  1. @mileskb FYI, to the best of my knowledge one of those guitars is not a fixed bridge. Cheers R
  2. This is one that's been around the boards a few times. I personally would love that, but it seems most people don't tend to put much use in the looper or saving off loops for editing so based on what DI has weighed in on here, its not a top dev priority. Which is understandable. Have to put the resources where the demand is. If you want to loop, store and have the most realtime flexibility the Ditto X4 is superb. If you want to just capture what you are playing or dump a loop to a .way without the need for setting up a DAW every time, the new TC Wiretrap looks an amazing solution
  3. This is why I'd never want to be a product manager with an ear to my users 'Make it Black' 'Wish it was white' 'I love that it's Black, hope that never changes' 'Will a future update make it white' 'I would buy the thing if it was red' etc etc So here's my thing, I hope to God if they change resolution of the tuner they allow you to keep the current view as an option. I love the bars method of tuning and I love the resolution\granularity as it is today, super easy to see from standing height. I was so happy to see the tuner worked like the Korg Pitchblack aesthetically. Again, I don't mean to be rude but it sounds a bit trainspotter to be so caught up on it. The Helix can tune a guitar to where regular humans hear it in tune, job done.
  4. Personally I think the tuner works great. Does that mean if I tuned my guitar using it and then had that tuning analyzed string by string by a high end device typically only used by a luthier (Boss one you mentioned aside) would it pass 100%. Probably not. I'm guessing none of the tuner's I've used in the past 20 years would to be honest. But, I tune with the Helix constantly, have played about 20 gigs with it thus far and not a single audience member seems to have noticed, and any time I've recorded with the thing there's zero issue when the other guitarist, keyboardist or bassist track along with it. Think 'horrible tuning accuracy' is a bit OTT, and all relative I guess to what you are trying to achieve. Playability-wise, it works, quite well.
  5. 'If the solution is to buy an h9 i prefer to sold the helix and buy an axe fx2 or ax8.' I don't think anyone was saying that's the only solution if you want shimmer, moreso if you have a third party unit that excels in it already just add it into an external loop chain (H9, Pog, Strymon....a lot of folks on here kept something of that variety around even when the Helix landed), save the processing on the Helix and ultimately it's all about tone. As I said I grabbed some U2 tones off the web and the shimmer that was built in some of those is well fit for purpose and might more than suffice for most.
  6. I dunno, I used to really want this (I owned an Amplifi TT before Helix so thought an App would be a given) but without bluetooth I'm not altogether sure of the advantages of an IOS version. There's the obvious touch element of course but to be fair the restrictions fiddling about with a tablet sized screen once you see the extra workflow possibilities in the full editor app seem like a step back. And if you have to be tethered to a USB cable, laptop probably going to be just as handy. I get why Line 6 didn't really focus too much on the IOS\Android interface. In reality you can edit most everything on the unit itself with a color screen bigger than a phone and tactile elements surrounding the screen that automap beautifully. App, definitely nice to have versus need to have and with finite dev resources I hope they'd focus on other things before detracting from some element like scenes or more amp\stomp resources (man I hope some day they open up a third party aspect with a store to download and integrate licensed block components).
  7. I will say this. There's some great U2 tones up on the CUSTOMTONE repository, including some with shimmer elements. Might be worth grabbing a few and either a) taking them apart to work out how to build one to your liking b) being super lucky and finding one that does the trick so going back to the fun part involving strings etc :)
  8. I'd the same thing, full sunlight the color screen all but unreadable (for the other 90% of the environmental conditions you'll play indoors etc totally beautiful though). Gave up on it, not really needed too much outside of editing etc. Scribble strips worked fine for me though on presets so yeah, great idea to have the stomps follow suit. Even if that was a configurable options like 'Daylight mode' or the likes. On a similar note, I find I simply don't need the color display unless I'm editing. When playing I rarely look at it as stomps and scribble strips are all I need. Wish there was a way to switch off the color display and therefore conserve the thing and it's longevity (only part that worries me about the screen when in time pixels will die and that's the overall display will be the most prone to failure, so why not be efficient with it). God, would love if there was a screensaver mode where it turned off after X minutes and could be brought back to visibility by pressing the joystick or the likes. Now that, would be ideal
  9. OK will do, thanks for the advice. Yeah, put me in a grumpy mood for sure, knowing I'm one of those people who gets consumed when I noticeably scratch new kit. Appreciate you taking the time to respond
  10. Thanks so much chaps. Will try that 'touch both switches' thing tonight. Really appreciate it.
  11. So if you were designing a backpack, and it's official and not cheap, but granted quality material, to go with your beautifully meticulously designed guitar processor, one of the top 3 core features would be 'Unit its designed for actually fits in it without grease and a wrestling match' After waiting quite a while for the backpack to get in stock, parting with close to $150, and waiting for two weeks for delivery I opened it this evening ahead of a gig tomorrow night and am faced with this. Before I return the thing, anyone else experience the same issue or do I just have a bad one (the last thing I'm going to do is force a metal zip over my lovely Helix then spend weeks depressingly looking at al the black finish that has been scratched off).
  12. I have started customizing mapped foot switches with labels other than the default block name (trying to standardize with logical things like 'LEAD' and 'WAH' etc). All good. But this evening I decided to move a lot of those customized switches around to try and standardize on locations between patches, and it seems when you move a mapped switch around it defaults back to its original name (most likely the block device) so they have to be re-customized. Anyone know a way around that?
