  1. I agree that every setup is different. I run my Pod through my Tube amp too but the Acoustic models in the JTV sound much better through my PA speaker. I think with a little work, you can get good tone through any decent amp or PA.
  2. If you think about it, it makes the most sense to play an Amp modeler through a full range flat response PA. When you play it through an amp, it colors the tone. Not to say you can't get good tone through an amp though.
  3. You will hear nothing on your computer through workbench. You can have your guitar plugged into an amp and then you will hear the changes. WB is fine now that they released the latest version that fixed the bug in the Strat pickups. And it works with the Pod as an interface now too. I never used it until those things were fixed but I use it now with no problems at all.
  4. Standard Variax piezos are gounded through the bridge / strings and only have one wire on them. Cleaning may restore the function. It's not hard to replace one and they are available and not too expensive. The model pot is a much bigger deal. You need exactlyl the right one for it to work right and it really should be calibrated. You can tweak it to get the model switch points to match the detents but it's tricky. You may be able to get a replacement from Line6 or one of the service centers. They can be damaged so I am sure that it's a common repair that is done.
  5. Good find. That might explain why some have this problem and others don't. Mine behaves the way yours does after you made this change. String volumes sound very much the way I would expect on the Strat models. I compared them to my Strat with same 10 gauge strings on it. Very similar.
  6. Sounds like your guitar needs some work! Bad Piezo on D String. Bad Model Selector Pot - probably has been damaged if it wobbles.
  7. The picture above is the old back of the bridge setup. The new one is much different and is not as likely to rub the cables against the cavity when the bridge is moved.
  8. Model selector knob will be a problem. There is a detent that keeps it in a position for each model. That control is actually a pot. The position of the pot is read by an A/D converter to tell the computer what model is selected. You could always paint over it. You will have to remove one of the knobs to determine if your desired replacement will fit. They are fairly standard pots.
  9. Only advantage of having them do it was that if anything went wrong they had the guitar not me. Some folks were having problems with the updates. I have updated mine since I got it with no problems. I like the 2.1 models and the Workbench HD / HD500x is a great combo.
  10. I don't use Workbench that often so I don't find this to be a big problem. My HD500x works just fine with my Variax 500 and my JTV 69S through the VDI cable. It supports the model switching and other stuff. Line6 is not going to update the old Workbench.
  11. Tonewise they sound the same to me. Out of tune on a D chord is not uncommon and usually results from the action at the nut being set too high. That causes you to stretch the strings more when you fret near the neck making the notes sharp. I use Earvana nuts for this reason. They compensate those notes a bit and make it play more in tune near the nut.
  12. I received my guitar from Sweetwater in less than a week. They gave me personalized service. I asked them to upgrade the FW and make sure everything was working and they did that. I bought a Hard Case because I travel with my guitar. It came with the Gig bag which is fine if you don't travel with it. You get a very good return policy with Sweetwater - not a bad idea when you are purchasing a guitar sight unseen.
  13. The dual paths are cool but they do use lots of DSP horsepower. The extra 20% really helps. I like the improved footswitches too.
  14. The CD/MP3 input isn't affected by the models or effects.
  15. The tone sounds very similar to me. They are very different guitars though. Scale length, bridge, etc are very different. That probably explains the different sounds.
  16. The 69S has a floating trem much like a strat. Changing string gauge requires that you change the spring tension on the Trem to get it level with the guitar body. Intonation and neck relief will also change if you change string gauge. I use 10's on my electrics so I have not had to fool with the trem setup. My 69S came from Sweetwater set up much to my liking. I had to tweak it a bit but I am comfortable doing that myself.
  17. I am surprised that a guitar like the Acoustic 700 isn't in enough demand for Line6 to make one. I really like my 700.
  18. The answer is set it to your liking. Playing style and neck setup have big influence on how low you can set the action. My 69S was pretty good out of the box. I lowered it just a bit at the bridge on the low E and A.
  19. Even though the JTV has acoustic models it's not an Acoustic Guitar and it can't really be played like one. It plays like an electric especially if you have the standard 10's on it. I think the acoustic models sound great but you have to mod your playing style somewhat. You can't play to aggressively. The action is too low for that if it's set up properly.
  20. You can turn off your Amp's Reverb and use one of the reverb models in the pod. Then you can turn that on and off. The Pod reverb models are very good.
  21. I think that the power supply that came with the pod is universal input. Read the label on it but I think all you need to do is adapt the plug to your standard and you should be good to go.
