I didn't have the fuzz first. I actually have a volume pedal first in the chain, then wah, the Fuzz Face and then the Klon serving as an always-on clean boost for the amp. In real life, I find I hardly ever like any fuzz pedals without pairing them with an overdrive, so I think the was the Fuzz Face interacts with the Klon in the Helix is pretty spot on. It definitely seems to give it a bit more mid-punch. The guitar I'm using in this clip is an Eastman T486B, and it has Seymour Duncan Phat Cat pickups... Those are the P90s that are the same size as a standard humbucker. I've attached the .hlx file if you want to check it out (just delete the .zip extension). There's a lot of other stuff going on in this patch as well, as I started with a jack-of-all-trades patch I have and modified it. So there's eight snapshots each doing different things as well. I use two external pedals, so if you're not using any, you might need to change the EXP1/EXP2 assignments. Deluxe Fuzz.hlx.zip

I recorded this little piece last night using the Fuzz Face model along with the Deluxe Reverb Normal channel... I can't say I've ever used the Fuzz Face model all that much, but I just kind of stumbled on this tone. I was happy with the spitting, gnarly quality of this tone. https://soundcloud.com/phil-miller-20/fuzzy-monkey-extended

I think it's great for bass. I've recorded a number of songs where I've used the Helix for bass, and I've been happy with the results. I've also let one of my good friends who's a bass player play through it, and he loved it.

Well, assuming you have the "Snapshot Edits" parameter set to Recall under Global Settings > Preferences, once you set this up in a snapshot, it's remembered for each snapshot as you change through them. If you have that set to Discard, you have to hit the Save button twice to save any changes in the snapshot you're editing. So after you make the changes in the snapshot you're in and do the same thing for all your other snapshots, you can save the preset. As far as hitting the home button, that doesn't save anything, but it's a quick way to get out of any screen you're in and back to the signal flow view.

Throwing you off in what way? Any value between those ranges will trigger the various events. The chart is pretty straightforward...

A plain MIDI CC doesn't need to be assigned to a footswitch to be sent out as an Instant Command with a snapshot change. A MIDI CC Toggle, on the other hand, does. But that makes sense... I mean, a MIDI CC Toggle doesn't really make any sense apart from being assigned to a footswitch.

Strange Volume Drop when using Les Paul vol controls
phil_m replied to WickedFinger's topic in Helix
Perhaps you have a noise gate on in the input block with a high threshold? Although, this setting is a per preset thing, so if you're seeing the same thing across multiple presets, I'm not sure... -
In the Global Settings menu under the EXP Pedals heading, knobs 4,5 and 6 let you set the expression pedal behavior to be applied per snapshot, per preset or globally. It sounds like you have yours set to to "per preset" or "per snapshot" and have saved your preset with the volume pedal in the minimum position. Moving the pedal changes this and takes over the volume parameter again.

There are separate amp and cab blocks, but there are also amp+cab blocks in which the amp and cab occupy the same block. In this case, like I said, you'd have to use separate blocks for each. And, yes, what I wrote above would work with IRs as well.
-
Yes. There are a few ways to do it, but one way would be to put a send block before your cab block and connect that send to your amp. This means you'd have to use separate amp and cab blocks, of course, and it would mean that any effects you'd want sent to the amp would have to be before the send and cab block, so you wouldn't be able to use post-cab effects (which isn't necessarily a big deal). You could use effects after the cab still, but those would only be sent to the mixing desk. There are other, more elaborate, routing schemes you could do, but those would require doubling up on blocks and creating dual paths.

Well, I don't think this is so much a bug as it is a by-product of the way snapshots interact with controllers. If you have a parameter assigned to be controlled by a footswitch, its value is going to be controlled by snapshots as well. So, really, all controllers are tied to snapshots (with expression pedals, this can be overridden by choosing something other than "per snapshot" in the global settings menu). So I think perhaps what you're running into is that there's a specific value for decay recalled by each of your snapshots. You just need to go in and set where you want it for each one. You can still manually override that value by hitting the footswitch you have it assigned to. I believe it should got to max when you first hit the switch and then to the min if you hit it again. If you enter another snapshot, though, the decay will go to whatever value was saved with that snapshot. Basically, the way to think of it is that all controllers are snapshot controllers. It's just that some have the ability to have overrides.

