  1. That is really cool! I don't think the Helix has a way of emulating this.
  2. I'd love to try these out if you need more people to test! As for future development; I would love to see some more typical Fender speakers and cabs. It seems like all the IR makers do way more 4x12 cabs (although I do love those!)
  3. Very cool! Thanks for this.
  4. I would check to see if you have the global EQ engaged with an unflattering setting, check your input impedance settings, check that your output level suits your current listening setup (line or instrument ). It might even be worth backing up your presets and doing a reset to factory settings.

    I want this!!

I achieve similar results by using two separate paths. Each uses a different amp and cab and I pan one hard left and the other hard right. On one of the paths I use a 30ms delay with mix at 100% and no repeats. This gives a great double tracked type of sound.
  6. A new fuzz pedal Variax workbench integration Some editor updates (signal level/clipping indicator, footswitch naming) A couple of older Pod/M-Series effects ported over A high end reverb
  7. Pretty much the same experience I had. (Including success with previous updates) http://line6.com/support/topic/21531-a-word-of-warning-about-helix-20-update/ It all worked out well in the end, but I'll be very hesitant to do the next firmware update. It just made me realize that I've come to rely on my Helix for all my gigs and really didn't want to go back to my old setup.
  8. I'm considering a pedalboard/case for my Helix. Yours looks like the size I was considering, and it looks like it has a hard case top. What board is this?
  9. This is what happened to mine as well. Unfortunately, the support team was not able to find a reason why it happened. Luckily, they were able to restore it and get it updated and sent back to me pretty quickly. Might be best to contact them.
  10. Another update: I got my Helix back from Line 6 yesterday with the 2.0 update installed. Turnaround was fast - it took about a week total. I've only had a little time to spend with it, but all of the new 2.0 stuff seems very cool! I don't yet know if they have found the source of the problem, but I'll post here if they pass on any info to me. I've been very satisfied with the customer service from Line 6. It's great to have a company that handles support so well and makes sure the end user is taken care of.
  11. Windows 7 user. Yes, I followed the instructions completely. Yes, I had issues and my Helix has now been sent to Line 6 because it would no longer function. Details here; http://line6.com/support/topic/21531-a-word-of-warning-about-helix-20-update/
  12. I'm very happy with the tones and features on my Helix. It's allowed me to achieve the tones I want at gigs with an amazing amount of flexibility. It helps me to control the sound of my students in my lessons. It inspires me to play and have fun with the guitar. But, that is my reaction. If you aren't happy with it, there's no reason to feel obligated to keep it. Just like many of us would choose different traditional tube amps for our rig (Marshall, Fender, Vox, etc), we will all have different wants and needs in digital gear. For that matter, some will choose to return to analog gear. No harm, no foul.
  13. Thanks for sharing these! Looking forward to downloading and listening later tonight.
  14. Latest update; I've dropped off my Helix at UPS this morning to get shipped to Line 6. Hopefully they can get to the bottom of the issue. I believe that the vast majority of users have been able to update successfully. I just happen to be one of the unlucky few that ended up with a a non-functioning device. I'm really looking forward to getting it back and checking out all the 2.0 firmware has to offer.
  15. Tried to get the Helix working after updating Windows 7 on my studio computer (the laptop I had originally used is already up to date), but still no luck. I need to give a shout out to Frank Ritchotte who has gone out of his way to make sure I get taken care of. Great customer service!
  16. I just checked, and no it is not. I'm downloading updates now. I hadn't thought to check, so thanks for that!
  17. Thanks for the good advice, but I am am using a port on the back of the desktop.
  18. Thanks for the info. I did download and install the 2.0 version of the editor as my first step. After a couple of failed efforts, I downloaded and installed it again just to be sure the file hadn't been corrupted. I'll double check the instructions on the website to make sure that I've done the correct steps. That said, customer support walked me through 4 or 5 attempts while on the phone. Someone on TGP mentioned it may be an issue with USB 3.0 ports. I'm going to look into that hopefully tonight.
  19. I posted this on TGP, and I figured I should post here as well. I think others are having the same issue, so maybe we can help find the cause; I was unsuccessful with the Helix 2.0 update today. After using the Line 6 Updater on 2 different computers (both running Windows 7), my Helix is bricked. I get either a blank screen, or I get alternating Helix and Helix Rack logos. I finally called customer support. The guy I talked to walked me through the update process again with no success. Then he had me try to revert to 1.10 using the Updater software, but that didn't work either. Apparently, multiple people have had this issue and they have not been able to determine the source of the problem. The service rep said it doesn't seem to be a Windows/Mac thing. Unfortunately, I now have to send my Helix in to Line 6 and wait for them to find a fix. He said it may take a couple of weeks to resolve and fix the issue. I've got 2 gigs next week, so I'm going to have to go back to analog. Luckily, I haven't sold any of my pedalboard (I was thinking of doing exactly that!). I've come to really rely on the Helix, but I'll manage just fine. I just wanted to warn people about the issue.
  20. Yes it would, and yes it is! http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/JTV-Variax-Workbench-HD-using-Helix-VDI-as-interface/789597-23508
  21. I've used my speakers in front of me positioned as monitors. I hear myself great, but it doesn't send any sound out towards the audience. This obviously doesn't work in venues where the instruments are not going through the P.A. Even when my guitar is running through the P.A., there is still a quiet area close to the stage in some rooms. This is especially an issue since the other guitar and bass player are using regular amps so it can throw off the mix. I've used my speakers behind me in the traditional amp position. This makes for a better/more even mix out front, but I don't like the sound as much and I tend to push up the volume. My solution now is to do both. I put one speaker in front of me as a monitor positioned at a bit of an angle to aim it away from the rest of the band. I use a second speaker behind me where I would traditionally place my amp. I run the speaker positioned in front of me slightly louder so I hear myself well, but keep the perceived stage volume out front from being to loud. I've done this for a couple of gigs now and have been really happy with this setup.
  22. I'm very hopeful hat this will be in the next firmware update.
  23. This is what I do. I assigned the output volume of each path to seperate foot switches so I can use A or B or both.
  24. You can choose either Variax Magnetics or Variax as an input for each preset. Unfortunately, I don't believe there is a way to change this within a preset when using the VDI cable.
  25. In addition to the other great suggestions, try adjusting the mic setting so it is further from the speaker. Even moving it out to 3-4 inches instead of the default position can remove a lot of the undesirable low end due to the proximity effect.
