  1. On the crashing - what PC are you using and what OS? I am running XP on my Dell Laptop and the EDIT software rarely crashes. I have had it lose communication with the HD500x once or twice and had to restart it but it is normally solid and I run it all the time when I am using my Pod in my music room.
  2. With headphones you want studio direct output. Into the front of the amp you want one of the other outputs based on what sounds good to you. I always use the XLR outs to my PA speaker. Works great. I use both XLR outs and go into two inputs on my PA speaker since the L and R are Stereo.
  3. These are two very different products! Why would you compare them? One is an amp with modeling built in and the other is just a modeler without any sort of amp.
  4. Changing string gauge is not different than on any Trem equipped guitar (69S). You have to account for the tension difference which means neck relief will change, trem spring tension will change, intonation will change.
  5. I specifically asked for the update right after it came out last August. They did the update and checked out the guitar afterwards. It came with 2.0 as I had requested. I am sure that any new guitars in stock anywhere will not have 2.0 on them unless the dealer upgrades them.
  6. I found some "Variax Acoustic" patches that sound very good on Custom Tone. They tend to use some EQ and no amp model to get the full range sound. It sounds great through a full range speaker or headphones. Sounds like Crap through my 5E3 amp.
  7. You can also use the power supply and TRS cable that they sold for the older Variax but it's a bit on the expensive side. If I did not have an HD500x and VDI cable, I would just use the battery. I did that for the first 6 months I owned my JTV and I always used batteries in my original Variax 500. One advantage to batteries is NO Ground Loops. Batteries are the cleanest power you can get. If I was running on batteries and playing out I would have a spare. ($50)
  8. I bought a "Demo" JTV69S from Sweetwater and it was a very good experience. I was nervous but it worked out fine. You have the option with them to return it if you don't like it. I have purchased some of my guitars from a high end dealer where I could try out several and pick the one I liked. Hard to do mail order. :-) I have also bought several used guitars on Ebay with decent success. There are certainly more potential issues with the JTV guitars - they are much more complicated than a normal electric. My advice is to be fussy and if you see a problem send it back and ask Sweetwater to select one that doesn't have that problem to replace it. Once you get a good one you will love it!
  9. I agree with Clay-man on this. Amplifi may not be for the pros and it may not be high end gear but there is a large consumer base out there that will love it. They will sell way more of those than the JTV guitars.
  10. There is something wrong. The models in 2.0 should not sound weak. If 1.9 sounds good, I would stick with it though.
  11. They should make it right. I bought a "Demo" JTV 69S from Sweetwater and it was perfect when I received it. I asked them to put 2.0 on it and they did that for me. Everything was packaged properly and I was very pleased with their service. My next purchase will be from them based on my experience.
  12. I am running 2.0 on my JTV and the model levels are not lower than the mag levels on any models. The Lester models are the loudest. It sounds like you don't have things right somehow. Try reflashing with 2.0 or even try going to 1.9. I have not bothered to level my models yet - they are not all the same levels but neither are the guitars they modeled.
  13. Not sure that the board for the 700 will go in any of the other old models.
  14. RJ-45 Splitter????? An Ethernet switch won't work and you should not try it.
  15. I have not had any problems with the stock saddles on my 69S. I don't know if they have changed the bridge since they first introduced the JTV's - mine is fairly new.
  16. At least with Line Level it's a little less sensitive to ground loop noise.
  17. XLR is Balanced - much better for ground loop reduction especially if the device is not plugged into the same power strip. Use XLR if your amp / PA supports it.
  18. This problem has been there and was well documented from day one of Workbench HD. No excuse for not having a fixed version of WB by now but there is that simple work around for it. The much bigger issue is no Pod support.
  19. Alt tuning is a compromise at best. The string and it's overtones are at the standard tuning but the feedback from your amp is at the alt tuning. It works pretty well but not perfectly and it is very susceptible to resonance and crosstalk problems.
  20. Sound speed = 1msec/foot. Light speed 1 nsec/foot. Longer cable - move a few microinches closer to the speaker. :-)
  21. Time Delay????? Yes - one nanosecond per foot. Not an issue. The issue is whether the drivers can drive a longer cable or not. You can use wireless with a JTV but only with the conventional guitar cable - and then you need the JTV to run on batteries AND you can't control it with the Pod.
  22. There is no way you can keep the delay in sync with recorded music. Ain't going to happen.
