  1. I don't know, it seems people are will to spend that sort of money on laptops and other tech items knowing full well that within 6 months the hardware will be superseded by the next thing in six months to a year, sometimes less. Thankfully, the upgrade cycle on audio equipment like this seems to be much longer than with personal computers, but it does still exist. I mean, I know Line 6 is planning to support Helix for a good while, and I don't expect the hardware platform to change for quite a long time. I'm sure a lot of it depends on how well it continues to be received in the market. It's easier to support something if you still have customers buying it. Adding new features is also a way to attract new customers to an existing product. So, personally, I don't think it's worth losing sleep over, especially when the Helix itself has really only been available for six months at this point. And even saying it's been available is an understatement. The demand has been such that Line 6 can't make them fast enough. With that being the case there's certainly isn't any inventive to release some bigger and better right away.
  2. Helix is still brand new, practically speaking. If you're worried about this with Helix, I don't see how you could ever buy any tech-driven musical equipment.
  3. Have you tried multiple USB ports and/or cables? Are you sure you're using a USB 2.0 cable and not a 3.0?
  4. If you're using a PC, you also have to install the driver first. You mentioned you got a warning that the file was corrupt. Did that say something about a "certificate error" or something like that? You can override that and install the driver anyway, if that's the case.
  5. Helix isn't supported by Monkey. You need to use Line 6 Updater to update the firmware.
  6. The Dual Delay model is probably the cleanest digital delay with modulation. The Mod Chorus Echo model is also a modulated digital delay. Those aren't really models of specific delays, though. They're original creations.
  7. Having the Helix's output set to line would give you a better signal to noise ratio, so I'd start there. If you're using the XLR outs, just make sure the input you're plugging into doesn't have phantom power running to it. Unless you have a really nice preamp that you want to use that adds a little bit of magic to the signal, there's not really any benefit to not just using the Helix's preamp to boost the signal to line level before going into your interface.
  8. OK, that may be slightly hyperbolic... ;) It's pretty cool, though.
  9. If that's the case, this sounds like something particular to your unit, as I've not seen these sorts of issues anywhere else with 1.10. I would recommend opening a support ticket: http://line6.com/support/tickets/add.htmlor contacting the retailer you bought it from to see about the possibility of an exchange.
  10. The tone stack controls only effect the amp modeling, not the streamed audio. The block diagram for the Amplifi would be relatively simple. This photo isn't necessarily even that, but it used to be on the website here: The BT audio and the Aux In would be after all the modeling elements in the signal chain. It's really just acting like a power amp and speaker with those sources.
  11. Here you go... Oh, wait, you said a Wiki...
  12. If placed all the POD 2.0s ever sold end to end, they would circle around the world three times... :D Honestly, I doubt anyone other than Line 6 has a clue, and I can't imagine they're going to share that information. I remember a number of years ago, Line 6 announced that they had sold over a million Spider amps, and that was counting every different iteration in the line. I would be surprised if the sales of the 2.0 bean came anywhere near that.
  13. Did you install the new Helix app? You have to download and install it to get the editor to actually show up. In order to get it show up in the search function in Downloads tab here, you have you click the little box that says "beta" in the upper right hand corner of the screen before doing the search.
  14. Did you install the latest firmware? That would be the first thing I'd recommend you do.
  15. Yes, just install the latest one, and you'll be good to go.
  16. I don't necessarily think anyone is putting up a straw man. The question for Line 6 is if it's worth investing a lot of time and effort into reducing the patch change latency if, in the end, the improvement still isn't enough to make people happy. It seems that it simply won't be possible to get patch change times into the 20-30 ms range, so even if Line 6 is able to make relatively big improvements - like 50% faster switching times, would people appreciate it? As others have said, though, it's not that Line 6 is oblivious to the comments. Who knows what they have up there sleeves?
  17. They may not actually know the actual year of some of the effects, as some of them are notoriously hard to date. I think that some of the standard effects models that Line 6 has modeled over the years have actually changed, too. I know they've borrowed different pedals from different players over the years.
  18. The majority of Pete Thorn's sound comes from the fact that he's Pete Thorn. I've heard him demo all sorts of equipment over the years, and you know what? He sound like Pete Thorn regardless of what he's playing through. The thing about modelers is that most people want to dial them up to sound like a sound they're familiar with. So in some sense, the marketing tends to be a little off-target. I understand the appeal of saying you can re-create every classic guitar tone out there, but in reality, unless you're in a cover band, that isn't what you'll need. Even in a cover band, I think trying to nail all the tones perfectly is a bit overrated, but that's another discussion.
  19. Most of the amp models are described here: http://line6.com/data/6/0a06434c087052430f5d6523b/application/pdf/POD%20HD%20Series%20Model%20Gallery%20-%20English%20%28%20Rev%20E%20%29.pdf This was the model gallery for the HD series, and the Helix is using the same actual amps in many cases. The Helix models were re-done from the ground-up, though. Actually, if you go to the Line 6 Headquarters in Calabasas, CA, you can see the actual collection. It's pretty cool. The Twin is a vintage Blackface, for sure.
  20. He said he hadn't really made any yet for that setup... Not sure how that translates into not creating any he likes... Anyway, you asked for proof, I gave you proof. :) I think the thing is that most people don't see this as sort of some zero sum game. It's like when people ask me if I'm a Fender or Gibson guy - I'll say both. It's not like there's a law saying I can only have one guitar, one amp, one modeler. It's a weird obsession people have about always having to crown things as the best or having a winner.

  22. It's not true that all amps have seamless switching, fwiw. Many have audible gaps when switching channels. Sometimes this is by design because without a gap there would be an audible pop.
  23. On the release notes for the firmware, the correct procedure is listed. For the editor, it's still showing up as incorrect, though.
  24. OK, I was looking at the release notes for the firmware. They say 5 and 6, and that is the correct procedure.
  25. You shouldn't have to assign on/off functionality to a switch to change the label. You do have to have at least one controller assignment set before you add a custom label, though. You can't label a switch with no assignments. I've done this lots of times, and I've never had to have on/off functionality assigned to a switch to customize the label in the Command Center.
