Are you using the rack and controller, or the floor version? With the rack it has been advised to use the exp pedal Jack's on the back of the rack if you experiencing these kind of problems when connected to the exp Jack's on the controller.... it solved it most of the time for me.

Enjoy... i wish I could say I have had time to fully play with the new update.. New year pencilled in... Bending down twiddling things, yes I got so much back shoulder neck pain from that with past fx units, that it was one of the deciding factors to go with the rack... hx edit also very good for back saving.... roll on the day of AI where you merely but think of what you want and the modeller hears the sounds of your thoughts and produces the desired settings ... haha one day! maybe?? I will be long gone by then....

Have come across many situations where this would be good...

Great thanks for all of that

Yes to this... have same problem with send returns triggered when scrolling...

Thanks tooIm Feeling a bit better now...

Just to say. I really like the default values as a starting value to compare against. I'm not saying be rid of defaults.. i appreciate the work and thought that went into providing a default setting to start from as I'm guessing who ever thought of the defaults had good reasons for those defaults... but that's what it should be just a default to start from and compare against. And then allow you to add your own personal global default values too... there you have 2 default values saved to toggle between and then compare the currently dialled in value against helix default and personal default.. But then again how does it work. 1. Helix default 2. Personal global default value 3. Last saved value for the patch you working on 4. Current value dialled in you wanting to make comparisons against So it gets a bit complex.. 4 values potentially needed... 4 presses of the dial... is that too many? For what it would offer i would be happy. Maybe in main menu you could choose ways the default, personal global, last saved value and current values works and which value types to include... e.g. some people may just want their last saved value and current value to toggle, etc etc Also you would want the ability to toggle these values to be extended to the footwsitches as well as the dials... so you can hear the changes whilst playing... ahhh that would be so goooooodd....... Just to let line 6 know your efforts on the defaults are very appreciated it's just we are tied to them that causes expletives...
-
Totally agree. There are a few things i wished helix had like a level meter but it doesn't irk me too much as they just pure not included, whereas the values defaulting every time pisses me off... exactly because it has been dictated that's how it works and always i think why am I stuck with someone elses idea of what the values should toggle to or reset to everytime. In this area of design It's like a pre 2000 modeller in that it can't move between default, last saved and just dialled in values... its 2017 ... here's hoping for 2018... sorry line 6 your work is great but this area is a wind up...This needs serious thinking about the redesigning in how it works as the helix is great in so many ways but I agree this is the one area where 100 plus times a day I go oll for f**k sake just return to my values not the default values or give me the ability to toggle between default, saved and current values... surely helix has enough memory to do this... Would save me a lot of swearing everyday... Maybe line 6 already onto this as it must irk a lot of people at line 6 too as it's just plainly not intuitive to a users immediate needs on the fly whilst tweaking patches and when creating patches from fresh.... and the whole transitioning settings from amp module to preamp module is a nightmare again makes me feel like I'm back in the 90's.... Sorry to grumble at you helix you are great but you will get greater I'm sure 😀

Yes that's where i was going... been very unwell... i couldn't get to the point on this one... save your settings to default or have a way of toggling between saved value, value just dialled in and the default...
-
Highlight and toggled between Default value, saved value, and the new value dialled in to allow instant comparing on the fly... Someway of showing when you have reached either the default setting value for a parameter or the previous saved setting value for that patch. E.g.. for example let's say your adjusting the bass setting in an amp. The default for the bass is 5.3, but the last used/saved value is 3.2.... would be good if when you got to 3.2 and 5.3 the display let you know you had reached the default or the last saved used value. Also at the moment you can move straight to default value by pressing the dial... May be two quick presses would take you to the value you last used. And how about toggling between values toggled back and forth so you could compare between the new valued dialled in, the previous saved value and the default value. Struggling to best convey this as unwell in this moment...