Dude, you were the one who wrote this in an earlier comment- "If you believe this Tuner is working properly, sorry, means you never ever used a serious tuner before." Are you surprised that people get defensive when you basically tell them they've never used a real tuner? The tuner is what it is right now. If you don't like, that's fine. I suppose it's going to stay like this for awhile. Constantly complaining about isn't going to change it any faster.

Well, it sounds like your computer isn't recognizing the Helix at all... So I'm not sure. Perhaps try running the driver installer again, and after that try using different USB ports.
-
Does the Helix show up under the Device Manager in the Control Panel in Windows?
-
I'm confused as to why you would actually need to know their location. As long as you've installed them and have the Helix connected, they should load automatically as soon as you connect your Helix. Or are you saying that you don't see the Helix listed as an audio device in Cubase?
-
Not sure why you say this... Just asking what exactly came loose in your unit. Are you saying the port itself detached from the unit, or was something internal to the port? These micro-USB ports are on nearly every Android phone and tablet right now, so it's not like the port technology in and of itself is inherently dodgy. But if you're saying the port came loose from the housing, well, that's something a bit different.
-
Lol... I guess I haven't used a serious tuner before then... Honestly, I have no problem with the stability of the new tuner as far as it being too jumpy or anything like that. It has worked fine with everything I've thrown at it, including my acoustics and mandolin. So I'm really not sure why it's not working for some people.

I believe the Pete Anderson model is called "Black Panel Pete", iirc.

If you don't like how fuzzes sound in Helix please vote for my idea.
phil_m replied to Paolo_Maina's topic in Helix
The delays on the Helix are all new. The reverbs were ported over from the HD series, but they're not exactly copied. They were ported over from the HD series, yes, but they are a bit more detailed sounding, imo. -

Not trying to discourage anyone from giving ideas, but I think this thread kind of shows the problem with modeling fuzzes, though. Today, there are hundreds of varieties of fuzz pedals on the market, and for some reason, pedal builders keep on coming out with new ones (I think a big part of that is that fuzzes and ODs are some of the easier circuits to build and manipulate and alter). It just seems like Line 6 could spend a lot of time chasing its tail trying to model many of these. I personally think the FZ-2 model they included in the 2.0 update is a thing of beauty. Seriously - spend some time with it if you haven't. I like it better than many of the real fuzz pedals I've owned. -
I don't think there's anything inherently weak with the micro-USB input... I mean, there are literally millions of devices on the planet using that sort of connection for charging, and they are probably plugged in and unplugged way more than a typically guitar pedal would be. What is that failed on your units, exactly? The micro-USB port became loose?

I'm not really familiar with how the Voodoo Lab pedal switcher works, to be honest. I looked at the manual, and the don't have a MIDI implementation chart from what I can see. Does each loop have unique CC assigned to it with a range of values that turn it off and another range that turn it on? If that's the case, then, yes, you could have it set up so that Instant Commands turn off a certain loop when you enter a preset and turn other on. Like I said, you have up to six per preset to work with.
-
If you want to send out specific MIDI CC messages when you change patches, you have to set those up as Instant Commands in the Command Center. You can have up to 6 Instant Commands per preset. Each one is represented by the little lightning bolt icon in the Command Center view. You select the lightning bolt icon, and set it to the command you want. It's really not any different than setting up a footswitch. The key is that these commands are sent out when you load the preset, so you have to set them up in the preset you're going to. With the the 2.0 update and snapshots, you can actually have Instant Commands sent out on snapshot per snapshot basis. Depending on what you're doing, this may actually work better for you than doing it on a preset per preset basis.
