That bears out my theory that the cab block cuts aren't as steep as a dedicated EQ. Are you saying that an EQ block hi cut after the cab has less effect than the same thing before the cab? Or is that sentence still comparing to hi cut within the cab block itself, which I strongly suspect is different processing altogether?

I saw it recently while tweaking presets and playing. Lights were correct at startup, noticed they were confused some time later. Fine again after restart.

TBH, I hear way more top end on yours. I might feel differently if I hear his track in isolation, ad/or at higher fidelity, but side by side here it seems clear.
-
To my ear, the speaker/IR high cut seems not very steep, maybe 6db/octave. I think L6 has said that for the built in cabs, it behaves like the actual cab, not sure. But I've often wished for both steepness and resonance controls. My hope would be to do a better job of losing the inappropriate highs, while boosting a bit just below where that roll-off kicks in, to keep it from turning to mud.

Listened to that clean patch several times in good phones, didn't notice anything I really objected to, or that sounded fake or un-amp-like to me.. The other two tones, OTOH, have a bunch of top end hash that I'm not a fan of, whether real amps are like that or not. Kind of blowsey bottom end on those too, but Sean seems prone to that. I don't understand how the clean is the most objectionable tone on there. Some of this may just boil down to different strokes.

No experience with it myself, but I think I remember folks here talking positively about it. It's the stupid deal of the day at MF, $299.99, http://www.musiciansfriend.com/stupid

Yeah, that'll help ;)

I've seen it intermittently, no computer involved. Not common for me, but disconcerting. Firmware 2.11, didn't upgrade to 2.12 because I thought it came w this issue, but recently I've seen it occasionally anyway.

Best method of setting patches levels to the same volume??
zooey replied to JLEpperson's topic in Helix
FYI, you can also turn individual blocks on and off with footswitches, multiple blocks at once too. But snapshots give you the most flexibility and control. -
A preamp before an amp is cool too. Boost, but with tone controls, and its own overdrive if you want it.

Those highs are very gone, like in a real Leslie. You can brighten things up some with EQ, but I've never been able to really undo that effect that way. Running a cab or IR in parallel works much better for me.

Great story Ric! Re picks, I like really stiff picks, much better control. Used stone picks for a while, really big ones, don't remember who made them. Still have them, you're right, they really don't wear at all. Two things got me away from those. First, they aren't great for strumming, sounds like you're bashing the crap out of the strings, because you kind of are. Second, once you hear the little tiny chirping sounds they make on the strings, transient ghost bottleneck player up near the bridge, you're screwed. Great tone, except for that. I've been using Jazz IIIs for years, pretty stiff, nice tone, but not like stone. You're making me think about revisiting stone-land again. Troy is great, definitely improved my right hand, but it only got me so far. Probably a lot of that is pure time in, don't have a ton of playing time available, and 50-something years of habits to undo. Also frankly, while I sometimes wish I could do what pretty much every 16 year old on YouTube can whip out in his sleep, I'm more interested in feel than speed really.

Another vote for this getting fixed ASAP.

Don't have three link handy, but if I'm not mistaken, similar problems have been reported by others in 2.12.

One thing I've done for sustain while recording is put a boatload of compression on the monitor chain, only, not recording it, and stand really close to the speaker. Lots of natural feedback, even pretty quiet.

If I remember right, a tool for adjusting pedal resistance is included w Helix.
-
Ditto, I'm not on Facebook. Is there any other place to hear this? Doesn't seem to be on your soundcloud.
-
We'll there you go, it matters in your case, whether it's about load impedence or not. And it sounds like you've got a good solution, so you're all set.

I've messed with Helix through a Blackstar ID 60, didn't blow me away. Detail here: http://line6.com/support/topic/25189-blackstar-id60-revisited/

In my non-electric-violin experience, 1 meg is a very typical don't-load-the-preceding-thing value. Anything whose impedence is high enough for that to be a significant load is going to be very detrimentally loaded by any likely length of any likely type of cable, regardless of what you plug it into. That said, use your ears and your experience. If you've had problems with that sort of impedence before, or hear bad things with the helix input, do what you have to do. I wouldn't go buy something for this purpose without knowing for sure if you're fixing a problem you actually have, but that's just me, I'm cheap. If you already have something with higher impedence, you might as well compare with and without it, then you'll know if it matters.

Of course it's all relative, but is it loud enough to keep up with a punchy drummer?
-
Not news, but less distortion helps you be heard too. I've also been experimenting with lowering bias on gainier patches, for the same reason.

Interesting Massimo. How do you like it? I've wondered about a line array for guitar, but between price and not many others using them for this application, I just let it go. Would be interested to know how it's working out for you. Just electric guitar?

Agree also.
