Hope this gets fixed in a firmware update soon. That is a serious visual disconnect.

I would agree with this principle in general but in the case of the PC+ it seems important to know exactly what is going out to FOH from the XLR outputs for every option I can select on the PC+. Avoids nasty surprises at the gig. Seems like a spreadsheet with all the PC+ modes listed and precisely what they output via XLR would be handy. If there are any parameters like for example a HF Cut that don't get sent universally those should probably be included as well. Anything like that out there yet?

Volume drop connecting Helix to PC Plus via L6 Link
HonestOpinion replied to soundmodeler's topic in Powercab
Seems like yrebrac's suggestion is the way to go. Has someone discovered a better method? Still waiting for my PC+ to arrive. From what I have read here so far it seems like adjusting Global Settings > Ins/Outs > 'Digital Out Level' (I am assuming this was the parameter yrebrac was referring to) would be the way to deal with the volume differences as it is a global option so it does not require a separate adjustment in every preset. As he stated, set it once and forget it. I know this global setting can control the AES/EBU level so I am assuming it is also able to control the L6 Link output level? Does it? Can't test this myself until it arrives. Also agree with yrebrac's last point which is that all other things being equal and set equivalently, ideally the digital, XLR, and 1/4 outputs should have output levels in the same ballpark but as long as raising the 'Digital Out Level' doesn't degrade the sound in any way the volume disparity seems easy to work around. -
Volume drop connecting Helix to PC Plus via L6 Link

And while you're waiting for your AES/EBU cable to arrive you can probably use any decent XLR cable. Best not to use a long one. -
Changing PC+ speakers per snapshot via L6 Link?
HonestOpinion replied to soundmodeler's topic in Powercab
You should be able to save just once per preset instead of every time between snapshots if you have 'Global Settings' > Preferences > 'Snapshot Edits'= "Recall". You can always set it back to "Discard" after you finish editing your presets/snapshots if you prefer using that mode for performing. -
Having friends who are absolute Apple fanatics I also don't want to get in a platform war but I have to say I am running on a couple of Windows desktop boxes and even a laptop that are probably about ten years old or close to it with Windows 10 installed and they are still running just fine although I also have a couple of laptops that are more recent. Have to say Microsoft has been pretty good about their OS versions having backwards compatibility with old hardware, especially in recent years. Matter of fact I have been kind of shocked that I have not been forced to upgrade my hardware already by Moore's Law or other advances. I just have not seen the kinds of exponential leaps in speed and operation in the last few years that kept me in a constant upgrade cycle for decades. Not saying boxes haven't gotten faster but they seemed to reach a sort of baseline several years ago where unless you were doing something like advanced graphics processing any slowness in older machines was fairly tolerable. 'Course I am not much of a gamer these days and you can always get an Xbox or PS4 for that. The only reason I would upgrade would be DAW latency issues. A lot of ills can be prevented just by throwing enough RAM at your PC. Guess I'm holding off to buy my first quantum computer. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006105/processors.html

How do you import 3rd party IR's to the powercab plus?
HonestOpinion replied to wizardman's topic in Powercab
Has anyone has tried first loading the IRs that are not working in the Powercab to their HX device, e.g. Helix? Let the Helix do the IR conversion to its native format as it accepts a wide range of IR formats. If it exports into Helix's preferred format(48kHz, 16-bit, mono, up to 2048 samples) then an export of the IR from the Helix and load into the Powercab might work just fine. Ideally the exported IRs from the Helix will match the format required by the Powercab. The spec required for IRs appears to be the same for both the Helix and the Powercab so I suppose it may come down to the backup format Line6 uses when it exports IRs from the Helix. If anyone tries this please let me know if it works. My Powercab is still on the way. If it does work my only concern would be that the IR export from the Helix remained a high quality and fairly accurate representation of the original IR. -
Great idea! I just got a PC+ 112 and I have an old L2M. If I ever used them together I think I would separate them for a better stereo effect rather than run them on top of each other. How difficult was it to balance them tonally so as not to get clashing or freakishly different sounds coming out of each? Does the L2M connection set up in stereo properly and separate the two cabs into left and right? Does changing a setting from the Helix on the PC+, for example the cab selection, do anything freaky to the settings on the L2M (I would think not)?

Can't say I am concerned about the battery charging through a TRS or a TS cable although I don't see why it couldn't; even if some short circuit or whatever protections had to be built in. The battery on my robo-tuning Gibson SG charges that way and it has never presented a problem. As others have stated as well as earlier devices do power the Variax but I do wish the VDI connection charged the battery. Sucks to have to remember to constantly pull it out of the guitar for charging. Put it off for too long and you have a dead battery that no longer recharges. So for anyone who is unaware of it, your battery is not charging via VDI. Would like to see Line6 make that happen in the next generation of Variax's. Maybe they figure if you are using VDI you don't need a battery but that is only until you need to update the Variax's firmware. That requires a battery unless anyone knows a way around that?