This on ideascale https://line6.ideascale.com/a/idea-v2/916915 .... "Global amp combo/preamp quick swap for all presets. When you are running Helix through a real amp it's advisable to use the preamp version of the amp that is saved in the preset. Currently you have to go to the preset and select preamp but then you are taken to the top of the list. I know it is minor, but it would be much faster to swap between FRFR and real amp applications (depending on the gig) if when you selected preamp/amp+cab and it defaulted to whichever amp you were already on instead of having to find it in the list. BETTER YET, IT WOULD BE A GREAT GLOBAL SETTING TO CHANGE ALL OF THE AMP COMBOS TO PREAMPS AND VICE VERSA FOR THIS APPLICATION" .... I would also add that the settings for the preamp should match the settings for the preamp part of the original amp in the patch, rather than when you move from an amp to a preamp version of that same amp the settings for that preamp are defaulted rather than mirroring the original settings for that amps preamp in that patch. There is a lot of room for improvements to help people using the sending of helix preamps into real poweramps
-
Separate power amps for the seperate preamps. Level meter on all blocks and at output stage... Mic placement movement for the cabs. Better reverbs. Hardware... Foot control with two built in pedals, those pedals with on off switches, for use with the rack
-
I hear you Brother.... if it's flowing just fine why complicate things... just plug in and groove
-
Haha too much measuring tweaking updating blogging and forum reading and replying and not enough music making....
-
Fairplay just hoped I could persuade you to update as it's worth it in my opinion... many improvements... seems many people wanting different things... maybe line 6 will end up going down the packs of amps and fx route so users only have to upload the stuff they want. I imagine if line 6 were to offer everything everyone wanted it would cost them in developing and catering for all the different needs... would they offer packs as free updates or charge for packs to cover the increased development costs... would people pay for packs if it gave them exactly what they wanted... purely hypothetical
-
No offence but you don't have time for updates because of the time spent tweaking but you have time to post an update tweaking on about not liking tweaking... in the time spent on this post you could have taken the brave step and updated, which is now so quick and easy, and hear how good the updates since 2.11 are and how stable they are too... Change is good for us... Be brave brother take the step into the unknown... you might be pleasantly surprised... Next year gonna see some great developments for helix according to those in the know... Right now I'm really happy with this update which was always just an interim update on the transitional path taking in the changes brought about by native and a new editor and the new architecture needed for bringing everything into the land of 3.0 next year... was happy before 2.3, I'm even more happy now and expect i will be more happy with 3.0. But i respect each to their own... if it aint broken dont fix it... but if a new even better version is available that line 6 have spent thousands of man/woman hours on bringing us and testing it... at least trust their innovations enough to try them before deriding their efforts as too risky or not worthwhile... there are some gems waiting for you in the updates since 2.11.... take that brave step ... it is worth it... no offence meant. Peace enjoy

P.s. all the cables you use in a set up should be quality cables... so if you using send returns, external fx, routing to power amps, xlr to P.A / studio speakers and the like... then use proper cables for all those connections too... not just for the cable from guitar to input... the aim is to maintain the integrity of the signal at all points in the chain... Then you get into the realm of figuring out what length cables you need... hence bespoke made to your specs... no point using a 2 metre cable to attach two pieces of equipment that are next to each other where 50cm would suffice.. Both in terms of cost of lengths of cable used but more importantly the shorter the cable runs in your set up the better the signal is maintained... Pen paper and tape measure needed and thinking about different set ups and what's needed in different venues... a small box of different lengths has become part of my kit... P.p.s... when measuring up, use a cable to run from point A to point B and mark the cable with your hand where point B is on the cable and then use the tape measure to measure the length of cable you holding... this is because tape measures don't always bend and lay on the floor like a cable does and you get a wrong measurement.... I Think that's covered most of it for ya...

Van Damme make excellent cables.. one of the best if not the best for the price as not as pricey as mogami and others... All the top guitar techs and engineers I know use them and make them for their clients and their clients are top guitarist's! ... that speaks for itself as well as the many guitarists i know that use them... Van Damme Pro / Tour Grade classic XKE instrument cable - choice of cable colours and boot ring colours.... Pro grade is more flexible, Tour grade more rugged... Get them terminated using silver based solder to a couple of Neutrik NP2X-B or one NP2X-B and a Neutrik silent jack... Either a NP2X-AU-Silent straight jack plug, or, NP2RX-AU-Silent right angle jack plug - depending on the guitar socket and socket angle preference... I like right angle to get cable out of the way... Where abouts are you based?... i know couple techs in UK that hand finish the cables to bespoke... cheaper than commercial bespoke van damme stockists... The difference a proper top of the range cable makes compared to bog standard cable is huge... but that doesn't mean the most expensive or flashy branded cables are the best... there is plenty of brands claiming to be much better than the cable they actually use so beware... also beware that the difference a quality cable will make to your sound and dynamics compared to low grade bog standard cable... it might mean you find yourself tweaking all the patches you made with that bog standard cable or you may just be perfectly happy with the overall improvement the cable makes... I remembering plugging into an ac30 using the van damme cable after using a bog standard cable and suddenly I understood the vox amp in a way i had never heard it before... I'm always amazed when I meet a guitarist who has great kit and guitars and pick ups but they use a poor cable or over hyped expensive cable... Enjoy the difference in quality to your tone, dynamics and signal clarity it will bring...

"Because we only distribute directly in the US that is the only region we can offer these products". Ummm sent all the way from China but only direct in the USA... so is China to usa more direct than China to Europe or Australia etc... come on line 6 step up to offering the rest of the world the same level of customer service and perks!!!

