  1. 3-5 msec delay difference isn't going to be very noticeable. Think of it as playing through two amps that are 3 to 5 feet apart.
  2. I know folks that are the same with their cars. They are always in the shop with one problem or another. I keep mine at least 10 years and they never go to the care dealer for anything. And I have not had a single failure with any of my Line6 gear in the past 10+ years. I am a believer that most of us make their own luck.
  3. No need to switch your interface. That is more a level thing and the Variax outputs are instrument levels which are lower than line levels. You do not need to match impedance here. What you want is the input impedance of your devices to be higher than the output impedance of your guitar. Passive pickups are higher impedance than a buffered output which makes cable length affect your tone. This is not intended but it's a result of the fact that the pickups have lots of turns of very fine wire. The combination of the pickup and the guitar cable has a LRC resonance so it does modify your tone. The cable is capacitive and the pickups are inductive / resistive. This is a fairly subtle effect unless you go with a very long guitar cable though.
  4. I am waiting for USB to PC functionality. My Iphone is just too small for this stuff and my wife uses her Ipad all the time and I don't have my own. I use a laptop all the time with my JTV and HD500x. I like the concept of this product for home use. I want a high end Bluetooth speaker for playing music - and I would play my guitar through it sometimes too.
  5. VDI is serial digital as far as I know. I have not scoped it though.
  6. Very true. Mags are completely passive through the 1/4 inch jack. Not so through the VDI though.
  7. I am sure that the output is low impedance - buffered since it's coming from a DAC.
  8. Does it work when running with the batteries? If so, then the problem has to be getting the power supply voltage to the board through the TRS connection in the jack.
  9. Or go for an aftermarket neck like Warmoth. Necks made for a Strat will fit fine and you can get anything you like that way for not much more than the cost of a refret.
  10. More DSP doesn't mean any different sound if it's the same models! If they had improved the models they would have been bragging about it!
  11. Nice Videos. My 500 and JTV don't sound like that - must be something about my lack of talent!
  12. You can have frets replaced individually. Just need to get a piece of the proper fret wire. If you go replacement, I would go with something other than Line6.
  13. They are not going to release it until it's ready. This stuff takes time. They made priority choices and they happen to have picked a platform that you don't want. I won't buy it even though I have an iphone5s. It's too small for my old eyes. I use a laptop for my music and I want USB connectivity and an app that runs on my laptop before I will consider this product.
  14. The holes not being the same has been a problem with Variax neck replacements from day 1. You can order it from Warmoth without the holes drilled. Then you can drill them yourself lined up with the Variax body holes. This has been discussed on the old forum years ago. By the way, I agree that the nut picture here shows the strings cut too deep - and the nut is probably set too deep in the neck also. The top third at least of the wound strings should be above the top of the nut slot.
  15. Does it work with batteries? If so, there is very little to troubleshoot since it picks up power on the TRS connector.
  16. If you think it's a loose connection I would try to find it. You will probably not find a wiring harness anywhere for a 500.
  17. For same scale length, tension will be the same on every guitar when it's in tune with the same strings. Physics says it has to be.
  18. Can't take a joke????? Nobody was serious on their replies.
  19. I don't recommend it. The previous versions of Variax did not have it and many folks tried to stuff a 1/4 inch jack into the VDI connector - easy to do if you are not looking like when your guitar is hanging around your neck and you feel down there for the jack. Ruins the jack. The cover prevents that.
  20. Windows doesn't think the driver is installed. It is definitely a windows problem not a Pod problem. Does it look for drivers when you plug in the Pod USB? It should be searching for the drivers. I would uninstall the driver and plug in the pod and wait for windows to search for the drivers. Make sure they are on your PC to be found.
  21. You have to take into account that it's the 0.1% that have problems that post about them here. I agree that some have problems but the data here is skewed because most users never post here.
  22. ??? Never ever had a driver problem with Line 6 stuff. It's most likely a PC setup problem since this stuff works fine for 99.9% of all Line6 users.
  23. Another advantage of the coated strings is that they squeak less when you move your fingers over them. Some of the Variax models are very sensitive to this.
