Sounds like you have a bad solder joint in there. I would send it to Line6 for repair.

Mixing Magnetics With Models

Reason I say that is that I believe that the Mags are directly switched by the 5 way switch on my 69S. -
Mixing Magnetics With Models
Charlie_Watt replied to dtray187's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
My guess is that it blends the pickups based on the selector switch position so you might have to move your models around to get the blending you like. -
I've been playing with it a couple evenings now with no issues. The updates went without a hitch for me. I updated my JTV on my Windows 7 PC but I use WB and Edit on my very old Laptop with XP. The HD500x connectivity makes WB useful. I have not tried it but I assume that we can now update our JTV FW with the Pod too instead of having to dig out the Dongle.

Win7 does have an XP compatibility mode. It's most likely Java that is causing the problems.

Variax Jtv69s Workbench Hd Error
Charlie_Watt replied to pete001's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Battery is not used or even necessary when using the JTV with a pod through the VDI cable. Lithium batteries often require a separate charger. Proper charging is critical. -
Switching is quieter for sure. Not sure about quicker but they seem quick to me when turning the knob or moving the 5 way. Having WB work with my HD500x is a great improvement. I wasn't ever using WB because it was a PIA to use the separate interface. Now I can use Edit and WB while playing through my HD500x!

Jtv 69 Workbench Problem

And your volume knob turned up. Sounds like he might be missing the 1/4 inch jack. -
Replacing Magnetic Pickups
Charlie_Watt replied to tscoolberth's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Lots of folks have swapped pickups. There are wiring diagrams posted in this forum. Search for them. It's not hard to do if you know how to solder to the board where the pickups connect. -
Sg Sound On Jtvariax
Charlie_Watt replied to MatB39's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I have not tried this and I don't own an SG to copy but I would Start with Lester and try changing the pickups to match your SG.- 20 replies

I doubt that it's a FW problem since not everyone is complaining about it. These are obsolete products so Line6 is unlikely to release any changes to them.

I used the USB dongle to update the JTV because I did not know if it would work through my Pod. I copied the flash file to my PC before doing the update and I had Monkey update from the file. That takes the internet out of the update picture. It worked fine first time. WB works great with my HD500x connected to my Dell Laptop running XP. It is very responsive even though my Laptop is a dog. I had Edit running same time and everything was playing nicely together just as it should!

I agree that rig and playing style make a huge difference but I have found many tones from Custom Tone that were a good starting point and sound far better than the presets from the factory. I happen to like and use clean tones - and tones geared toward the JTV acoustic models. I have found several good ones.

Complain Of The Line 6 Support Center!
Charlie_Watt replied to Andrioman's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Many of us like the newer FW. I also like the features that came with it - WB HD. If you don't like the changes then stick with what you did like. There is absolutely no problem with sticking with older FW. You can change forward and back whenever you like. Line 6 tries to make everyone happy but that's not reality when it comes to personal likes / dislikes of the changes to the models. -
The newer trem doesn't need that clip.

It is really unfortunate that Line6 did not do a better job with the factory presets. Most are not at all useful. I recommend pulling some of the Custom Tone ones to start with until you get comfortable making your own. That's how I started and I found a few that I like. I now feel that I understand the methods of making my own tones.

What a nice surprise! I could not wait to see what kind of issues others had. I downloaded new workbench and new flash memory files and both upgrades went perfectly. It is so nice to be able to use WB and Edit at the same time while connected to my HD500x. The models sound fine and I do not notice any problem with string volumes - but I didn't with 2.0 either. I'm a happy camper. Thanks Line6!

It's not an issue - just an unfortunate fact of life.
