  1. You are correct. The 12th fret has to be midpoint between the nut and the bridge no matter how many frets you have on the neck.
  2. Mine came with the battery in a box - not installed in the guitar.

I would hope they come up with PC support. I will spring for one when they do.
  4. The science is nice to know but how it sounds is all that matters in the end. Humbuckers tend to be "darker" because their inductance and resistance is higher then most single coils. We are not talking "Impedance Matching" like with speakers. There is no right or wrong setting here.
  5. It actually is a bit complicated because it involves your guitar pickups, your guitar cable, and the Pod Input. This is a real effect that you have using a normal amp as well but the Pod allows you to adjust it's input impedance which will affect how your pickups and cable interact to affect your tone. Some pickups have more turns on them with thinner wire which increases their inductance and resistance. This moves the resonant frequency lower. Longer guitar cables suck out the tone because they have higher capacitance. This can vary from cable to cable and is a per foot number. Setting the pod to a high impedance will minimize this effect.
  6. Any guitar is going to interact between strings when tuning. The neck bends as you change the string tension even if you don't have a trem. If you have a trem, the whole trem block moves when you adjust one string. You have to go through the strings tuning them until they are all in tune. Doesn't matter what order if you are using a tuner.
  7. You are not setting a frequency. You are setting an Input Impedance. (Or a modeled one)
  8. It's worse than that. All notes period will be out of pitch - except open. You need to match the scale length of the neck with the rest of the guitar.
  9. With a real amp, normal guitar, and cable, you have an input filter that is mostly made up of the cable capacitance, the resistance and inductance of the mag pickups, and the input impedance of the amp. This "filter" shapes your guitar's tone. Longer cable lowers the resonant frequency of this LRC filter. This can be very noticeable.
  10. I don't know anything about L6 Link but I know for sure that VDI is not Ethernet. The cable might be the same but the interface isn't even close.
  11. When you "lower the noise" you may also be low pass filtering your guitar signal. The Impedance change affects how much roll off there is of high frequencies.
  12. If your amp has a headphone jack, you can either use that or use the headphone output from the Pod. Your choice.
  13. I like the flexible use of DSP that Line6 designed into the PodHD's. Just because you can run out doesn't mean it's underpowered!
  14. That knob is not a pot. It is an Encoder. You could replace if you can get the right part and have the skills to unsolder it from the board and solder in the new one. If you don't have the skills, you should have Line6 do it.
  15. The X3 adapter is AC not DC. The new HD500, HD500x use a DC supply. They are not interchangeable. Adapters that are AC are rare.
  16. Some like rosewood, some like maple. That's why they are both available.
  17. Your guitar has a problem or two. Your model knob is a common problem. You can remove it and put a shim in the hole so it doesn't go on quite as far and it should then work properly when you push it. The other problem sounds like either a bad piezo or bad setup. I would try reducing the string volumes one at a time in WB and make sure that your piezos are assigned correctly to the right strings and try at reduced volume to see of your modulation goes away. If it's fine without the alternate tuning, the piezos are probably ok. I read here of at least one case where the piezos were wired wrong. In normal tuning, that sort of works but in alt tuning it won't. The other cause of these problems can be any crosstalk between strings at the piezos. Alt tuning depends on picking up only the single string with each piezo. I would consider either returning it or sending it to Line6 for repair.
  18. The way Line6 works, you will wake up one day and it will be there - no advanced warnings.
  19. If you have an iOS device, there are tons of good tuners out there. I use the Peterson app and it is the most accurate app that I have tried.
  20. It sounds like your adapter is not good. If the 1/4 inch cables work, it's not a Pod problem but an adapter problem. I bought an extension cable with 1/4 inch plug on one end and 1/8 jack on the other to use with my Headphones since I needed a longer cable anyway.
  21. Warmoth necks for Fender Strats should fit. You can order them without the holes drilled or drill new holes in your body. The only difference is the hole locations for mounting the neck to the body. I do not have any bridge info though. I have a 500 which is a hardtail which is the way I like it. Stays in tune and there is no trem to fuss with.
  22. Ditto. They have been around for a long time. I got my first nuts from them at least 8 years ago. Same deal. Probably a very low budget operation but their product is good and I am very satisfied with it. They take a while to answer email questions but they do get back to you.
  23. I could not agree more! It would be very easy and very useful to have a Clip indicator! Running as many effects in series is just asking for an overload somewhere unless they designed in a ton of headroom. (which trades off resolution in digital calculations) Clipping sounds terrible and ruins your tone.
