  1. Will check what's on IdeaScale when I get a chance, but I'd much prefer a gain reduction meter over just a 'threshold exceeded' light. Among other things, some amps compress too, so seeing the contribution the compressor's making would be helpful. And yes ears, of course, but as folks say, the value of gain reduction meters on compressors is well established, in both analog and digital worlds. This value is obviously known internally, all that's needed is a readout of it.
  2. My reaction to the idea that they're "a bit too similar" is that I wouldn't expect the same speaker in different cabs to be that wildly different. I'd expect different low end from cab size and shape, and maybe different low and high end from open vs closed back, but the smaller-scale wiggles in response that make different speakers sound different come from the construction of the speaker itself, and are going to be similar in any cab. If those wiggles weren't so important, it'd be much easier to emulate any speaker with just EQ and filters. I had a different reaction to the Redback samples than I usually do. Often I'm not that interested in open back tones, they don't have the fullness I typically like. But with the Redbacks, I really liked the open back 1x12, and I also liked the larger cabs, open and closed, so I got the whole pack, which I haven't done before. Haven't had a chance to see what I think about actually playing through them, we'll see...
  3. Open a support ticket. Support can help you be exhaustive about it, confirm everything, and if all else fails, take it in for service. I haven't heard of service being necessary to update a Helix that was otherwise working, but you never know. Line 6 support is aces in my experience.
  4. does that men you don't want to say what pedal it is? It's fine if you don't, just being clear.

    Helix case/bag

Thanks for your feedback Ted. I don't need a serious case at this point. It's just me in my car now, so the soft bag I have is fine, just keeping my eyes open for the future.
  6. Cool! What's the guitar distortion if not Helix?
  7. Not fixed, at least for me. What's your SoundCloud user name? It's probably your most recent upload there, right?
  8. Totally agree that some way of looking at and/or reverting to the saved version of a patch would be very useful, and so is reverting to the default. I'd love a Compare function, where you're hearing and seeing the saved version, can switch back and forth between saved and modified versions. That'd be useful both for seeing what the saved value was, and for checking whether you've actually improved matters with the past 2 1/2 hours of tinkering. Trick would be usability. BIG notice when you're in Compare mode Easy way to get out of Compare mode Easy way to permanently revert the patch to the saved version Compare version shouldn't be editable, for clarity, and so it's always the saved version. That's where it gets messy. What's the difference between editing and changing snapshots or pressing a stomp, both of which you'd have to be able to do for useful comparison. If folks have any thoughts on the ugly bits of #4, that feature could be a huge win in my book.
  9. I like the reset option personally, and I'm pretty used to the push-turn-turn-back manoeuvre. Just my opinion.
  10. Cool that more is planned for Boston this summer. Will you post about that here too? Like, would following you here mean I'd find out? I'm not so good a remembering to check a web site every some number of months...

    Helix case/bag

That's the first Helix case I've seen that you might throw in the back of the truck with the rest of the gear. Anyone know where to find it at a good price? Quotes I've seen are all over the place, but expensive. Probably heavy too, didn't see a spec.
  12. I'm yet another person who took a while to get happy, but I am. Haven't compared to Kemper or Fractal for financial reasons, but I'd much rather Helix than either of my current actual amps, and I have fun pretty much every time I play. I don't have much for specific suggestions, among other reasons because I'm not a high gain guy, but honestly, every player's touch and ears are different, you have to find your own happy place(s). Or not. I'm not sure what you were looking for if you have an amp rig you like, but there's no shame in doing that, or using Helix purely as a pedal board.
  13. Thanks for working this :) The note I left myself after our last meetup says 1:00, not 2:00, but it's completely possible I mis-typed it on my phone. I don't have a strong preference myself, depends how early folks can get free, and how much time they have "available". Looking forward to it!
  14. I'd happily trade a user setlist for however many more IRs that'd get us. But better IR management tools are way higher on my list in this area.
  15. What amp are you using? I've been working on a Supro patch, and there was distortion in my clean snapshot, until I backed both gain and master down quite a bit. So much so that I had to crank the gain on the post amp EQ way up to keep up with the other snapshots. So maybe try bypassing the amp, not to sound good, but to see if the amp block is distorting. There's a lot of variation in how different amps behave. If that's it, either do like I did with the Supro, or cost a different amp. Then again, it could be something completely different. Divide and conquer, bypassing blocks one at a time, see if you can figure out where the problem is.

    Helix case/bag

OT: Anyone considered the larger Plano case for a solid body guitar? I'm not 100% positive mine would fit, need to measure again, but it looks to be way better quality for less money than most actual guitar cases.

    Helix case/bag

Cool, thanks, cheap! Ran into this site that has pretty good prices on Plano cases. IMO, not having actually seen any of these, for the relatively small dollar difference, even though it's almost double, the Planos are going to be a lot better quality than that Flambeau.
  18. Ownhammer has two I think. There's the 412 MAR-CB LYNCH Expansion, a Lynchback in a 1970's Marshall 1960B checkerboard 4x12 cabinet, and the California Duo Collection has the same speaker in a Mesa Three quarter semi open back 2x12 (plus a bunch of other stuff). Really hard to tell how different those are from the samples on the site.
  19. Ah, that makes more sense to me, it was a hardware problem. And another line 6 customer service win!
  20. Oh, and maybe a strat, and/or new pickups :) But I really don't need another amp or pedal.
  21. Yeah. Sometime I just feel like exploring something new, and so far, there's always been some amp or overdrive or other effect combination or amp settings approach to play with THAT'S ALREADY IN THERE. No spendy anxiousness decision paralysis, shopping project, or hole in wallet, just turn some knobs and TRY IT, at 3 am if the mood strikes. Big win. Which isn't to say I'm not considering some new IRs, or that I'd kick a Kemper or Fractal out of bed... But actually spend what those other modelers cost? No way, not unless finances change, or I somehow decide I genuinely DGAF about that. Fact is, I've been having a blast w Helix, most guitar fun I've had in years.

And what costs 100k+? Please tell me not an AR15... Or am I completely misunderstanding what you said?

    Helix case/bag

Nice! What model is that, and how much does it weigh (the case by itself)? Quick googling found one that are a lot bigger inside than a Helix, like 37" long.