  13. That's hilarious, exact same issue with fv-500, was wrecking my head as to why it would do it but the switch to reverse min\max values resolved the problem. Expression pedals can just be the weirdest things, some I have work fine with a certain set of devices and either not at all or with weird results with others. Really wish manufacturers had just standardized.
  14. Jerk :) Ha, actually as I hit post I thought, 'I must have that messed up, if the Mode switched to Looper that would essentially lock you out of a simple way to switch back to preset mode'. So a quick fire up of the Helix and yup, as was stated, it's the button next to Mode. I guess what I was conveying though was this Looper block assigned to a stomp acts a little different than your regular control in that activating it puts a corresponding number of footswitches and scribble strips into a pre-canned set of looper commands. And I'm thinking if they did have Looper as a proper mode you'd have to be able to disable the option, seems a lot of folks who never use looper function (a staple for me) so they would be annoyed if they had to cycle through that page to go back from stomp to preset. It's the little things you know.
  15. I think what he meant, and the way mine works, is that a lot of the presets have the looper block set up in them. When you change mode from preset to 'stomp' (I'm sure that's what @amsdenj meant to type) on those ones, the mode button scribble strip changes to 'looper' so there's consistency there. Tap it and all the controls for the looper show up 'Record, Play, Overdub etc etc'. I never thought of this as a mode, as if you pick a preset that doesn't have the looper prebuilt in (or obviously build your own) it is not an option whereas Preset\Stomp are global modes no matter what.
  16. I do really really wish the Helix saved to Flash and could store a loop or two, would use that a lot, but not for everyone I guess. From a third party perspective. I utilize looping a lot, have owned quite a number of different loopers over the years (Boss, TC, Boomerang, Digitech, Pigtronix), all with their advantages and disadvantages. I will say hands down the two best solutions I've found 1 - The new TC Electronic Ditto X4. It's pretty amazing, has a function where you can record two separate sets of loops and have them run in serial mode, so for example a verse and chorus. When you press each corresponding footswitch the ditto will wait till the playing loop finished before switching to the second, so your timing doesnt have to be perfect. The effects are also amazing, and I recently just found you can layer them on top of each other. 2 - Ableton Live Looper device. All you need is a footswitch that can send midi (or an interface with a footswitch input so you can use a simple 1\4 inch jack foot pedal). If all you have is one midi switch (I use a Disaster Area DM6 so can map a number of parameters) you map that to Record\Play\Overdub button. The really great thing about this solution is if you want to save a loop you literally drag up into a Session cell, you are then free to add layers or just save your work. Super workflow.
  17. That Novation one looks great. I am receiving the official Helix backpack today but now wondering if that Novation might have been a better option, so still return possibility. @Paolo, if it isn't too much trouble, whenever you are next transporting the Helix in that case would you take a pic once the unit is in the case, would love to see how the fit is
  18. Yup, latency is entirely down to your PCs processor and some fine tuning on the buffer side should do it. It's all about finding the balance where the response time is low enough, but the CPU doesn't thrash causing pops and clicks in your recording. Once you get it though it's definitely set and forget. I will say I've used the Helix on a number of computers and zero noticeable latency, just saying that to alleviate that horrible 'I have a $1500 that doesn't work when connected to a computer' feeling
  19. Thanks all, thought as much, oh well, worse things in the world to be dealing with.
  20. Hey there, finally got to setting up some send\returns today to some external pedals I want to bring into the mix (Strymon and Eventide). Love that Line 6 gave 4 loops. Here's the thing, you know the way the factory presets mainly load with a looper in the mix, always mapped to the same footswitch. Is it possible for me to add maybe Send\Return 1 and 2 to a load of presets in bulk or do I have to go into each individually preset and add over and over again. Thanks
  21. As always, a collection of people who gave up some of their valuable Saturday time to post and offer assistance. Thanks chaps, greatly appreciated. Definitely think I'll grab them for all the reasons you've stated., as a roadmap to being able to master this thing.
  22. Obviously, it's all down to taste but.... After owning the Helix for a few weeks and essentially altering the factory presets and trying to build one or two of my own I finally grabbed a bunch from the Customtone area for the first time last night. It's like I just found second gear in the Ferrari (leading to my obvious own question of why I even waited a few weeks to do it).Utterly amazing sounds, and thanks to anyone and everyone who takes the time to construct and post a tone. My question is about the Glenn DeLaune ones, the entire catalogue is about $55 and would seem like the best option. I only really know of them through some YouTube search results and the odd mention in these forums. Has anyone actually purchased his set and if so, were you happy with them and are they worth buying. Also, I juste tended to order the CUSTOMTONE list by download number and grabbed the first 20 or so, just such a huge list up there already. Anyone got one or more that they've grabbed they absolutely love and use a lot. Thanks in advance,

    Helix vs AX-8

RIblues I apologize. Thanks for taking the time to post the specific functional and feature flaws of the Helix that substantiate your notion that it wasn't even worth keeping out of a box and off a shelf. Very well made points, eloquent and articulate. Actually, wait... Nope, still calling b*llsh*t

    Helix vs AX-8

If you do ever attempt to get that law passed and reach out to a congressman or the likes please record the conversation, it'll be a classic. 'So Mr Igloo, or can I call you Digital, explain to me one more time, what is a 'Modeler', and is five the minimum or maximum 'posts', and more importantly roughly how many votes or contributions does this law get me' :)

    Helix + H9

Hey jetdriver, have you delved into having the Helix control the H9 via midi yet (just Activate\Deactive and Preset Cycling). I've been meaning to sit down and sort through it but if anyone has taken that steps and knows of any specifics regarding channel and particular program messages that have to be sent...well I'd appreciate it.