The video below shows the guitar. It does look like a Gibson ES-335 but half of those semi-hollow electrics look the same to me from afar anyway. So a semi-hollow with humbuckers on what sounds maybe like the middle(neck and bridge pickup) setting, that kinda looks like where it is in the video, and pretty much agree with the settings BBD_123 recommended. Have to say this might be lip synched. At the very least it has additional parts dubbed in. I don't see any strings or faux-strings keyboard player onstage. Btw, sorry to sound critical but IMHO smarmy string parts. Should have asked George Martin to arrange them instead.

This is hardly the height of political vitriol. To cast a more favorable (and naive) light on it, more like a "Get Out The Vote" message. :-) Hope you and rd2rk can resolve this amicably or let's get back to politics, it's less contentious :-) Btw, not accusing anyone of being a troll here but thanks for combining the word "troll" and "lol" in one post. Gave me a new abbreviation "tol" as in "troll out loud". Don't see it catching on but it makes me laugh.

You won't be the only one. "Nobody for President" (Wavy Gravy's campaign slogan)!

I try to keep my posts fairly apolitical so I know how you feel. Have never liked social media or forums much for discussing politics. Seems like the most polarizing views get rewarded with likes, there is little room for nuance, compromise, or veering off from the party line, whichever party you are in. Seeing as how you downvoted Soundog and kennyhickey though your complaint seems a bit disingenuous. You made your conservative politics quite clear here to anyone paying attention while simultaneously castigating political speech. I think everyone can tolerate the occasional political reference without voting people down for it although you're right, that does run the risk of getting distracted from our technical focus. There's enough division in the country already. Better to take a little jab of your own, hopefully with a comedic slant than to start trading downvotes. Just my opinion.

HX EDIT 2.82 works with Windows 7 now -Thanks Line 6!!!
HonestOpinion replied to ccouch7's topic in Helix
I am wondering if they changed how the Windows drivers installed in HX Edit 2.82. I know in earlier installs, e.g. 2.80, depending on which checkboxes were checked during the install ( they were mislabeled indicating that one of the drivers required for all HX devices was only for HX Effects if I am recalling correctly) the Windows driver would not get installed. Of course there is always the possibility that something in your install process or the state on your PC changed. -
Analysis paralysis. I know what you mean. Options are great but I think it would be helpful for every IR vendor to provide a subdirectory of just a handful or two of what they consider to be their best work; thankfully that practice does seem to be getting more common. Which IRs are best is subjective but for many of us who don't have the patience to wade through thousands of IRs, providing an area with fewer choices helps preserve our sanity and prevents my wife from finding me in front of my Helix stuttering like Max Headroom. She finds that alarming.

Thanks for contributing these. Could you post these at the link below as well. Trying to consolidate free IRs in one thread. Thanks!

His original link worked for me. Quite a bit of Mesa, Marshall, Fender, and others including some custom and bass cabs over there. https://soundwoofer.com/Library/Index

I propose putting the extra revenue into additional developers, extended warranties all around, free Helix backpacks for registered owners, and a renewed commitment to polyphonic processing. Who's with me? :-)
-
Just to confirm what method you are using to capo? Are you changing the custom tuning for each string under the Variax input block to change "capo" positions or do you have presets on the Variax set up for the various capo positions? Either way I would probably opt for using snapshots to switch them. A parameter on the Helix (e.g a Variax string tuning) as you know can only be assigned to one footswitch when you are using stomp assignments. If you want to capo by using custom string tunings on the Helix, snapshots are the way to go. They are also an easy way to switch through presets on the Vairax itself. Curious, why do you prefer to do this just using stomp assignments?

What makes you say that, ego or wallet? Infinite recursion. :-) Whether it exists or not, its a good idea to align altruism with self-interest. Encourage that $hit! Provide tax deductions for charitable giving. Let someone have their moment in the press for having done something good for others or a genuine act of heroism. For the most part, with some exceptions, it is no skin off my nose if doing the right thing helps someone's bottom line, enhances their reputation, or just makes them feel better about themselves. I'd like to believe it exists. Might be a matter of perspective as it is remarkable when you break things down how often there appears to be an ulterior motive. At the end of the day if someone is consistently kind I am happy to see it, regardless of any purity test regarding their underlying motivations. Oh, and btw, fizz :-)

Have you checked to make sure your HX Edit version matches your firmware? If they do match already I would definitely consider doing a backup, global reset, and restore. You seem to be getting some funky errors I haven't encountered yet.

I would tend to agree. Just because you create something that makes people more likely to pirate doesn't mean you are responsible for their actions. Doh, and then there's Napster. Anyone remember them?

I do agree with rd2rk that until a copyright lawyer chimes in here with a definitive analysis (probably not going to happen) we musicians are not going to be able to conclusively say what's legal and what's not. On the face of it though a lot of what's being proposed sounds doable.
