It figures, I just bought it 3 days ago.

First computer generation ? I started with a TRS-80, 4k of memory, and had to solder a chip in it to have lower case. You loaded programs on it from a cassette player.

I read an article about digital recording which said some similar things. In the analogue days the very low and very high frequencies didn't come out very loud. But in the digital world all frequencies come out strong and a low and high shelf EQ is needed to tame this down and get rid of the low boominess and high harshness.

Thanks Glenn. Your videos are the main reason I bought the PODHD. You always get great tones and show them off well.

The real question is "Is anyone posting from their phone ?" cause that's what the younger crowd uses.

55 and doing gigs since I was 17 and had a fake I.D. but back then you could drink beer at 18.

Can you guys just shut up already ?

Anyone run their HD500X into the effects return of a guitar amp?
joel_brown replied to Rocco_Crocco's topic in POD HD
PODHD Desktop into a pair of Marshall JCM900's FX return so I can split them on both sides of the stage for a stereo effect. I use a 20ms delay between L&R channels. Studio Direct Output and PODHD Pre not Full amp. -
It's a great point. If this had come out 2 years ago it would be different. $100 bucks this late in the product cycle is too much.

Being both a guitar player and drummer (I play in two bands), I think what he's trying to tell you is he can't hear you. If you think drums are loud when you're playing the guitar, then he can't hear you. Drums are about 5 times louder sounding to the drummer...and the guitar is about half the volume (or less) for the drummer than what you hear.
-
Sometimes a distorted sound really doesn't have as much distortion as you might think. Something I recommend is reducing distortion and adding a little compression. Distortion usually adds compression and sometimes we get used to that feel but end up with too much distortion. I hope this makes sense... It's late and I'm tired.
-
For me it was huge, setting it to Guitar/Aux. At lower volumes it didn't make much difference but at live volumes it was hard to control the feedback and squeal. Then I could do more with compressors to get the feel that I was looking for.

I would work on tone first. Fixing it later with EQ is not something I recommend. Been there and done that too many times and never been satisfied. Your basic tone is good it just needs something to smooth it out a little. Are you using some type of distortion FX in the chain before the amp ? That's what it sounds like to me and the distortion FX just isn't quite right.

I'm nice to people until they do something childish or stupid. Such as coming on here after a handful of posts for a month and announcing to the world in what I consider a childish manner "I'm leaving". There's a lot of nice people on here that have helped me and a lot of others figure out how to get the most of their PODHD. Tons of info and great advice. But don't come on here and show your lollipop and act like a child. Then you get posts like this...

From what I could tell the OP only started posting in early April 2015 and after a month gave up on the PODHD. Well I almost gave up after a month too. But after hearing recordings of what the PODHD could do and reading a lot of great info on here, I was able to get it to do what I wanted and I'm damn glad I did. I can certainly afford an AXE FX but a little patience and reading saved me a lot of money. Also, I've been on the Fractal forums. They have there set of issues and problems too. Wait till you try one of their HiRes Models and run out of DSP. But my earlier post was poking fun at the OP. It's like having a neighbor you never met come over one day and announce he's moving to a better neighborhood. My response would be "Ok, why are you bothering me ?". Good luck... I guess after 9 posts, including the one where he says he's done, he couldn't figure out how to use the PODHD. Wait till he finds out all the stuff he needs to learn for the AXE just to get it to sound a little better. Hey where's the guy who always posts "The tone is in the fingers"... hehe
-
I suspect the biggest users of the PODs are the bulk of musicians that want something that sounds nice without spending a lollipop load of money. Hmmm, $500 for a PODHD and it sounds really good. Not quite, but almost, as good as an AXE or Kemper that goes for $2000 to $3000 without a floor board. I'm no Rocket Surgeon or Brain Scientist, but it seems obvious to me.

I did the theme song for America's Most Wanted back in the late 90s on a modeler that was heard by nearly 2 billion people world wide. I did studio work for about 7 years for that show. Never used a real amp. Yeah I'm not famous and nobody's ever heard of me but you're not going to find a lot of big time pros endorsing the PODHD either. Take what you can get... Now that I'm playing live again, I use real amps but with the PODHD.

What is with the new Fonts on the Forum?
joel_brown replied to Charlie_Watt's topic in Line 6 Lounge
Not fixed for me. I tried refreshing a few times, that didn't work either. -
I do agree about practicing with and without an amp. Also lots of practice is very important. And there is a lot of merit in "The tone is in the fingers". But, you knew there was a "But" coming, pro players use really nice sounding equipment. Combine really good equipment with a really good player and it sounds great. Lose either one of these things and it doesn't sound great. It will still sound good compared to someone who can't play very well but not good enough. So, are there any more dead horses here that we can beat some more ?
-
The best player through a crap amp still sounds like crap. Doesn't play like crap, but sounds like crap. The Magic is in the fingers but the Trick is the tone.
-
I do it old school. I put an SM57 mic in front of my amp and record it. Sounds just like it does when I play live. I'm like you, I use the PODHD into a Marshall half stack. Nothing like the roar of tubes into a 4x12 cabinet.

Attention Line 6 some honest feedback from a new user..pros and cons
joel_brown replied to awesomejohn7's topic in POD HD
Since you're new to the PODHD here's a couple gotcha's or quirks that it has: 1) Set Input 1 to Guitar and Input 2 to something else - don't set it to Same. Otherwise it doubles the input volume and sounds like crap. 2) Input Impedance - don't just use Auto. Try lower settings to darken or reduce the brightness of the tone. Some of use 32k or some other number than Auto. I'm sure a few others can chime in with a few other things but these two helped me a bunch when I first started.- 45 replies

A lot of people here have said the same things, over and over. But it's always good for Line6 to hear them, again and again, until they get it right.- 45 replies

I think what he's trying to say is things like type of recording mics used, EQ, compression, and other effects may have substantially changed the tone of the guitar from what came out of the amp when it was played.
