alice Cooper started using 3 guitar players --- did they say "we have 3 guitar players, we can start to make Country songs now"? Of course not. They made the 3rd guy fit into what they were already doing. lollipop on everyone who said that you need to adjust things. Make the new guy adjust, especially since he is only a part time player. The one thing you may need to do is create a "solo" sound - since, with one guitarist the "rhythm" guitar sound drops out during solos, but with 2 guitarists it does not.
  5. Anyone who says that the $3000 models (kemper, axe, etc) are better than the $500 model ---- DUH But sometimes it boils down to what you need. If you want to be able to have a simulated Marshall, fine. But if you want to simulate removing the tubes and replacing them with a different model of tubes --- then you need to spend the money on a unit that allows for that. Do you often buy guitar amps and then replace the 3rd circuit diode from XYZ Corp with one from 123Corp because you like the zingy zest that the one from 123Corp offers when compared to the glistening grandeur of the one from XYZ Corp? So, then, why the need to pay more for a synthetic unit that does allows you to do it. Plus, let's face it. You don't have the cash to spend on a Kemper. A lot of people don't. That is why $800 Chinese Epiphones outsell the $12,000 USA Gibsons.
  6. To say it is "exact" would be a lie simply because it is impossible to make something exact unless all things are equal. Listen to a cell video of Slash's rig. It doesn't sound like it sounds in person -which doesn't sound like it does on record -which doesn't sound like it sounds over the PA at a concert. Each situation will make it sound different. To say that a computerized tone will sound the same over a set of $2 headphones as a $3,000 half stack will sound smacking you in the face... But, I bet that you if you listened to a song on the radio that you wouldn't be able to tell which was a tube amp, solid state amp, little pignose amp, modeler, or keyboard.
  7. Oy vey. If a gig is that f'n small --- do not use a damn amp.
  8. We've seen many new users not understand, so let's make sure we understand something.... It is not a simple click of a button and "wham-o" all modeling gets turned off. The amps are part of your presets. If you don't want to use modeling, you need to design presets that do not use amps.
  9. If you do not intend on using the amp modeling, I think you are wasting money. Sure, the fx are nice. But any unit can do fx. The price of the Pod is based on its modeling technology, and the best use of the Pod is to go direct to the PA. Basically, you'd be buying a Ferrari for the sole purpose of driving to the end of the driveway to get the mail.
  10. There is also the option of using the 4cm in combination with the Boss -- could we turn it into an 8cm? Ultimately, the answer is the same as most other questions: Just try a bunch of different methods and try what works.
  11. If the gig is small, use headphones. Use IEMs. Plug direct to the PA and hear yourself through the backside. I don't use any amp for any sized gig. But certainly for the small/quiet ones you don't want an amp messing with the mix.
  12. As long as you are flashing to one of the versions that accept the model packs, your model packs will still be available. You'll need to "reauthorize" the machine because the flash will essentially wipe out the old authorization as if you have a brand new machine. But you do not need to buy them a 2nd time.
  13. "the Pod is simply a digital amp" WRONG There is no "power" section. It is not an amp. It is an amp modeler. You will still need a method to hear the device. Some form of amplification/speaker combination. ============================================================================ But, to answer the question: Yes, a keyboard amp will work fine. In fact, keyboard amps are preferred over guitar amps because they tend to be "flat". As to the stereo part: 1. depends on what you buy. 2. the best stereo sounds come from separated systems --- one on each side of the room. As to the volume part: It depends on what you buy. One of the nice thing about a lot of keyboard amps is the fact that they are "wedge" shaped instead of square shaped. Because they are pointing up in the air right at you, they don't need to be as loud as a guitar amp that may be shooting straight out at your feet.
  14. Simple solution... You had a good mix before he came along. He is the one that needs to make the damn change.
  15. PA does not stand for Pre Amp. It is Public Address system.
  16. Oh, OK. So, let me repeat myself... Because of the internet, if you cannot do this stuff, it is your own fault. You no longer need to wait until your next "once a week" lesson to get a question answered. You no longer need to wait until "regular business hours" to go to a music store, only to find out that they don't have a book containing a 3rd diatonic triad "but we can order one, it will be here in 6 weeks." You don't even need to flip to the next page of music anymore because screens will scroll it for you. It is beyond easy today. Because of all of the unprecedented access that you have available. The only limitation you have to your learning is you.
  17. AMEN BROTHER. But, in fairness --- The unit is 6 years old. They weren't quite as 'mainstay' in 2010 as they are today. And music software tends to be "behind the times" due to a lack of need. I mean, MIDI technology still measures in K, not M or G. And it is usually single or double digit K.. Floppy disks are more than enough. And most units still used them up until Microsoft stopped included the drive software as standard. So, while I am right there with you wanting to at least be able to load/save patches with Android, I am not prepared to cuss them out just yet.
  18. You could also plug into the pa. I mean, you have one, otherwise you wouldn't be able to hear the singer. So, just skip the amp. But, to answer the question, the 500 does not power speakers. Yes, you will need something to power them. The 500 is an amp modeler it is not an amp. It is designed to be used without an amp, or with a "plain" amp so that you can hear an unaltered sound of the device.
  19. There are some f'd up synth-like sounds available. But none of them are "clean" sounds.
  20. But some of that could be like comparing apples to Fords. For example, to me, a $50,000 Fender Stratocaster will never play as well as an $800 imported Jackson. Certainly one is better. But, I cannot play on a 7" radius. A good setup doesn't matter in this situation. I think the best way to compare guitars would be to compare Gibson to Epiphone, or Fender to Squier (or MiM Fender). Because there, all things are equal. Some are just made more cheaply. And THEN you can totally tell the difference.
  21. At this point, someone should post the video of a guy playing guitar on a tree that was toppled over.
  22. You can tell that I am a child of the 80's... I use those picks with the fruity colors. *Technically, I only use 3 colors of the rainbow depending on what instrument I am playing. And none of them are a primary color, only the mixed colors. Even my pointy's are neons and glitter types.
  23. HOWEVER... If you seriously want it in all of your patches, and if you are using your computer with the EDIT software: You can create a new patch, and then copy it to all 512 slots. Or, copy it to 64 of them (in one setlist) and then copy the entire setlist 8 times. That way every time you open a spot, you will always have the volume pedal there already installed, ready to make the rest of the patch. *Please note: this doesn't add volume to existing patches. this will overwrite existing patches. But many of us write our own patches and use the same basic template for every patch - therefore, instead of having a "blank" patch in every spot, we like having our building blocks already installed.
