You can have two paths (Left and Right) and pan them so that one tone goes left and the other goes right. Then send left to PA, right to Amp. BUT the output mode may not be right for both. Most use Studio Direct for PA and one of the Amp Front modes for going to an Amp. Unfortunately you can't have both of those.

No. Your cheap amp should work with any tones. Check the Input settings for the tones. They are probably not right for whatever you have as an input.

Pod switches don't work that way.

There was a video posted somewhere in this forum that shows how to take the unit apart and replace the USB chip. That will get you inside. The power jack is a much easier thing to change once you open it up. Just be careful not to damage the board traces when you unsolder and remove the old one. I would use some "Solder Wick" to remove the old solder from the broken jack.

Thanks for the tip! Saving Screenshots is a useful thing that I never knew you could do with an Ipad / Iphone.

Variax 600 and Locking Tuners

I think the answer is yes. -
Just curious - how did you make that screenshot from your Ipad?

Acoustic Models. . .
Charlie_Watt replied to tomtheguitarguy's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Yes - you need a real light touch! -
You first have to figure out how to take the case apart. The power connector is directly soldered to the main board based on pix I have seen. There are some posts here showing the thing apart. Look for them. You can do more harm than good if you don't know which end of a soldering iron is hot. You will have to unsolder the damaged power connector and solder in the new one. Judge your skills before you tackle this.

I disagree. I think they upgraded to the 500x. The 500 is a fine unit - the 500x is slightly more capable and has much better switches. I call it progress! DSP horsepower increases with time. It may be as simple as supporting a higher processor clock speed.

I have found that sometimes I like the 12 string models and sometimes I think they sound strange. IMO they are not quite right. Never have been.

Thinking of buying need advice
Charlie_Watt replied to PrimitiveLyric's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
If you are familiar with the 600 the JTV won't have any surprises. It's a better guitar with more features and the new WB HD is a big improvement. -
You want to adjust the spring tension until the trem plate is level with the guitar body when the strings are in tune. There is a balance between spring tension and string tension with this style of trem. Lighter gauge strings require less tension so you will have to loosen the screws that hold the springs to reduce the spring tension. It's an easy adjustment to make. You have to take the plate off the back to access the springs.

Installing an Earvana nut on a JTV69
Charlie_Watt replied to ajktsb's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Warrantee isn't going to cover installing an Earvana nub anyway. You have to find a good guitar tech if you are not comfortable doing it yourself. -
I suggest that search customtone for variax acoustic and acoustic tones. I found some very good ones there. I found them in the HD500 not HD500x section.

Best setup for acoustic is no amp model. You did not say what you are playing into though.

Pickup Height
Charlie_Watt replied to geirmilton's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Your pickups don't sound too close. They have nothing to do with the modeling but they can affect the string vibrations if they are too close just on any normal guitar. It sounds like you are happy with the setup now. My 69S came set up pretty well. I tweaked the action a bit and adjusted the intonation. It was off on the low E and A. Easy adjustments - that I have had to make on any guitars I have purchased new. -
How to monitor POD HD500X output signal level?
Charlie_Watt replied to TylerSocholotuik's topic in POD HD
Clip indicator is important - more so than an output level meter.- 11 replies

Pickup Height
Charlie_Watt replied to geirmilton's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Unless they are way too close to the strings, they are not affecting your modeled sounds. To get the most from the acoustic models, you need a full range sound system. They do not sound very good through a guitar amp. Adjust the pickups away from the strings if you think they may be too close to them. -
You will need a hefty power pack to deliver 9V at almost 3 amps for any reasonable time period.
