Well, I can tell you for sure nothing replacing the Helix or LT is coming that soon...
-
I don’t think the Helix drivers will cause an issue. Altogether, I probably have drivers for 10 or so different audio interfaces (most of them Line 6 devices, but not all) installed on my Windows 10 machine, and I’ve never had an issue. It always seems that the drivers the end up causing problems are for things like wireless mice and keyboards.

No, there’s no MIDI commands associated with the Bank Up and Down functions. I guess the idea is if you’re using an external controller that’s sending MIDI PCs to recall presets, you can immediately access any preset you want. The banks are really just ways to organize the presets on the Helix Control.

You need the drivers to actually use HX Edit as well, so, no...

Most likely you'll be fine. The problem with the expression pedals on the LT affected a couple early batches, but it wasn't uniform across those batches. There were like 2 out of 12 metal stamping machines that were producing defective housings, and those were fed into the overall housing stockpile. So that's why they really don't have a way to track potentially defective units. I believe the first firmware that was shipped with the LTs was 2.20, anyway.

Do I always need to factory reset after a firmware update?
phil_m replied to wilssantos's topic in Helix
You don't need to do the factory reset, but doing the Restore from Backup is actually listed as part of the update instruction now. I think it's just to get the Global Settings back to what they were before updating, as mentioned above. I actually usually do a factory reset after updating and then do a Restore from Backup for everything, though. It doesn't take much more time, and I figure it's good to just clear the cobwebs out. -
Right now it's limited to one note per switch. If you have multiple switches with notes assigned, you could trigger them all together with snapshots to do chords. Also, remember, though, that there's the 3 Note Generator effect in the Helix that can be used to create chordal pads as well. The other thing I'd throw out there is that many keyboards/synths have chord or arpeggio modes in which one note can trigger a chord or multiple notes in sequence. That's what I was doing with the Korg Minilogue on this track. All of this was recorded in one take. I was playing guitar through the Helix and triggering the changes on the Minilogue with my feet.

There’s multiple chains of distribution involved, so the guy you’re talking to could still be correct. As far as updating, just follow the instructions here (wherever it says 2.90, just substitute 2.92).
-
Were you by chance outside?
-
These latest updates seem to change the Global Settings in some unpredictable ways, so I think that’s the main reason they added the Restore from Backup as a “required” step in the instructions.
-
Go straight to 2.92.

I think people normally think of heavier, layered rhythm guitars when they think of these doubler effects, but I've had surprisingly good luck with it on cleaner parts. All the rhythm parts on this song, for example, were made using the Double Take. I like how it still sounds like a single guitar part, it kind of pushes it out to the far left and right sides.

Where is this preset you're talking about?
-
That’s the original Spider 1x12, so you’d need the FB4 for that.
-
Dude, I’m agreeing with you... Why are you making this so difficult?
-
Attenuated = degraded, if it makes you happy.
-
The whole phantom power thing with the XLR outs is because of anti-pop circuitry, not because of the quality of the jacks. Phantom power won’t damage anything. The signal will just be attenuated.
-
Are you getting audio over the L6 Link connection? Have you tried a different cable?
-
The snapshot that’s active when you load a preset is always going to be whatever one was active when you saved the preset.
-
All I'll say is never fly anywhere with any of those friends, as they all seem pretty unlucky...
-
Yep... Under the Modulation section - called Double Take.

I've not had an issue seeing the scribble strips outdoors in the sun, with the exception that if you have sunglasses with polarized lenses, they'll become invisible. But, yeah, the main screen isn't really visible in direct sun. But as mentioned above, this is pretty par for the course, unless you use a different type of screen. Even with simpler pedals, the LEDs aren't visible at all in the direct sun. My Strymon TimeLine, for example, I can tell if the LEDs are on or off or read the little LCD screen in the direct sun. What are the issues with all of these? How is the joystick useless? Mine works fine after five years still... It sounds like you're simply listing stuff for which some people have had hardware failures and making it sound like a universal problem. You sell 70,000+ units of anything, some problems are going to show up.

The way to think about it is that every Helix/HX unit comes with a coupon good for one purchase of a Native license for $99. That coupon can only be used once. I think they considered other schemes, but ultimately, it would be too hard to manage. Line 6 had much more complicated licensing schemes with POD Farm back in the day, and that was constantly confusing people. It still is. Native is simple, plus even at full price, it's a pretty generous license as far as updates goes. It's basically a license that will never expire and give you free access to updates as long as Line 6 continues to make them. One thing is that right now, Line 6 is having a 30% off sale, so even without the discount, you can get Native for $280.

Legacy delays are very quiet and the feedback range is not linear
phil_m replied to DrRighteous's topic in Helix
I never had the Echo Pro, but that Benson model has always behaved like that, as far as I know. That's how it was on the M Series, at least. You have to have the Feedback up pretty high for it to start churning out repeats.
