  1. Most likely reason for this problem is a ground loop that was causing the USB interface to make errors. I don't think the HD500 cares that cables are connected but if they are connected to another grounded device, you can have a ground loop that affects the USB.
  2. I always copy the FW and SW files to my PC before I update. I know it works if you don't but I like to simplify the process. I have never experienced even a slight glitch in the Line6 updates over the years I have had pods and variax guitars.
  3. You can move the models to any switch position but the mags are fixed.
  4. :PThey must have been taking lessons from Apple.
  5. Yes - and it depends. You can hook the XLR output to a soundboard. You can connect the 1/4 output to power amp. What output mode works best is up to you. I would suggest Studio Direct as the most likely choice.
  6. Actives may be a bit tricky. They should work but turning them on could be a problem. (and you need a 9V battery someplace) Normally, you use a switch on the 1/4 inch jack to turn the power on. You might be able to run them on the JTV's power. It's not quite 9V but it might work. That would require some careful mods to connect switched power for the pickups.
  7. These batteries hold a charge quite a while. You should probably recharge them every couple of months or so. Life should be fine as long as you don't leave them in a hot environment. I keep mine in my JTV because I sometimes play it through one of my tube amps with the 1/4 inch cable. Most of the time I use the VDI cable with my pod. I end up recharging about once a month or so depending on how much I play it with the battery power.
  8. Standard Strats are wired to put the pickups in parallel when in positions 2 and 4.
  9. With the Pod connected to your PC you can run Edit and Workbench at the same time which is a very nice thing! Much easier than messing with the knobs and looking at the display on the Pod. My ancient eyes are not capable of dealing with that display when the unit is on the floor and I am upright.
  10. I believe that Line6 uses the Analog Devices DSP - not Arm.
  11. That does not look like the cable for the 500. I believe that the cable for the 500 goes under the whole bridge assembly and that the piezos solder directly to the flex circuit. That is the way mine is - and I know because I recently installed Ghost pickups. I removed the bridge and cable to do that.
  12. I learned here something that I never knew - that we could always do FW updates with a Pod HD500 or HD500x. I never realized that only WB did not work until the latest update. I used the dongle to do my update to 2.1 and it worked fine - but I have never had any Line6 FW update go bad on my PC setups. I am FW update paranoid though and I always first download the files to my pc and I always make sure nothing else is running and that I have no ground loops. I use a dummy 1/4 inch plug to power up my JTV rather than a cable connected to anything that could be grounded. USB can be fussy about grounding.
  13. I think that the string volume issue is one of variability of the Piezo pickups. I have worked with these things in other applications and the output is quite variable. In the application I have used them in we had to carefully calibrate every one. That means we should be adjusting the global string volumes to get them balanced. No big deal. It's easy to change them in WB.
  14. Make sure that one or more speakers isn't cutting out. Sounds like a defective unit.
  15. Sounds like it's bricked. You will have to send it to Line6 to get reloaded.
  16. Go for it. Good luck. I give you a .0001% chance of success.
  17. The AUX input is designed for a MP3 player which is line level. Sounds like your electronic drums are putting out instrument level designed to go into the front of an amp. You will need a preamp to get it up to line level if you want to use the Aux input.
  18. I think you are stuck with one app at a time open with an Ipad device.
  19. You are the one that said the old FW doesn't do it. I assumed you meant that it doesn't have ghost notes with the old FW. If that is not the case then a FW fix isn't what you need. You need a HW fix.
  20. Absolutely no excuse for this! That would be the first thing I would check if my 500 stopped working. One possibility is that they damaged that when they tried to replace your board. What repair center did you use? They obviously are not capable of doing this kind of work.
  21. You can also invest in a Static Mat.
  22. If the old FW does it and it was fine before it's not a FW problem! Line6 isn't going to ever release new FW for a 700. You can send it to them for repair since something has gone wrong with it.
  23. :)Asking what are the best strings is like asking what is the best beer.
  24. No model packs for HD! The old ones would not work anyway.
