I understand some of the frustrations people have with the PODHD. I damn near beat it to death with a hammer when I first got it, I was so frustrated. More than once I considered selling it and giving up. But then a bunch of really good people on this forum helped me figure out what I needed. I think that's key for Line6 to understand and help them make the product easier to deal with and maybe what could have inspired the Firehawk.

Hmmm, what you call crunch and what I call crunch is two different things. To me that's a slightly overdriven clean guitar tone. Crunch to me is Megadeth, Sabbath, Skid Row, etc... But it is a nice guitar tone.

Sorry Tboneous, I removed my post. I didn't read your question close enough.

I have actually seen a PODHD Desktop that took a 9v AC power supply, not a DC power supply. I did about 11 double takes when I saw that. It wasn't modified from the factory either. So be careful when ordering a power supply and triple check what you're buying and what you need.

I do agree with RipperShred. If Line6 wants to charge for a model pack, it should contain all HD models with Pre versions. But on the flip side, they don't owe us anything for free. We bought the PODHD with what it had. Any expectation of getting more for free later is wishful thinking.

I don't believe in tonal differences in wood on an electric guitar either. My experience has been the electronics, especially tone pot capacitors are slightly different. I've matched up electronics in completely different guitars and they sound the same. But you have to match up ALL the electronics, not just pickups.

They're on eBay all the time or order another from Line6. I recommend an official Line6 power supply. Be VERY careful that you get the correct power supply for YOUR unit. I have seen on rare occasions that some are AC and some are DC voltages.

On the EQ just increase the percentage knob to include more maple and cut rosewood by a few DB. Seriously just create the tone normally and you'll be fine.

Typically Delay goes after the Amp/Cab. Otherwise it can sound warbly. Unless that's the sound you want.

You don't need to use Dual Amps in the POD to hard pan left and right. A single amp is stereo. Just place a Digital Delay on one of the Single Amp's outputs and set the delay to 20ms. Hard Pan the mixer L and R of course. Detune and Chorus also works but can sometimes have an unwanted phasing effect. None of it sounds quite as good as playing it twice. This is because you need the randomness of every note being slightly off-time and off-pitch. I believe the AXE has this random feature to it's double tracking. But for a couple grand more, I'd just play it twice. Now for live performances the 20ms Delay sounds great. Here's my tone with stereo capabilities. http://www.ChildrenOfTheGraveBand.com/BlackSabbath.hbe You may need to rename it to what your HD500 expects.

+100 Great idea Dean. I bet nobody will take you up on it though. They don't have the time. If they did they would have got the tone they needed out of the PODHD.

If she's half naked while pressing the space bar, I'm good with that.

People make scratching sounds on a record player and call themselves musicians. How much worse can it get ?
-
It usually takes a lot of years to be able to play an instrument well. Too many people give up and a lot of them just want to be able to doodle around with it. Why not build something for them ? It may allow some people to learn and take that next step to being a real musician.

Man, I've had enough of my 2000 Daewoo Nubira station wagon, I'm getting a Viper... It's cheaper in the long run because I can get there faster. And the Daewoo uses percentage for tuning the radio and makes a fizzy sound when driving down the highway. Now how many people have even heard of a Daewoo car ? And yes I really do own one. Probably the only one left in existence that still runs. How's that for getting off-topic ?

Buy a Mac or buy Windows. It's not that expensive and everyone writes software for it.

I do want to point out that we are supposed to finally get a real EQ at the end of this month that doesn't have phantom parameters. And for a while I used an external 31band Stereo EQ that I picked up used for $100 until I tweaked a few DEP parms and got it the way I liked it. As far as jockeying around on forums for amp models, I don't understand that at all. I connect with Line6 Monkey and run update. Not sure how the amp packs will be purchased yet but I think I can handle that versus paying an extra couple grand for a gizmo. I'm not doubting the Kemper sounds better. Is it worth 5 times more ? No way. Not when I get really good tones from the PODHD. I don't mind working for them but will admit it was very frustrating at first. But the double standard I use is Marshall amps and cabs. The PODHD is basically a digital pre-amp and effects into my Marshalls. I can also A/B tones with the real thing very easily. I use the PODHD because I hate cabling up a bunch of noisy pedals. The times I used the PODHD into a solid state amp and cab, I wasn't as impressed. I'm sure I needed to tweak my tones for that but I may have ended up buying the Kemper in that situation. Don't know...

It saved me time and therefor thousands of dollars. I can believe this if your livelihood is music and that pays your mortgage. Otherwise sorry, it just sounds too biased for me. And I do believe the $2500 gizmo is better than the $500 gizmo. But not cheaper cause it's easier. btw - I've spent hours and hours on every device I ever bought all the way back to the Roland GP-8. This is the same old story I've been hearing for 25 years.

Culpster, do you need a Snickers bar ?
-
So what was the consensus ? Will digital replace analogue ? I still see people riding horses, just a lot more driving cars. Haven't seen an 8track lately but record players have turned into a musical instrument ;-)
-
I kind'a think "Well duh, the $2500 gizmo is better that the $500 gizmo". Of course it is. The thing is, is it worth it ? But the same thing can be said for a $900 guitar and a $5,000 dollar guitar. And will anything be perfect ? Nirvana was a band not a place. But it's a fun thread...

But yet your tag line talks about wanting to use your phone or tablet to run your POD. So I guess you like technology but don't like to admit it ? hehe...

More like the very early days of T.V. when you had to get up to change the channel, adjust the rabbit ears to get a clear picture, then adjust the vertical hold, then tweak the volume, and of course bang the side of the T.V. a few times just for good measure. This was for EVERY TIME you changed the channel. Oh and it was black and white... "Back In The Day" kind'a sucked sometimes.

Back in day (yeah I'm over 50) it still took quite a few pedals. You still had to have chorus, compressor, boost, distortion, delay, reverb, and noise gate, plus switching between pre-amp A and B for clean and crunch. Pedals were still expensive, noisy, broke down, cables failed, and you couldn't just press one button and get the tone you wanted. It was a tap dance sometimes. I still have my Marshall amps but now I use the PODHD as a digital pre-amp and digital FX and press one button to change a bunch of things at once. And unlike pedals, the PODHD saves my settings. Every gig I used to check the pedals and make sure the knobs were in the right location.

I'm pretty sure the HD300 doesn't either. If I remember right, only the HD500 and Pro support MIDI.
