Sorry, I didn't see the replies in this post. I only saw the post now that you quoted a message of mine. Yeah he uses an Axe-FX. And damn these trebly leads are the toughest to make..

I still don't get what is the problem here. You can have any effect you want in any of these 2 patches and you can control up to 4 effects in each patch.

But what would be the problem if you had a clean patch and a distorted patch? You could save both in your Pod HD and with a press of a button, you could be changing them really fast.

You basically need the bass response from the clean path and thehighs from the distorted path. So I would try cutting around anything above 500-700 Hz on the clean path and anything below 600-800 Hz on the distorted path. But these numbers are really subjective, therefore you should try for yourself what you like best. I also believe that if you set up your patch like this, you won't be getting any phase issues.

I don't know how you make your dual amp bass patches, but the best way I have found to do this is to high-cut the clean path and low-cut the distorted path. Use a guitar amp & cab for the distorted path and maybe a screamer. Maybe if you would tell us the tone you are after, we could help you better. The spectrum analyzer would be no use for you, if you don't have an isolated mono track of the tone you are after. So your best choice is to start using your ears and your hands to tweak your patch. If you start doing this, I can guarantee that after a certain point, your ears will be trained enough that you will be able to build any tone you wish with the Pod HD. Hope these help! :)

I have 2 guitars. A 6string Schecter with passive pickups (Dimarzio Titans) and a 7string esp ltd with EMG pickups and I build my patches on those 2 guitars. Honestly, the main difference I notice is the output of the pickups and the sustain ofc. (6string has a floyd) Generally, most people that is interested in these tones have pretty much guitars with the same or similar specs as mine and they say that my tones work great. (You can see this for yourself actually by reading their reviews) But ofc there are rare cases where people have much different guitars than mine, with alder body for example or totally non-"modern" pickups. In cases like these, I suggest tweaks based on their comments by comparing their tone with mine and we manage to make the patch sounding as it should. I used to believe that the guitar makes much difference in the tone, as well, but after doing this for a while, I realized that the patch itself has a much greater impact in your tone.

Guys pay me to build their favorite tones. How much would you charge for a tone that someone requested you to build for him and you spent 4 hours minimum?
-
Why would you choose to have such an expensive audio interface and such a cheap modeler? Just curious... Also, is there a specific reason that you prefer to use the spdif output instead of the XLR for example?
-
I mostly use the Fireball and the Treadplate amp sims for mid/high gain modern stuff. (The Big Bottom is also a very good amp for specific tones.) For cabs I mostly use the XXL and the Uber, but you should note that the XXL cab needs much of its bass out in order to be usable. And then the typical FX's you find in a modern chain: noise gate, compressor, screamer and after the amp a lot of EQ pedals in order to shape my tone even more, because the cab/mic sims in the Pod HD are really meh. You can find all of my recordings in the links bellow: https://soundcloud.com/giwrgos-andrhs https://audioboom.com/SBSoundLab

I have been trying to emulate, for over a year, these Axe FX tones from bands like Periphery, Intervals, Polyphia, Plini etc... And after hours of tweaking, I achieved getting close to their tones. So the best advice I could give you is to stop searching in the custom tone, (because it can get very frustrating and time wasting) and start building your own tones. Start by finding a spot in a song that has the tone you are after being played with the least interference with other instruments, listen to it many times and try step by step to get close to it. I can assure you that the Pod HD CAN emulate Axe FX tones. It just takes crazy amounts of time in order to do so. At least for me. Happy tweaking! :)

Thank you very much for all your wonderful work pfsmith0. I 've thought many times in the past to do something similar like measuring what each tone knob of my 2 favorite amps (FBall & Treadplate) do, and we can finally have a clue about what's going on when we tweak these EQ knobs! So do you plan in measuring more amps, or you just measured some in order to give us a clue on how things work? (I'm just curious :) )

ok so the most vendetta guitars I saw had 25,5 scale. So the strings you are using are fine. But if you want to set up your guitar in a Drop G tuning, you would need for the lowest string at least a 68 gauge. -

