  1. Of the options that Monkey gives you to download direct from the interface, you do NOT need: Variax Workbench Workbench HD Everything else is either a NEED or a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
  2. I vote for Monkey, not just the EDIT program. Monkey will (when ran) inform you when updates are available. **Speaking of updates: I am going to suggest that you get the latest firmware for your Pod before you bother with installing tones.
  3. Yeah, that would do it.
  4. Yes, I came here to say almost the same thing that BillBee said. Tutorials are nice. But the most basic way to start using the device is: What was your rig set up like before you had the Pod? The Pod is now your entire rig in one box. Do the same on it as you did on the old rig. Yes, the HD500 can do way more than your current setup, but using it to its fullest will come later. You will get lost if you try handling the fancy stuff before learning the basic stuff. The basic stuff is no different than what you already do. Guitar plugs (as example) into a wah pedal, which plugs into distortion pedal, which plugs into an amp. So make your Pod include a Wah and a distortion pedal and an amp. We tend to over think things, and then make them more difficult than they really are.
  5. What sound are you looking for that you can't create with the original set?
  6. And if the standard set isn't enough for you. They do sell a Bass Pack.
  7. Hey, it could be the power supply. BUT. Another possibility. It could just be the way the unit works. It all depends on what kind of buzz you are are talking about. Most of us have had our units awhile and know the difference between Pod buzz and problem buzz. The HD500 is a noisy unit. The noise is part of the "realism" of the unit. A noise gate in the signal chain helps. If it disappears when you touch stuff, it could be a ground problem. BUT, it could be a ground on your guitar, not on the Pod, that only gets amplified when dealing with the noise of the Pod. Endless possibilities. We've had an apartment dweller, who's neighbor's electronics on the other side of the wall caused a problem. We've had robotic lawn mowers causing interference. Headphones that didn't connect properly causing phase issues. They are great units. But they take a bit to learn all of the idiosyncrasies. Gone are the days when you plug something in far away from the refrigerator and microwave. We have so many electronic devices in our lives, there is no way to really know what is causing what anymore.
  8. But it won't buzz. More importantly, it won't burn out your unit.
  9. The POD has a CD/MP3 input jack. It will allow you to use your "other sources" to play along.
  10. No adjustment in EDIT. But, you can adjust your screen resolution, which would make EDIT appear larger. It would also make everything else appear larger. That way you do not need to adjust individual settings like fonts. **Question** Does adjusting the font size even get the job done in EDIT? It would make the fonts bigger. But the EDIT program would not adjust the space allowed for letters, which means you would be looking at only a fraction of the print because the rest would be outside of the space permitted.
  11. $20 at Wal-Mart. Get yourself a set of those little computer speakers.
  12. If you mic your cab, the PA sound is not going to be the same as what you hear. So, no matter what you do, it is going to end up sounding different. But, it will sound closest to the same if you using a PA And, here is a tip --- Do not sell an amp to buy a guitar. Sell the amp and buy a 2nd Pod. Use one. Have one as backup. You never know what something will go wrong. And since they are hella-small, they will easily fit into your vehicle.
  13. But it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. You can't afford to pay someone to run your sound - the result is bad sound. With bad sound, the result is gigs that don't pay well enough to hire a someone to run sound. Which begins the cycle all over again. I've never heard a customer walk out of a venue saying "That band is frickin awesome, but the sound man used a mic at a 45 degree angle which created a unpleasant whistle in the 4k region. And it just totally ruined everything." But I definitely heard them say "man, that band sucks"
  14. I believe that it is either 4 or 5. I didn't buy the model packs, so I didn't pay attention to those discussions.
  15. Sorry, I do not agree with the situation at all. You cannot run sound while performing. Sound men need to be out in the crowd to be able to hear things from the employer's perspective. They need to change things based in real time based on environmental factors (more people in the room, or congregating in a particular area). Hire a sound man. Never do it yourself. End of story.
  16. OR For $200, you buy yourself a used HD500X --- which is the floor version of the rack but doesn't require a separate floor unit because it is the floor unit Seems to make more sense than spending $1000 a new one or $2000 for the newest one.
  17. You can run XLR and 1/4'' at the same time. But unless you are running a dual signal chain that is run in stereo, you cannot direct where the cab sound goes. Here's my advice... Make your tones for what the customers hear (XLR direct to the PA). And then if you need to plug into an amp so that you can here yourself on stage - who really cares if there is a little extra hiss going on.
  18. **Using the volume and tone knobs on your guitars are a completely separate subject and has a countless amount of data available already written about it. Google is your friend. The Pod is a completely digital unit. You don't need to turn the master volume to 10 in order to heat it up to get the best tone. Your tone is created before the master volume of the pod even comes into play. The master volume isn't 'per patch', therefore shouldn't be considered to create tone. Pick a master volume position. It doesn't matter if you choose 1 or 5 or ten or anywhere in between. Whatever you pick, keep it there. Build your patches.
  19. There is no right answer. There is only the right answer for you. And unfortunately, we can't answer that question because we are not in your head. Only you know the answer. BUT To answer the question ----- Since you use headphones, I would set the volume for a comfortable level for when you are using them. And then, when you plug into an amp, you use the volume of the amp to control volume. That way, there is no Pod variable. Keep the Pod the same no matter what sound source you are using.
  20. Just to clarify ----- NO, you can't assign amp models to footpedals. But, yes, you can assign amp models to footpedals. You can only have 2 amp models. You cannot have 4, and then switch between them.
  21. I don't think that you can upload a Bundle. They are too big. You'll need to upload it somewhere, and then post the link here.
  22. 1. No. Although, you could do it. You would need to run a dual path. But then you are cutting your effects in half because each chain would require the same things. 2. No. Although, you can do mic and guitar at the same time. Again, by running a dual signal chain. *Note: Did I misunderstand this? You want to record a line out signal from the Daw back into the Daw?
