Best option seems to me to be several pieces: - Save any number of named settings for each block type - Recall any of those settings into a given block of a preset you're editing - Set the default settings used when you first insert a block of that type. Probably that means choosing one of your named settings as the default, which probably means that updating those named settings makes the new version the default. If that's too much work short term, just the ability to save the current settings of an existing block as the defaults for that block type would be great.

What I REALLY wish is for a Compare button, to toggle between the saved and currently edited version of the patch. Would be really useful, to check if your edits are an improvement or not, and to see what the settings used to be.

Glad you're making progress :) Please excuse if what I'm about to say has been covered, don't have time to read everything right now, but ideally you build your patches to sound good to you without any global EQ, so you can use it to compensate for unusual room sound. Typically you'd apply the gobal EQ only to the 1/4" outs, which you'd use to drive your stage monitoring, and not to the XLRs, which you'd send to FOH. That way you can use it to make yourself happy without affecting the PA, which presumably gets adjusted by your sound person to work well in the room.

I know what you mean by it seeming odd, but clearly turning blocks on and off changes the preset, in a way you might, or might not, want to save. The logical consequence is that you modified the preset, and Helix indicates that.

It's not what you asked, but just to say it. one of the big advantages of the built in cabs is that a bunch of mic and distance variations are already on board. Unlike IRs, you don't have to pick a tiny subset of the available variations up front to load in your Helix. Unlike some folks, in spite of having played guitar for many decades, I don't have a ton of experience with piles of different cabs and speakers, so when I'm working on a patch, I'm not trying to duplicate some real world rig I know well and want to duplicate. I just try different stuff, adjust mics and/or distance and or amp settings and/or post-amp EQ, see if I like the result, and move on if not.

Don't think I'm expert enough to answer that, but also, you've got a huge variety of amp flavors there, not clear if you're going for maxed out slam, vintage mostly-clean, all of the above, or what. Suggest listening to samples of some combinations you like in the real world. It's tough though, the music and amp tones are so different for each of them.

Also, I hate to diss someone's work, but I think you'll have much better luck with Ownhammer, CabIR.eu, CelestionPlus, Redwirez, and the free Allure pack than 3Sigma. The 3Sigma stuff is very scooped and bright, might work great for some people, but not me, and I don't think my opinion is unique.

100% agree that it's important not to give yourself too many choices, especially at first. I can't find the quote right now, but one of the major IR makers actually says "do not listen to them all" :) For Ownhammer, suggest reading this: http://www.ownhammer.com/tutorials/general/ That includes this bottom line recommendation, using files in the Quick-Start directory: "The vast majority of the time for most people and with most libraries, OH1, OH1F, and/or SP2 are all that may be needed." Many people also find SP1 useful I think. Starting there, if you find yourself wanting a little more or less something, you can check out other variations. Personally, I pretty much always load up a very small set from each cab/speaker, usually only one. Limiting maybe, but I'd rather choose a different cab and/or speaker than faff around too much with variants of one. And as with all the built in cabs and mics (and amps etc), you don't have to use or master them all. Just make yourself happy in the moment, come back later and see if you still think it's cool/interesting/useful.

Not currently possible, and (not that I'm official anything) I doubt it ever will be. What exactly would "the same amp block" mean, when you can have up to four amp blocks, in different locations in the routing of each preset, some including a cab and some not? And do you really mean to change the settings for *every* preset, including the factory sounds, factory templates, and your own templates? Are you using snapshots? That might be a way for one preset to have "different delays, modulations etc but the same amp blocks", then the quote question goes away.

Very cool, thank you!

Seem to me that cab/mic/IR choice is completely relative to the amp settings you're using, and vice versa. If you build a patch listening through a 4x12 mic'd with the 4038 an inch away, then switch to a JBL 10" mic'd 12" out (no I don't know where to get such an IR), you'll probably hate it. But the reverse is true too. There's no such thing as an absolute standard here. You could probably get some cool sounds cranking tons of highs through a bassier cab, or less highs through a brighter cab. Sometimes I think we tend to be reactive, starting a patch through one cab, then judging other ones through the lens of that amp tone. You'd get really different results picking a cab first, flattening the amp controls, and working from there.

Well that's just downright awesome! I've come across a number of attempts at making an electric pickup sound like an acoustic, and IMO, that's far and away the best I've heard. Do you know if that's a commercial IR, or one he did? Is the patch available anywhere? Are you by any chance @cambersands?

With all due respect @shanecgriffo, Line 6 has expressed their long-term commitment to the Helix line many times, here and elsewhere, and has demonstrated it with multiple firmware updates, the LT version, the upcoming native version, and absolutely stellar customer support. If your comment was in reference to wanting improved reverbs specifically, fine, vote those requests up on IdeaScale. If it's a more general thing, honestly, I think you're off base.

There's no reason you couldn't apply the same "tone match" tech to a guitar signal as is used on amps/cabs. It won't be anything like perfect, but it's way cheaper and handier then buying a budget of guitars. If you have or can get hold of an EQ that can do matching, you might as well try it. That said, if you can't get the effects you're looking for with manually set EQs, it's unlikely the automated version will be radically better.

I know this is old news, but the more I work with IRs, the more I *really* wish there were more IR slots available. 128 sounds like a lot, but it's not. Pretty much every IR pack has a bunch of variations of mic type and placement, plus mic mixes. If you even want to just audition what's in a new pack, you need some space to do that. Yes I know you can use an external IR loader in your DAW, but I'm not mostly connected to a computer, and don't want to be. Some other IR management issues would be somewhat eased by more slots, for instance the inability to audition IRs directly from disk, stepping through directories of them. There are a bunch of pretty much duplicate IdeaScale entries about this, for instance this one, which has links to some others. I suggest voting them all up.

Helix has lag/momentary dropout switching presets too, that's why God invented snapshots. I'm not sure how that ended up as such a big differentiator.

Thanks for your experience, good to know. Ever compared them to DXR10s or DBR10s?

Same price at GC, on clearance, must be a new version coming soon. It's listed as PRX 710 everywhere but that Sweetwater page. Wish I was feeling more flush ATM. They're heavier than my Alesis's, but significantly louder, which actually was a problem in the huge barn I last used them in, and less expensive than anything else I've seen in that class.

Alesis Alpha 112 (what I have now) $200 Max SPL 123 db continuous (they say) Weight 31 lb

PXR 710 $399 on sale Max SPL 133 db Weight 36 lb DBR10 $399 Max SPL 129 DB Weight 23 lb DXR10 $599 Max SPL 131 db Weight 31 lb

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PRX710 No personal experience with them, just know the brand, specs seem roughly in line w DBR10s, price seems good. They say it's $200 off.

Digging out this old thread, I missed the Vox freebie, and I don't see any Vox IRs on the site. Did that project get cancelled? I have the MR-PIN68_G12M20 and OR-4X12_G12H30 packs, really like them both a lot, great stuff.

Suggest contacting Fremen directly, see what he says. May be set up for multiple pedals maybe.

Really really really nicely done! Bravo!
