The 6AA pack can work if you get good quality NiMh batteries and have a decent charger. You need two of them. You should get about 6 hours out of 2500mAH AA batteries. I have not every had any problems doing this with my old 500.

It's fine to use it on the nut slot. If it's still sticking, you may need your nut worked on.
-
If you are not using it you should not leave it in the guitar IMO. These batteries do die if they ever discharge too far. I think the Variax does discharge this battery at a very low rate when you are not using it. I think it will last a lot longer on the shelf.

I have several. One is a Fender cable that came with my Strat years ago. They are all good quality standard guitar cables.

Original Variax also came with the power supply which needs the TRS cable. When running with battery, you do not need a TRS cable. I play all of my Variax's with a standard guitar cable with battery power. That is what the manual tells you to do.

No it does not need the battery to play the mag pickups through the 1/4 inch cable.

Variax USB JTV-59 vs Bass
Charlie_Watt replied to sappyse107's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
I think the new and old adapter are the same. I have no experience with the bass but I do have experience with older Variax and they do work with the newer adapter. -
The OP said he tried the shim trick. No excuse for a brand new guitar to not work out of the box. The Variax was designed to work on batteries with a standard guitar cable. The manual doesn't say differently! It does not come with a TRS cable!

I am sorry but TRS is not necessary to work any Variax with an amp when running on the battery!

Return it. IT sounds like it is defective. The modeling is activated by pushing down on the modeling knob. IT should then light up and the models should work.

Variax USB JTV-59 vs Bass
Charlie_Watt replied to sappyse107's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
It's the software. WB HD only works with the JTV and newer guitars. The older ones need to use the old standard workbench software. -
Yes you have to remove the battery to charge it. Leave it in the charger overnight the first time. You should get four leds lit when you push the test button on the battery box when it's fully charged.
-
Using it is easy. Just charge the battery, plug in and play.

update older variax with HD please

By a 69S. They are very nice guitars! -
You want to search for a TRS cable.

Right handed Variax guitars restrung
Charlie_Watt replied to edrury101's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
You can't do this without also reversing the Piezo sensor order or the modeling will be hosed up. That is possible if you know what you are doing and know your way around a soldering iron.- 6 replies

The 500 acoustics come up on Ebay every so often. They are not that easy to find. Good luck though. I like mine. I have both a 500 and an acoustic.
