  1. No it does not have a VDI connection. You can use the JTV but only with the 1/4 inch plug like any guitar. And you need batteries or the external power supply for the JTV.
  2. I'm not sure I would dump my HD500 to buy the HD500x but the HD500x is definitely an upgrade. I really like mine - but I was upgrading from the X3live.
  3. The pins are inside the plug on the guitar. They can get bent and not make good contact with the plug.
  4. Other option is a good powered PA speaker. That is the route I went because I wanted full range acoustic sounds. There are many to choose from. I went with an EV ZLX-12P. It sounds great and its plenty loud. The Line6 PA speakers are good too - more expensive though.
  5. See if any of the pins look bent or damaged. You may be able to straighten a bent pin. Common cause of damage on these is accidentally trying to plug the 1/4 inch plug into that jack. It happened a lot on the old Variax's. Everyone loses the rubber plug that comes with it to cover the jack. The JTV has a hinged cover - much safer.
  6. Only thing that interests me about iLoud is that it is battery powered. Amplifi is not portable but it has it's own modeling built in. iLoud relies on modeling from your idevice. It might be a nice portable Bluetooth music box though.
  7. It's also very easy in WB to set up capo or other alternate tunings.
  8. I have seen several good pros playing Variax guitars.
  9. The cable that came with my WB does not have a shell on the other end - only on the Variax end. Still I think folks should be smart enough to RTFM and not plug the wrong things into a Pod.
  10. First thing I did when I got my JTV 69S is to throw out the wrenches that came with it. I have a real good set of both Metric and SAE alan wrenches that I use.
  11. The new WB is a Free program that Line6 released for use by anyone that already owned or is buying a JTV (and is willing to upgrade to 2.0). There was an old WB so they did not have to release a new one. AND the old one works with pods.
  12. I use Elixirs on my Taylor Acoustic and on most of my Electrics. They may not start out as bright as some others but they don't degrade as quickly either. I thought my Variax 500 was a bit too bright with other strings and I got a lot of string noise when moving my hands. The Elixirs are a bit warmer and the coating feels nice too. I have not tried the Cleartone strings.
  13. I have used elixir's on my 500 since I got it. They reduce the string noise you get sliding your fingers up the fretboard and the strings last longer. I am lazy when it comes to changing strings so that's a good thing.
  14. Very nice playing! I liked it a lot!
  15. Everybody is forgetting here that Line6 never had to introduce WB HD or 2.0 JTV FW. They gave that to us free. If they put their resources on other projects I can understand that. People talk here like they owe it to us to fix these Free programs for us. I agree that it would be nice if they did but I don't think they owe us anything!
  16. The regular prices are all very similar. The others are discounted prices. Cost of various pickups is not very different. Real issue is 59 and 69 are very different guitars. You may like one and not the other depending on your personal preferences. I like both but I purchased the 69S.
  17. It's enough of a pain in the A$$ that I won't use it. My setup is JTV into HD500x with VDI and HD500x into my Laptop via USB. No workbench. I will wait until 2.0 and workbench work with the Pod. (If I happen to live that long!)
  18. They only removed it if you want WorkbenchHD which is completely New. You sunk $1500 before you had any idea they would come out with an improved WB. 2.0 and new WB are a bonus to anyone that previously had a JTV. Yes they lack a feature that we all want but they are still a Free bonus.
  19. I am afraid to reflash mine. It came with 2.0 and everything seems to work properly so I won't mess with it until I have a real good reason to. (like new FW that has a feature I want) I have not experienced any of the problems reported here with 2.0. No issues with string volumes.
  20. Line6 should fix this flaky reflash. There is absolutely no reason why reflash should partially work. I have never seen anything like that with the things I have worked on that have firmware upgrade capability. The first thing we always did was develop a way to verify the image before reprogramming the flash with it.
  21. I just right clicked on the files and did Save AS in my IE browser. Worked fine.
  22. They can go through the digital circuits because you can get them through the VDI cable to the Pod. They also can be completely passive and go to the 1/4 inch jack. I know this because you can do it with no power going to the JTV. The passives work with the battery removed.
  23. How long they last is a function of the Customer Demand for them.