The service plan sounds fantastic and is very much needed and i applaud line 6 for going all out to offer line 6 helix users such great long term support for the helix. It's a pricy product and I do worry that if something major goes wrong it will be a costly repair or replacement. Also for them to be happy to offer towards the end of the first two warranty period is a real statement of customer service. I have been looking for extended service plans in the UK but haven't come upon anything that feels a solid service plan. Has anyone in the UK taken out a private service plan that they can recommend? Or an isntrument insurance that includes a service plan / extended warranty? For now line 6 helix service plan is only in the USA... ummm so you can sell it to the rest of the world but not offer a service plan... why? No doubt some corporate internal supply blah blah blah as usual.. that us in the rest of the world never quite understand or accept as a reason... does it really cost that much to bulk send to rest of world.... isn't it made in China after all.. it has to travel a long way to reach USA too and then distributed internally! So after buying a rack and control in the UK at a price much higher than on offer in the USA and at a time when only usa customers got a free mission pedal now usa customers can look forward to a great service plan. Sure wish the rest of the world got the same perks and after purcahse care especially when we have to pay more for the same product and don't get me started on the extra cost of the rack and controller and pedal vs the floor version. Love the helix and all that line 6 doing with it... just sometimes outside the USA we feel pushed out of the deals and perks... Let's hope they extend the service plan to rest of world as it should be... Right that rant over.. back to enjoying my sensitive helix who is feeling a bit upset today about the inequality that it's designer seemingly doesn't care as much about it as it's USA sibblings.

I would love to be able to use pre amp and power amp blocks. I use a wet dry wet set up and this would open up possibilities of routing of signals. Having said that the current set up works great. My only concern regarding the suggestions of putting fx loops between the preamp block and power amp block is the adding of noise from the send returns between the pre amp and power amp - which is a very critical place to be adding any noise especially if you add any amount of gain in the pre or power amp blocks or from whatever is placed in the loop. If I had a choice between separate pre and power amp blocks OR the ability to move the mic placement on cabs and also the ability to use two cabs with two different mic types and two different placements I would vote for that over sepearate pre power amp blocks as the amps are already great but the cabs definitely need some extra flexibility and options. The helix is amazing in what it does and the possibilities of what u could do and what improvements could be added must be endless. I imagine line 6 have a long list of possibilities but only so many can make it to the end product in terms of the improvements they bring vs time and costs to implement them and with an eye on the growing competition hawking around at this price point. Of course we all have our own dream list of what we want helix or a dream modeller to do.... you know the dream married to a dream of infinite processing power and hardware and firmware... So many possibilties - I'm excited to see where helix is going over the next 2 - 4 years... im commited to the helix journey.. Let's face it what we have at our creative disposal today is freaking amazing compared to 10 - 20 year ago... the future will be fun but it's already great fun today, not a criticism but don't lose sight of what it does already so brilliantly - that not so long ago we were dreaming of in the same way we always dreaming and looking forward to what it might do in the future - constantly evolving... Kind of a paradox... one amp and one guitar used to be good enough... some days with helix I'm happiest when I'm just dialed into one setting and seeing how I can manipulate the guitar thru playing it to achieve that goal of musical creative bliss... that's the only thing with digital - it can do so much it can get in the way of appreciating what is in your hands and ears already and being truly creative in the moment. And also the getting slightly frustrated at getting caught between what it can do and what you wish it could do and what would be the best way to implement - that can cloud what it actaully already does so well. But we are allowed to dream its what keeps us all evolving in every aspects of our lifes. I am married to evolving digital dreams forever now... I wonder what helix dreams of at night! haha... ummm back to reality - which amp should I plug into now - choices choices choices! we are spoilt my friends and it's great.. keep dreaming and evolving.... off to watch bladerunner in a bit - is helix the precursor to making machines that mimick human qualities - - i mean in the greater schemes of things learning how to model amps to serve our needs for greater tools than ever before is one step away from modelling humans to serve our growing mdoern needs... the greatest compliment you can pay is to take the time to learn to copy and emulate that thing you admire so much - we been doing it since cavemen listening to birds singing and then mimicking the sound they make by blowing into their hands.... we are mimickers... Intersting the other night seeing a bbc doc - Niles rodgers and Bernard edwards talking about the creative process - that if all you end up doing is copying whats gone before youve missed the point - its to learn from whats gone before and come up with something new and original, a new take on things and utilise the current tools around you at that point in time the best you can. And that really in the long term is the mission statement for digital modellling - lets see what it can come up with that is truly new and innovating rather than just pure copying... nothing wrong tho with a great emulation of a plexi amp... but im looking forward to seeing modelling tech push the envelope of what new tools it can bring to the musicians creative pallete and process and performance.. enjoy!

Also using the multi input setting raises the noise. I always switch to guitar only as it is quiet compared to multi. Flick through the inputs. Aux input, mic input, send returns all cause noise without anything being plugged in. This is frustrating as using the aux or a return to plug in another guitar results in a noisy signal compared to the lovely low noise guitar input socket especially if you start using any amount of gain thru aux or a return. Question why dont the send returns and aux have as low a noise floor as the guitar input? I sure wish they did ! I love my helix but i wish it had two guitar inputs both with the low noise and variable impedance selector.. as the main guitar input is ace, two wud have been so good. The aux input just doesn't seem much good for much at all to the point where the return is recommended to be used instead.