Thanks buddie! I really work hard on my tones! :)) Yes, as the other guys said, B to G would be -4. But in order to be able to enjoy this tuning with a pitch glide, I would suggest putting the mix to 100% of course and put some headphones on as well so you can't listen to your dry guitar. Or simply just play loud. Otherwise the result won't be pleasant. You have to note though that when you change your tuning with a Pitch Glide (especially Pod's Pitch Glide), the quality of your tone significantly drops. Pitch glide on distorted tones is messing up the overtones or something like that. So the result is kinda unnatural. So I would suggest that if you like this tuning, buy some new heavier strings, and set up your guitar at Drop G. -
Hey man, I believe every single person here understands your frustration. We all started this way. So I would suggest firstly to stay positive, because the Pod HD is a very good unit. Now, high gain sounds are a bit tricky to build and from my experience it takes time and effort to build a good one of those. The best advice I could give you despite using your Pod HD with a physical amp/cab or direct, is to avoid using 2 different amps together (especially for high gain tones). So just start with an amp you like and spend most of your time in tweaking the amp's eq. (It's very important to have a good "base" before you start messing with eq's) After that, place a midfocus EQ at the end of the chain (settings vary because they are dependent on the tuning and other factors, but you can find some very useful EQ measurements that pfsmith0 has posted in this forum and work with them) And last, "troubleshoot" your tone. Does it sound thin? Lower some highs. Does it sounds muddy/boomy? Lower some bass. Use graphic/studio EQ's to affect wide frequency areas and then experiment with some parametric eq's. P.E.Q's allow you to sculpt your tone in a more detailed way. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. P.S: Arch Enemy's Tone is really nice! I've seen them live with Angela and they kicked lollipop! I also picked up an Michael Amott's pick as well! :D

HELP FOR DOWNTUNING 6 string GUITAR using HD500!!!
Giorgos02 replied to abinash_ihd's topic in POD HD
Haha guys, G Tunings do exist and people are playing even lower these days. Here is a song I covered in Open F Tuning with my 7string! (In case you are curious :P ) https://audioboom.com/boos/4155225-northlane-worldeater-guitar-cover-pod-hd -
Nevermind, it didn't work. When I keep adding patches in the setlist, the bug returns and I need to fix it again. Thanks, Line 6 -.-
-
Ok I just made it work. This time I just corrected the mixer by using the Pod's buttons entirely and then double-clicked "Save" and now it works! Thank you so much, perapera!
-
this didn't work for me. I tried exactly what you suggested: 1st I dragged and dropped the patch into the Pod HD edit, and the Path A was muted, even though the indicator was at -4dB. 2nd I moved a bit the level of the Path A and placed it again at -4dB, so it can work well again. 3rd I clicked twice the "Save" button on my Pod HD 4th I changed the patch with another from the saved ones and then I changed back to the patch that has the bug and it still had that bug Am I doing anything wrong here? :/

Yes, exactly, they need to learn. That's why I do believe that they should have their eyes opened with the correct information as soon as possible and it will be up to them on how much they are willing to get involved. Like I said, Pre & Full models, most of the times are like 2 different amps. So it is best for him to play with both of them and see what he likes best. Saying that he shouldn't use the Pre models with powered speakers or a PA system is false and highly misleading, in my opinion. Anyone that has read pfsmith0's measurements can relate to my statement.
-
Why should he avoid using the Pre models? How can you be "a Line 6 Expert" and mislead people that much with your posts? Many times the Pre models are better than the Full models. A huge example is the Fireball amp sim, which I use a lot and I can guarantee you that its' Pre model is 1000 times better than its' Full. Why? Because of the 3rd order harmonics that the Full model tends to produce, giving you that fake, crappy, digital tone. I would suggest you to go and study pfsmith0's measurements before giving any more false information to the people here. http://line6.com/support/topic/12853-amppre-frequency-response-graphs-and-data/ This might seem like the initial purpose of Line 6 (to lead the people using the Pre models only with guitar amps), but it is totally not correct. You can definitely use Pre models with powered speakers or a PA system and get great results, even better than with the Full models, because as I said, many times the Pre models are just more natural sounding, and they also have different frequency response, which is like using a totally different amp. So my suggestion to the OP is to trust mostly his ears and start tweaking the unit. Only by spending time with it, he will learn how to build his own personal and favorite tones. Listen to both of the models each time, and use the one that you like best, no matter what is your setup. Regards, G.A.

You can definitely get any tone you want out of the Pod HD, once you learn how to tweak it. I am not gonna lie, it will be really frustrating at first, but once you find the right moves, it will take you were you want. I have personally managed to get close even to the Axe FX & Kemper tones. Here is a sample of a modern metal tone that I made: https://soundcloud.com/giwrgos-andrhs/periphery-the-bad-hing-guitar-cover My soundcloud is full of modern metal, ambient and clean tones. Hope I helped with your decision :)

Heyo, anyone can do the re-amp thing, without having any audio interface. I just did it using only my Pod HD500X. Thanks to this guy!

thanks for the replies guys.
