  1. Agree, nice piece. And less money than a Helix, but pretty limited FX.
  2. Really nice. Acoustic sound is really good, especially for a piezo.
  3. Maybe what I'm remembering is that it used to be global, but a semi recent update made it per preset. Carry on.
  4. Upgraded the firmware in my Blackstar ID:60 this morning. I installed the new editor, connected the amp, it told me there was new firmware available, with a button to install it. Hit the button, waited, done. Zero reloading, rebuilding, or manual resetting, just done. The site suggests that you back up first, but I didn't need that backup in the end.
  5. In in my experience, the string is sharp right after being plucked, so muting quickly gives a stable but inaccurate result.
  6. Hmmm, that's too bad. Although the actual communication is bidirectional, you're right it would need a physical adaptor. Is there such a thing?
  7. Agree with the comment in another thread that the frequency of upgrade glitches lately is disappointing. Love it when they fix bugs or add features, but they've got to get the basics right too, and not break stuff. At minimum, I'd say there's some weakness in their upgrade testing process. Bugs users find in day ideally should get discovered before release.
  8. Thanks a ton for doing that test roscoe5. I love having ACTUAL information in these cases. So much of the amp-guitar-player-ears interaction is subjective, it's really easy for rumors to take hold in the community, and this is one case where we can KNOW.
  9. USB stick export and import would rock, both for daily workflow like you're describing, and in case you had to grab a last-minute replacement out of town. I think it's up on IdeaScale.
  10. Not at my Helix, but is there a global setting for whether input z is global or per preset? If so, did you put back your global settings after upgrading? (Has to be done manually, they can't be exported or imported.)
  11. Just to say it, a colored display and footswitches doth not the Helix UI make! A big part of why Helix is so fluid to get around on the the huge number of actions you can do, with all those rotatable, pushable, clickable, and touchable input devices. Haven't watched the video or otherwise looked into the Headrush thing yet, but I'd be surprised if they built all that. If so, kudos to them. In any case, it is nice to see the impact Helix is having, upleveling the state of the art.
  12. Thanks akousticplyr, reading on my phone those options aren't there. Switched to full view, unfollowed the forum itself, followed those two topics, I think, a bit of weird interaction there maybe, we'll see how it goes. I read on the web anyway, so I don't need general thread notifications, but I don't always notice changes to the pinned stuff, so hopefully this'll be better.
  13. Is there some way to get an email when there's a new firmware or editor release? The notifications thing here seems to be stashing hundreds of notifications for me, like for every msg posted, but I don't get emails for them, and if I did I'd shut them off, too many. But new releases I'd want to know about.
  14. Not doing it any more, but I gigged pretty constantly for decades, as a musician, soundperson, and custom electronics guy, and I get that you don't feel like you have the power to stand up to this guy. In some senses you don't. If you don't play, other warm bodies will, and neither the club or the sound guy will care much about the stand you took, or feel it as a big loss. You're dealing with a guy who has enough experience to make him think he rules the roost, but who hasn't worked with your type of rig before, so uncertainty and defensiveness are kicking in. Didn't think there were many pros left who haven't dealt with modelers, but there you have it. So you've got two choices: Stick to your guns, or do your best to get along, like it seems your instincts are telling you to. If you go that way, be calm and rational. Offer him choices, so he feels in control. (XLR vs DI, for instance, either of which get you where you want to be.) However it goes, and however you feel about your interaction and the result, you can decide what to do for next time.
  15. The Power Engine does seem much more likely to mic up well than an FRFR with a separate tweeter. DI seems sonically preferable, maybe less scary for the sound guy, and as others have said, something he's almost certainly going to do for other instruments. Maybe try asking what exactly he's concerned might happen that could damage his gear.
  16. Don't think you can change the Q on any of the Helix wahs, kind of a weird omission if you ask me.
  17. Any chance you got logged out somehow, maybe your session timed out?
  18. Question is, does the display accurately show which preset will get written. It's possible some sequences of actions cause a different preset to to be pointed at than you expect, but if it correctly says what it's going to do, it'd require some care, and is arguably poor UI interaction, but might not exactly be called a bug.
  19. Same thing happened to me. Only one USB port works reliably for Helix, where there others work fine for everything else. Weird, but sorted.
  20. Helix can emulate the tone characteristics of various amps, but it can't actually drive a speaker, it's not a power amp.
  21. Yes but you have to hook those returns into every preset. That's the OP's original question I think, how not to have to do that.
  22. Ah, understood. I was just thinking about a web-based tool along the lines of the ones you and I each made, and making people zip up their preset directories and upload is less handy than just uploading setlists. When I have a chance to explore further I will.
